is it really worth the 500-600+ points? it seems amazing on paper but is it good in actual battle? just want to get some opinions before i decide to buy it or not. here is the datasheet for a quick refrence. http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2440066_Imperial_Guard_Datasheet_-_Stormlord.pdf

Heavy 15 at BS 3 would yield maybe 7-8 hits. They're AP 3, but still, if a single volley from a superheavy tank won't demolish a single squad of Marines, it's not worth it.

However there is a rule that if it doesn't move it can fire it's main cannon twice. Also, don't forget the excellent sponson weapons and transport capacity. I personally would take a traditional baneblade mainly because it looks better, and I get to use the pizza template.
Then again, having a gun which can fire 30 strength 6 AP 3 shots is quite good fun.

Up to you, really! Do you want to mow down infantry and light vehicles with a huge gatling cannon, or with a great big shell cannon?

Also, transported troops can shoot brilliantly without getting shot up because it's open-topped. That probably justifies the extra points!

This is Daemonic Cheese:

3000 Pts
2500 Pts
1000 Pts (And growing)

I'd put a quote here, but XKCD would have a better one.

This is true, put some dudez in it and they can shoot. And it CAN fire that gun twice if it doesn't move.

But even so I think I'd prefer the slew of templates used by the Baneblade...

It depends really on your style of play: If you need to lay down ferocious firepower which scares the gak out of your opponent, then take a Baneblade or Shadowsword. However, if you need to transport about 4 squads of Guardsmen all at once in solid armour, while laying down swathes of anti-infantry fire, then go for the Stormlord.

I have used it before and really liked it. Great anti infantry tank.

Mine however was orked up and was in my ork army. I would put ether shoota boys or lootas in it. That thing shooting plus all the guys in back shooting...it was pretty mean to say the least. Load it up with some heavy weapons and go to town.

Can't you see we have been abandoned? Forget matters of duty and honor to the emperor this is now a matter of pride.

Meh, I bought one as I already have an Armorcast Shadowsword and Baneblade/Shadowsword combo. Didn't need an extra Shadowsword. Bought 2 Baneblades that I made into a Stormhammer. Mainly I bought the Stormlord for coolness. I think it looks great and is pretty nasty. As others have pointed out, it can fire up to 30 str6ap3 shots which will just melt marines or anything else really out there. Besides, it can carry 40 people, 20 of which can fire from the platform. Put a few heavy weapon squads in there and do some damage!

It's probably my favourite superheavy tank. Would it be a problem if I convert it to Chaos? I mean, rules, etc.

Shouldn't be a problem, after all Chaos does steal stuff off the Imperium anyway, just claim its crew became corrupted and now worship Chaos. It's what I do with my Black Legion Stormlord

@OP I've been using a Stormlord in Apocalypse games pretty much since it was released. As previous posters have mentioned it isn't as out and out destructive as other superheavy tanks. However this can lead, in some cases, to it not being viewed as a major threat and largely ignored by enemy anti tank units. My opponents tend to aim towards the Monoliths and Baneblade fielded by my team as they view them as a bigger problem due to more template weapons being thrown about by those models.
This means I can often take out a few squads a game with decent rolling and firing the main gun twice.

If you really want to try a fun tactic, use the flank march asset to bring the Stormlord (packed with lots of troops) on behind enemy lines. Preferably aimed at a 'weakly' (if possible) held objective. This can throw the enemy plans into complete disarray if timed well

Its a shame power armoured passengers no-longer remove the open topped rule or I'd have 4 full units of Marines on board one, Sadly can't justify the expense as apoc seems to have died out in sunny Suffolk

Heavy weapons teams, lots of autocannons and stuff. Maybe if your facing a truly unstoppable hoard then a master of the ordnance (this is apocalypse people).

Although i see a baneblade stopping a horde long before a storm lord does, storm lords are cool

So it seems the general concensus here is, "Although the Baneblade's templates are more useful against horde-type armies, the Stormlord's 30 S6AP3 shots can shred MEqs with impunity."

There you go.

does a HWT count as two people shooting?

AFAIK, yes. The codex states that the HW team counts as 2 models for transport purposes, which to me suggests that when the team shoots from a firepoint, it counts as 2 models firing from the firepoint.

No, it's counted as one person shooting, but has two wounds to represent the two crewmen on the gun.

I believe for transport purposes it counts as two models, but shooting, no, just one person.

I like the stormlord for its troop capacity but the doomhammer is my favorite a Str10 AP1 carries 25 troops is good for me to carrie 2 vet squads and my CCS leaving my chimera to carrie a PBS if I go with the doomhammer

Yeah I use a custom Stormlord at 700 points made for my Battle Sisters so the Mega-bolter has BS4 amongst other things. I have one squad of 20 hiding in the back. 36 bolter shots with Divine Guidance can be truly awesome. I've killed Mephiston, a Talos, and few other nasties this way with them this way.

Or, you could get the Shadow sword/Storm Lord Plastic kit from GW. It has the guns for just about everything except the Baneblade.

Ok the thing has 60" range on its main guns, if you dont move it you can fire 30shots AP3, it can carry either 20 or 30 troops (to lazy to look at the sheet) I own one of these things and i found that it tears apart infantry like a chainsaw to warm butter.
edit. wait isnt their ome cheesy thing that the IG can do called Ace crews? cause ive seen somethin on em before and there was one that uped BS to 4 mind you this was a few years ago id seen this, might be in an older imperial armoure book, or a white dwarf mag, but i do know i ahve definatly seen somthin on em, it just kinda makes it a command tank with a +1 to a stat of your choice (thus the ace crew nanme comes in, one was an ace gunnery crew i think)
