hey dakkites, first thread here, always wanted a swarmlord for my nid army so i scrounged around in my bitz box and old models box and found a witch king on a fell beast model along with carnifex and hive tyrand bits. so i made this.

Long necked tyranids don't really do it for me, makes them look far too vulnerable. Decent modeling though, paint could use a little work in the red areas, looks like it has no depth to it.

Nothing currently, got out of the hobby, maybe getting back in?

I can see what you were going for and I'll give you points for trying, but that's just not going to work. It looks way too silly. If you look at the Trygon you'll realize that while serpentine, the main torso and head are at the top. Putting the torso in the middle really disrupts the flow of the model, and the tiny head is just goofy.

i agree with the above in that the neck simply looks out of place on the model. i think the nid would look a whole lot better with the head directly attached to where you stopped painting the neck red.

You may be able to make it work if you had some sort of plating extending back from the head to protect the obvious weak point of the neck. Look at the 4th edition Hive Tyrant for a reference, though I'd probably do it a bit differently.

Agreed, the neck will look much better if armoured to match the torso and head.

my snow basing isn't anything special (click on my gallery link under my avatar and go to my armies folder) but i can tell you what i did on my terminators.

i used snow flock from the local hobby store (michael's in the US... it's in the modelling/railroad section) and glued it on with undiluted elmers. fairly simple. the only pitfal i encountered (it was my first time using it) was that i just sprinkled the flock onto the elmers the first time and it didn't stick at all (found out the next evening when i came downstairs to take a peek at the last night's handiwork). when you apply this kind of light snow flock to undiluted elmers, you apparently have to press it down with your finger after laying down a heavy layer; then, apply another layer and press down again and leave it overnight. whatever is extra will just fall off when you shake the model the next day.

finally, spray with a dull coat to seal it in (once you're done with the model's painting also, of course). i didn't seal yet as i plan to highlight my terminators at some point and i still get snow flock dusting my foam in the carrying case. the naked bases i used for the bikes and speeders did get sealed and they don't leak yet still look just as fluffy. hope that helps some.

I think you need a thick Devlan Mud wash over the whole thing!

Ok got some good advice.

1- I think you should dry brush the ends of the red parts with blazing orange

2- Lightly dry brush maybe a light blue over the blue and than put a wash of black. (its shiny)

3- Lightly dry brush a bone colour over the top half of the claws and than put the mud wash over it so it looks like its like dirty or something.

Um, and no offensive but i think you need to put another colour in the last picture here.

Also if there are like small lines or creases that you can see, I think you should paint that either black or a dark purple.

Other than that, There BRILLIANT

sounds like a plan, unfortunately there will be little progress over the next few days. but could you please elaborate on what you mean by "put another colour in the last picture". i'm just not sure what it means. cheers

Um, well add another colour, I'm sorry but I dont know how else to put it, maybe add a light green as a highlight or something like that, if you still dont get what i mean, say so please
