I saw a person come into my FLGS with old models of Warhammer figures. The thing is they were white and resin. Before I jump to any conclusions I was curious if GW ever did and resin kits or white plastic of any sort.

No, GW has never done resin kits of Warhammer figures.
Anything you see in resin that isn't readily available on http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer is 99.99998% chance of being a fake.

anyone who uses pirated models deserves to get busted if they are dumb enough to prance around with them unprimed.
My forgeries are never even photographed without primer!!

That's definitely true. He seems sure it's resin though.
If he had pictures of the models in question, it'd help quite a bit. If they look like recasts of models only available in metal...that kinda puts a dent in that theory.

pure white= resin. I could show you but the pics would get me in some trouble. I may be able to find a base laying around that I made.

Even if he had resin knockoffs, its not like GW has a squad of secret police that execute people for making copies.
A model is a model..
There are lots of different possibilities why a person might have a resin copy and not all unethical. None of them really impact anyones ability to play the game

clearly you are decieved. GW is actually short for Gestapo Wardens. they simply relocated to Nottingham and began to produce plastic men.
More on topic: many GW originals were in White plastic. there was also blue, cream, and grey colored plastics.
you also might check out if his models match any FW products.
Also, most commercialy avaliable resin casting kits give you a yellow colored matierial.
Pics would be helpful.

I'd love to find resin casts of chaos dwarfs so I could finish my army. Since GW doesn't make them anymore, they're hard to find and expensive when I do on e-bay.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

Last I checked, you can make copies of your own models as long as you do not profit from it. Just like when I make a back-up copy of a DVD - it is not copyright infringement unless I sell it to a bunch of people.
However, if I keep it and use it for myself, that is not against the law or in any way breaking the law. Same goes for models. If the guy put time, money, and effort into casting his own models - which may be OOP and impossible to get now - don't hate.
Of course, if he tried to sell them, that would be a whole different story, but I didn't see where you mentioned he had tried to do so.

Last you checked wrong. Movies iirc have exactly 2 copies per owner: 1 physical and 1 digital. most dvd's are already selling with digital copies included.
Recasting of ANY FRIKKING THING that you didn't sculpt yourself is a copyright violation unless you have EXPRESS WRITTEN consent from the copyright holder.
There have been endless debates on this and if you like I can find precedence from an IP infringement lawyer from the warhammer-empire.com forum. Automatically Appended Next Post: keep in mind that doesn't mean that I do or do not condone the recasting of models. may the 6th edition empire soldiers live forever on my desk and on the game table at public venues after being primed!!!

I have scoured the internet and found nowhere that says I cannot create copies for my own personal use. If I sell them, then I am in trouble, but otherwise, it is no different than having a back-up MP3 of your favorite CD.
The DVD example was bad, because I can't substantiate it. However, plenty of legal precedents to say that it is perfectly acceptable to cast models for personal use.
If you want to go ahead and cite legal precedence, I would appreciate it.

all GW has to do is prove they lost business as a result of your castings. this would be easy to prove, they lost YOUR business as instead of buying 3 boxs of Space marines you bought 1 and cast it 2 times, effectivly cheating them out of $70 worth of matierial.
Will GW ever bring you to court for casting models? probably not. would they be able to prove that a particular model was cast? not likely unless said model/s were unprimed(in which case you are soooo stupid and deserve to get brought to court) OR were a model that only comes in metal.
they won't go after you because you arn't worth it. now if you were selling said casts then yes they would bring you to court.
Now i happen to have some SMs whose legs are not entirely GW product, but you would be hard pressed to find them( IDK which ones they are anymore) since they are painted and among the throng of 200 Marines that are GW made. when GW sends you enough bits to make an additional 2 dozen marines minus the legs they are begging for trouble.

Lol you guys are way funny, I have made aluminum casts of figures in the past (a skill I learned in high school metal shop). I made my own Robotech figures as they were very hard to get at the time. I dont see any problem with using them as long as your not making a profit on them in bulk.

For the record I never said I was against it, I'm just against people telling new casters that it's legal. They deserve to know the risk they are taking.

I really wouldn't bother finding out, personally. If someone is casting models, they'll probably be caught out eventually... but I wouldn't feel it was my place to go and "enforce the rules" or "tell on them" at all... just like if someone is making copies of music for their mp3 player, I'm not going to go all DRM on them . Most of us are probably guilty of that at some point!
But since I want to support my local store, and the hobby in general, and use my army for official events, I'm going to buy my stuff new.
