Anyone ever take the time to paint or model little inside jokes?

My dreadnought's terminator honor has the Black Label Society slogan SDMF written on it, but it's a bit hard to read. On my Land Raider, I took the time to paint the interior. The engine I painted with Ford engine block blue and put the silver Ford emblem on the block.

Anyone else ever do this for fun?

I haven't, as such, as I've barely done any Painting, but I do like the idea of that 'Personal Touch', be it an Icon, or a Reference, or whatever. I might actually use a few, when I get round to Painting properly!

A nice idea!

Sound good, but why the loyalty to Ford? Chevrolet make better engines; you should have LSX Bikers.

My Techmarine is called "brother Vidicon of Cathode" as an homage to Christopher Stasheff's "Wizard" books and various other models get references from other things, but I don't use contemporary names on things.

Apart from the bikes my Marines ride. Which are not Vincents, but NoTrons (which is a reference to Judge Dredd).

A friend of mine asked me to make some GK book and sword decals for his landraider (neither of us is good with the freehand, but I'm fairly proficient with photoshop and a printer).

So I threw together the basic insignias, and felt the blank book looked empty. So I added some holy text. It's nearly impossible to read at that scale, but if you break out a magnifier and really try you'll see it says something along the lines of:

And he said "I am the saivor of humanity and by my hand I will lift you up," and they were as eagles in flight, and they did slay the daemonic enemies of man. Then he did say "I am the one true emperor of mankind, and like a dispensor of PEZ will I tilt back my head and spew forth fruity goodness!" And the emperor did throw back his head and his servants did feast upon his sweet neck-candy.

It went on to talk about the brides of the emperor being told to get back in the holy kitchen, and then covered how the real reason that the emperor didn't get along with daemons was he'd been skipping out on poker night because one of them owed him money.

Something I've yet to act upon, but plan too on my next batch of decals came from a short discussion with my father after he came across some assault maines:

Him: They have chainsaw swords...
Me: Yeah.
Him: Because their jetpacks run on wood...
Me: ....yes... because they run on wood...

So now I think I have to put a very small decal on at least one pack that says something like "Chipped pine only"

Closest thing I've done is to name my Nurgle Daemon Prince Captain Tripps. If I ever make a Grey Knight or something, I'll probably try to paint the Pulp Fiction version of Ezekiel 25:17 on the book icons or scrolls.

I have attached the chainswords directly to the wrists of some of my CSM, although that doesn't really count as an Evil Dead 2 reference, It's close.

my friend that got me into 40K was an Eldar fanatic so my Whirlwind- the first 40K tank kit i built has a big red moon on the front and the slogan "Just like Eldanesh- it flies - it dies" in red! I think its great to do these little extras- I painted a Ju88 with black and grey camo once and the stripes spelled out my name on the wings- that was kinda cool to me.

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.

Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
I think we should roll some dice, to see if we should roll some dice, To decide if all this dice rolling is good for the game.

That is just awesome and the conversation with your dad...... just priceless. I have to do something like that with all the orks I've collected on my wife's behalf. Even better I have a Mk1 Land Raider incoming form the UK I purchased. I totally have to sneak something on it that isn't obvious at first.

I stick such things all over my vehicles since my chapter is a bunch of hooligans. Somes things on one of my dreadnoughts include, on the fist, with an arrow pointing towards the fist: "Orks go here.", on it's leg, a downward arrow, on it's other leg, 'lol', on it's back, "Merci", and "XD", on it's front, , and on it's left shoulder, golden flames and the canadian flag. Everytime they move I picture them in my head bending down to pick up their rock, hauling it along with them as they run, setting it down, saying "whew that is heavy!", and then they can start shooting at something.

In a necromunda campaign I had a heavy armed with a heavy stubber and a lasgun (205 credits worth, you start with 1000) fall of a 4th story ledge and die (in necromunda to actually die you 1st need to get an unsaved wound then immediately roll a d6 as well as a d6 every turn from then on. on a 6 he is seriously injured and removed from play. After the game everyone who was seriously injured rolls on the seriously injury table and if you get a 1 he is dead. All in all its hard to actually die.)
After he died I did this:

I wish I had pictures of some of mine.
I have a ork pointing and raising his ax commanding the Battlewagon, its in reference to "drive me closer, I want to hit it with my sword."
I paint all my vehicles in true rat rod fasion. This was all started because the ork trukk is most definatly a rat rod. (example of a rat rod)
All my vehicles are painted to look Extremely rusted, except the engine is mithril silver so it looks chromed.
Oh, also, ork vehicles and weapons like to have a pair of two wires some where. It really is interesting how often its exactly 2 wires. I of course always have to paint these wires red and blue. In reference of course to the classic movie law of always having a red wire and a blue wire, hero is always told to cut the red wire, and with one second left cuts the blue.

In my whole army of guys with black boots, one guy has a one of his boots red.
