I've been wondering this for a while now why didn't the chaos gods take Horus's soul and resurrect him?

Was it that Horus was not completly tainted by chaos?

Or the Chaos Gods are capricious entities that have a tendency to devour the souls of their followers as soon as raise them as immortal demi-gods (and occasionally devour immortal demi-gods...).

The sink.

Horus totally failed. He didn't deserve to be resurrected.

Now Kharn on the other hand, he's a winner! Always will be.

Well Horus had almost overthrown the Imperium and nearly killed the Emperor.

I'd say hes pretty much the best thing chaos actually did.

Didn't the Emperor obliterate his soul, so the Chaos gods had nothing to work with?

I haven't read any infomation on Horus's soul being destroyed by the Emperor.

If he was it could explain why Chaos Gods didn't resurrect him.

Driving all of the near-infinite reserves of compassion from his mind for the sake of the humanity he had served and loved all the years of his long life, the Emperor destroyed Horus utterly, his essence burned from existence so that the Ruinous Powers could not resurrect Horus as a Daemon Prince through their claim on his soul.

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Horus#The_Betrayal
The sacrifice of the Custodian bought the Emperor time to deliver a finishing blow to Horus. With iron resolve, he gathered his full strength and delivered a massive psychic blow that killed Horus almost instantly and obliterated his very soul. In his final moments, the powers of Chaos were driven from him and the Emperor sensed his favored son's return to sanity for a fraction of a second before he finally died.

Public wikis, and especially Lexicanum, are terrible sources of information. Seriously, take any book, watch any show, listen to any music, and then read the wiki. The constant misinformation is endemic to the medium as stuff gets lost in translation. Better to just use them as portals to the original material (if it's cited...) rather than rely on what's essentially some random's opinion.

Not really. When Gwar can actually quote the passages where the background categorically states that the Emperor destroyed Horus' soul, then we might be talking. Difficulty level: 5th edition material.

More to my point, citing the sources used by a bunch of wikis doesn't invalidate my point that the wikis themselves are utter crap.

Wikis can be useful. They have offficial monitors on wiki so that people can't just post BS on wiki pages.

Some years ago I actually did get served when I made an argument in a class on David Hume's Treatise. Basically I hadn't read the text carefully enough and got the facts wrong. When challenged I quoted the page numbers of the pages I had misread. Hume was the guy's area of interest and he quoted me the relevant passages by memory, and then told me the page of the edition we were using so the entire class could check.

The "Emperor totally destroyed his soul" was in a few of the older background texts, but as far as 'recent' stuff...

Still, I'd say that older stuff stands true!

As, clearly, Horus hasn't popped back up yet!

To be fair, neither has the Emperor.

Man, that last part is kinda sad. As Horus is being utterly destroyed, he looks back at his father in a completely lucid and loving state. Like you having to shoot your most beloved pet because of Rabies ala Old Yeller.

Why would he?

He had a bit of a moment of Clarity after the Dropsite Massacre too, IIRC.

Maybe that's why the Chaos Gods let him be extinguished. He wasn't one hundred percent committed. His boy Abaddon though...

I think the More appropriate question is: Why has Abaddon the Failure not been given the gift of Spawndom?

Horus only failed once.

But yeah. Horus' Soul was destroyed.

This.

Horus managed to very nearly kill the Empra and GOT TO TERRA, THE MOST GUARDED PLACE IN THE IMPERIUM and actually did massive damage. All this is no more than a few years.

10,000 years and 13 tries and Abbadon hasn't even been able to get out the damn EoT.

Abbadon is favoured by all four of the Dark Powers. He's not ascending to Daemonhood or descending into Spawndom without all four agreeing on it. Frankly he seems to have a good thing going. Why go and ruin it like Horus did?
