Seriously though, look at these pictures. Pretty ho-hum, but check out the prosthetics on her shoulders underneath the 'revealing' gown. I think this says something like "No, actually you can't see what I have under here."

Who's GWAR? (maybe that answers your question).

You may remember them from the late night show where the band performed and then were devoured by a giant worm in the lat 80's early 90s. They also carried a qiant mace around. It was during the Bring out the fire breathing satan head era of rock/death metal.
And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.
Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole
OP brings up a good point. I don't think she's saying she's possessed though. I think GaGa is still feeding off the monster side of what was "The Fame." She first presented the bad and good sides of "The Fame" and is now making a point that was "Born This Way" and is in a way showing her darker side by having those things all over her body poking out.

Freddy Mercury? That dude could sing.

I don't think we need one. A year ago, I could have said "maybe Gaga one day" but I think she's pricing herself out of the outrageous celebrity market. Although it may have a good message (debatable: I think it's shaky ground to build policies -- so, let's say "although it may have good lyrics"), "Born this Way" is not a good song. As music, it's certainly no better than Ke$ha's mindnumbers. Frankly, that reflects poorly on both Gaga and her predecessor but, in Madonna's defense, she released "Express Yourself" twenty two years ago.
@Manchu: There are plenty of songs from the 90s with that sound, though I honestly hear Kelly's Walk Away in the chorus of BTW It's pop, it's dancy, it's gaga-esque. She says in the interview that the BTW album will be more eclectic and I saw that one coming right after the Fame Monster was released. The album is supposed to be very different from the single (which was hyped up to be an "anthem" anyway, which I believe it functions as). I believe the quote is something like "In The fame I was trying to seduce you, but now that you're in bed with me I can do whatever the hell I want."

The Fame era was her being the bright, sunshiny "we're plastic but we still have fun" Gaga, The Monster era was actually supposed to be her dark one, and I think BTW will be more of a "freak" tone, though we'll have to see how it pans out.

I really like Papparazi. It's probably my favorite Gaga song. I also liked Poker Face and Bad Romance, which seemed to transcend club music. She started to lose me on Alejandro and Telephone was garbage.
Amaya wrote:I'm a fan of Ace of Bass so I thought Alejandro was decent, but it was played to death. She should've released Speechless as a single.
Battles were waged whether Alejandro or Monster should've been the last single. I've got a Speechless vid from the Monsterball I went to last year. She tells an awesome story beforehand, though it's probably NSFW.

Oh wow like this sounds a lot like something else decades before:

Yeah, I had read she wanted it to be a pop, rock, heavy metal, disco, classical, country western, glam, punk, reggae, jazz, samba, operatic album (I might be exaggerating but we are talking about a lady who goes to awards shows in a plastic egg for feth' sake) and I just had to think "gee, that sounds like an excuse." Then I heard the song and was disappointed. You mention that "it's pop, it's dancy, it's gaga-esque" but I think you've got it backwards: pop isn't gaga-esque; Gaga is (just) pop. Increasingly banal pop. You don't have to have a brain to turn out good pop, much less a flashy wardrobe or an ideology. And having those things doesn't mean you turn out good pop -- that's why Madonna is producing now rather than releasing albums. That's why she doesn't get to be the "queen of pop" (sorry, she's just not on Michael Jackson's level) and why Gaga is getting further away from a coronation.
@Frazzled: That comparison has been done. It's closer to The Sign than Madge imo. Edit: Amaya has it
@Manchu: It's partially because she was already writing on it before the Fame Monster came out and the thing's supposed to have a ridiculous number of tracks. I'll have to see how it turns out to be able to develop a full opinion. I would argue that it is Gaga-esque and has that dab of "her" that I could pick out from the genericness. As an "anthem" I expected the song to be generic sounding, though many of the fans believe it didn't live up to the hype.
