Subject: BA Jump List - Speculative

This is a list with a (probably) ugly points total. I have not done the math, and therefore, the list is just a theory. Please treat it as such.
HQ
The Sanguinor
Librarian with Jump Pack, Blood Lance, and Shield of Sanguinius
Elites
3 X Sanguinary Priests with Jump Packs
Troops
3 X 10 Man Assault Squads with 2 x Meltaguns and 1 x Power fist each
Fast Attack
2 X 5 Man Vanguard Veteran Squads with Lightning Claws
The plan is to advance the sanguinor with the priests, the Libby, and the assault squads in a Killy bubble of doom, with the librarian using the shield for cover, and the extra attacks plus furious charge plus fnp making the assault squads very Killy indeed. The meltas and the blood lance pop any tanks in the way. Meanwhile, the vets likely come in on turn two, charge, and tie up the enemy until the killiness gets there.
Thanks in advance.

you wouldnt need any anti armour with your 6 meltas
and if you load them with heavy bolters, you'd have a hard time getting their points back
use a baal to deal with hordes, or drop pod something with flamers,
only problem you will have is dealing with hordes or gunlines, you got all the anti armour you need

I play a list a lot like this, except I use Mephiston instead of the Sanguinor.
Instead of the vet squads I use 3 rifleman dreads. There is already a lot of jumping assault going on, and three rifleman dreads can kill a lot of transports, skimmers, MCs etc.
I think the main problem with the Vanguard is that they could be dropping in on a meched up army since all your AT is short range.

Walking dreads are a liability for this type of list. You don't want to support them with jump units. Static units and jump infantry dont mix well nor should they.

Rifleman dreads are not static, they can move and shoot. They are great for support, they have a 48" range and can take out anything from infantry to AV12. Why wouldn't a fast assault unit need some type of heavy shooting support?

I meant static as when compared to jump infantry. The riflemen can move and shoot so that does help a bit. Still I see them getting left behind and unsupported by the rest of the army.

Howabout furioso flying librarians? It would give the list more heavy hitting power, although it would give the enemy lascannons something to shoot at.
And, I know there are some who are fans of scout bikers. What are some opinions on them as support for this list?

IMO you're lacking antitank, dont worry about hordes, 120 s5 attacks on the charge from those 30ASM will tear them up.

Storm Raven for AT? It has a vicious amount of guns, won't get left behind, and you can put combat squads of jump troops in it if you need to, like if you are faced with millions of plasma cannons.

If I had the cash to convert, sure, but for now I am sticking to run of the mill GW models. With that in mind, see previous question.
Any opinions on the possibility of a fabulous flying furioso?

Sorry, since the new pic leaked I just act like its already real...
I'd have to say Multi-melta speeders, they are just too easy to use, they can deepstrike, only need 12" to get the melta bonus, are super cheap and super fast.
Running three is a great way to go-180 points. Plus you can add an extra multi-melta to each one if you want...

Maybe. I'll think about it - I'd prefer to have no AV.
Anyone have anything to say about the flying furioso librarian option?

The psyker dread just seems like a liability in a jump heavy army. The lack of extra armor just compounds it further. For those points you can basically take a Stormraven which is a lot better choice.

Which is not a model. And has AV twelve and can't get into close combat?
But anyway, is it a liability because it presents lascannons with something to shoot at? Or something else?
Thanks.

You want to run a single Furioso in a JP list?
I think it'll die awfully fast, due to enemy anti-armor weaponry having nothing else to concern themselves with.

I take it this is for a 2k pt army?
I wouldn't run claws on all your vets. I'd run 3 squads of 5 with just a powerfist sgt. They are meant to tie up heavy shooting squads and take out lrg blast tanks so the rest of your army comes in safely. Keep em cheap. They get their pts back by not losing your entire army when they DS. You still get 4 attacks on the charge and FNP/furious charge when a priest is near. They'll do their dmg w/o the claws for alot less pts. Dropping the claws gets you a 3rd squad.
Why shield on Librarian? I prefer sword instead for MCs, land raiders, nob ownage, HQ instant death, etc. 5+ cover doesn't do much...You're still going to lose alot of models if you are worried about lrg blasts w/o an armor save.
How about a 5 man scout squad w/ sniper rifles and camo cloaks to hold an objective so your marines can do the face bashing with your spare points?

I've run three lib furiosos w/shield and wings + mephiston in my 1750 "Winged Nightmare" BA list. They work OK, I personally used them covering razorbacks, but they should work fine a jump army too, as they can give the assault squads cover in the open, and give themselves cover with shield (its the new kan wall!!)

So, what does one do on turn one with your assault marines staring down the barrel of a battlecannon? Take the heat? Or wait until the vanguard vets take it out turn two?

Why would you deploy anything? All your marines should be deep striking. You have a good shot at your entire army coming in turn 2 with 2 dice to get a 4+

"Smart player won't fall for it twice"
Too true. But with BA jumpers, you dont have to worry about them being smart. Your precise (and reliable) deepstrikers mean you can put the hurt on people turn 2, and weather one turn of retaliation.
Critique on list: The Sanguninor is not a good idea. He is an -awesome- character assassin, but he is very susceptible to small arms torrenting, and people will do that to him. He's also massively expensive, theres nothing in the game that the sanguinor can do that a full squad of assault marines with kit cannot do. And they have more bodies and more attacks to do it with. Other than that, its just the ratios, and particularly the V-Vets kitout that i disagree with.
I'd be more inclined to run something like this.
Libby, Blood Lance, Shield, Jump Pack
Honor Guard, Jump packs, 3 x melta guns, 3 x flamers, 1 x stormshield - yes, you can do this. The list entry says replace either chainsword or bolt pistol with one of the following. Swiss army honor guard of awesome.
2 x Sang priests, jump packs, (you get the third aura from the honor guard squad)
3 x ASM, 2 x Melta Guns, P/fist Serg with infernus pistol - allows you to split them into viable combat squads, with double melta in one, and fist/pistol in the other.
2 x Vanguard Vets - here is your biggest misconception. V-Vets arent designed to rape your opponent, they are designed to be able to tie up the stuff you dont want to deal with, ie long fangs, broadsides, plasma XV8's, devestators, heavy weapons platoons, etc etc etc. Stuff that will make nasty short work of your ASM, regardless of the FNP bubbles and Shield of Sanguinius you have going for you. What I kit my V-Vets out with is as follows. 2-3 stormshields ( points allowing) 1 x P-fist, 1 x Glaive Encarmine (on the sergeant, he gets a stormshield). This is just the right amount of power weapons, to be able to assault in your turn, and finish your opponent in THEIR turn (hopefully). The stormshields mean you can weather the return CC attacks if thier happens to be powerfists, and 1 Fist and 1 Glaive is enough to reduce most power armoured heavy support to smoking ruins anyways. By utilising them to stymie your opponents shooting, you allow your wonderful Str5/init 5 marine blobs of DEATH to smash infantry and tanks without benefit of enemy fire support.
Hope this helps.

Mate runs a jump pack list, DoA, jump pack, like this. Has double Librarians same units as you but Devastators with missile launchers - you need long range anti tank to open up armour so you can assault, or lay down blasts on hordes to thin them out - you don't need Vanguard in this army, they're best deep striking in, as a whole together army.

I must say I have recently dropped my rifleman dreads for two squads of devs, and they have become quite effective. I understand some deem them unable to be supported with a JP army, but if deployed correctly, they can usually get their points back within the few first turns.
They are generally the only thing I have on the table turn 1 if cover is good enough. Generally the 8 ML's ace at-least 2 armor in the first salvo, enough to keep my ASM busy and happy.
