This brought tears to my eyes. . . how people can be capable of such senseless cruelty is beyond me. This is just murder; there's no other word for it. This is just so gut-wrenchingly wrong. makes me sick.
Yeah. Having whale guts spewed out on the ground made me violently sick. I threw up a little after looking at the photo for .2 seconds. That is not something that should be shown. Honestly, there are 10 year olds on this forum. Take it down. NOW.

I'm 14. I REALLY don't think that stuff like that is acceptable in this forum. In fact, in the FORUM RULES, it states that, "Graphic or otherwise inappropriate images (and even links to such images) will be removed on sight." Sorry bub, game's over.

Well it doesn't look like a mod has locked it yet, so the game's not over. bub. I'd hate to have this thread locked and lose a valuable opportunity to discuss this because of your whining.
I agree, it is a very valid topic to dicuss, and I would love to discuss it. I would love it even more is there weren't whale intestines spewing everywhere. I believe that Pilot whales, and all whales, are beautiful and sacred creatures. That said, I'm not about to go on whale wars and go egg whaling ships. I just disagree on the whole concept of whaling.

It ain't murder if it ain't human, bub.
But anyway, speaking as someone who, on occasion, kills and butchers their food, doesn't really bother me.
We kill way more people than we do whales. If we can't agree on the not-killing-people thing, why does anyone think that we'll be able to agree on the not-killing-whales thing?

That is merely semantics and has nowt to do with the ethical issues
Secondly, the amount of humans killed still doesn't justify these actions
Good for you that you kill and butcher your food.
Manly stuff

Nature can't keep up with demand. Why should an animal be forced into extinction because the evolutionary goal posts have been moved.

First, saying that murder is the only word to describe something when murder doesn't describe it in the slightest is vaguely silly.
Second, I'm not saying that it does, I'm saying that it's demonstrative of the apathy with which many people view the death of other living beings and that if we can't solve the first problem we almost certainly can't solve the second.

I was talking more along the lines of fish, rabbits, kangaroo, pigs, and various other animals, but I guess your methods are good too? I should have been more specific, the photos didn't really bother me. The concept sort of kind of does in the abstract, but I don't really care about the plight of whales.

@warboss i am aware that murder is only humans, but it seemed applicable here. The problems i have with this are: the gruesome and inhumane way the whales were killed, the fact that pilot whales are protected, and the number of whales that were killed. and the fact that they made no attempt to spare pregnant females is sickening.

You really threw up a little when you saw those pictures?
I am not especially concerned with killing animals, but I do think it's beyond ridiculous to drive them to extinction. There are numerous species, particularly in the seas, that are being threatened by reckeless harvesting, and it's unfortunate that we lack the foresight to stop.
That quite honestly wasnt the graphic. That is just how you see alot of things killed. Like cows. and if you even say they kill cows humanly quite kidding yourself.

First, they killed them in the quickest fashion I can think of; severing the spinal cord. What would be a more humane way to do it?
Why should the fact that they're protected make me more inclined to be sickened by their being killed? I'm not seeing the connection.
I'm not at all certain that they would have been able to tell that they were pregnant, but okay.
Swede Peter, a member of activist group Sea Shepherd, said he counted 236 dead whales before he was recognised by a local and made his escape.
No one noticed this? MADE HIS ESCAPE... Freaking Indiana Jones of the waves, huh.
Pilot whales are NOT an endangered species. If anyone can provide information disputing that, I will gladly say that I do not support the activity presented in this article. Not to say I care either way at this point, with the lists I have available. It is favoritism, no one is complaining about the mass destruction of bugs who are cruelly being swatted where they stand. Shock and horror. Anything with big round eyes, no matter how completely alien they actually are to humans, will strike an anthropomorphic chord with many people.

If they're killing the whales for food, what's the big deal? No different than a McDonalds slaughterhouse. As for the babies, are YOU going to be able to tell if a freaking whale is pregnant?

Attempts by Company Commanders to call down close-ranged artillery fire can result in disastrous casualties amongst the Imperial Guard. Whilst the loss of life is regrettable, the waste of ammunition is INTOLERABLE!
So the main point of contention is that peoples eyes are offended, after clicking a link from a topic that rather explicitly states... that your eyes are likely to see brutal slaughter.
What is the most humane way to kill them? Do you have a suggestion that is actually better than severing the spine? It is one of the most common ways to kill most animals. Snapping a chickens neck? It the first step in cooking poultry from scratch, you snap their neck, severing the spine.
Please tell me how I can be able to snap a whales neck with my bare hands. PLEASE. It would be so freaking awesome to be able to.

As far as marine mammals go there one of the most successful
Pilot whale population numbers are unknown, however they are not considered endangered. There are an estimated 1 million long-finned pilot whales and approximately 200,000 short-finned pilot whales worldwide. Pilot whales have been hunted for their meat, bone, oil, and for fertilizer, a practice which continues in some areas. Because they easily adapt to captivity, pilot whales are also exhibited in many aquariums and zoos.

They're was whale meat at the supermarket this am right next to the Salmon. I don't eat whale. I'm not down with killing cool animals for food. Only lame animals like pigs, cows and chickens end up on the plates at my house. That and all kinds of seafood that isn't a mammal.
I always get a laugh out of the tourists who come to the Seaworld to see the whales and then go and buy the 'Whale Bento'.

You never see an animal and wonder what it tastes like?
Every bloody day.
And am I the only one who had to choke down a laugh at the fact they all have belly doors?
Honestly though, their not endangered, so I couldn't give a crap really.
Also, person who said pig's aren't cool. Pig's are bloody awesome, I'm getting one as a pet when I get a bigger garden. (and I will still eat his family harhar)
I'm a lot more offended when I see scorpions killed come to think of it.

Please tell me you dont eat factory beef then. becuase the way we treat cows is bad.
I would rather have my food killed inhumanly then treated like this WHILE THEY ARE alive.
