Hi,
me and my buddy were arguing about Nightbringer and his etheric tempest... So let me simplify question... Does tempest work on deffkopta with buzzsaw? It has str3, but is that unmodified? Or does it have str 6 for purpose of etheric tempest?

Mesopotamia. The Kingdom Where we Secretly Reign.

The Kopta's strength is 3 on its profile so the Tempest works.

The buzzsaw modifies the strength of the model.

Hey, Monster Rain, I'm the buddy who pondered that since PF work on the Monolith, they would work for Etheric Tempest.

Aren't both wordings of the codex(reprinted one) that models always use their unmodified strength, with the rather definite term "no matter what" added in the case of the 'Lith? It just didn't seem consistent to me.

The Powerfist doubles the strength of the attack directed at the monolith, true. I interpret that as being a modification which the Etheric Tempest specifically mentions.

His attack strength is 6, his unmodified (read: strength on his statline) is 3.

I was just thinking... It says that blown unit moves as if they were falling back... Does that mean you can make him run off the table?!

Against the Monolith, it says unaugmented strength of the weapon. Weapon, not model. Etheric Tempest says "models with unmodified strength". Model, not weapon. See the difference?

I don't believe you can make them leave the table.

They aren't actually falling back.

Rules say they move directly away from the Nightbringer as if the unit was falling back, so I think you can get them off the table.

Totally cool
Though it would mean that nightbringer has to be near opponents table edge, which is kinda long process

I wish I could abuse this rule!!!!

I only EVER see it happening against tau though. Who else would hug their back lines against necrons? (Maybe Guard.)

well, perhaps you can do something else... Looks to me that you can surround your opponent and remove him from the table

Nope, because fall back moves when you move out of combat let you move through enemy or friendly models.

But if you can't move all models to be away from 1'', you can still pull it off

Isn't that Fantasy?

Trapped! on page 45 says models cause issues?

Editing again:
Sorry, Chinchilla for the confusion. I edited to show who my response was directed towards.
We were quoting the same thing, it seems.

You can always keep doing it and chase the enemy off the board, Non Marines have issues with rallying with an enemy nearby

And They Shall Know No Fear tends to let them rally regardless, i thought?

I could be wrong. I don't play marines, own a marine codex or have it come up in game very often, as the SW guy i play has a habit of rolling low. If i'm incorrect, i apologise

I think you are wrong... It allows them to regroup ONLY if they fail initiative roll-off.... But they still fall back and can be trapped:p

It allows them to regroup if under 50%. But, it does not remove the restriction about enemy units being too close.

It is totally legal to escort a group of retreating marines off the table.

Lots of marine players think they. They can regroup below half strength and they don't get wiped out from sweeping advances. The range to enemy still applies.

Chase a squad of marines off the table and watch the marine player rage....

Trapped! doesnt apply when you first fall back out of combat, as you can move through other models. otherwise it would be impossible for a lot of models to fall back from combat.

Yes, but if you surround your opponent, if he can't move enough to get over your units, he still is trapped, right?

Yes, but this doesnt apply to the fall back out of combat, only to further fall back moves starting with their next movement phases.
