After reading this....

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1334512/

...I began to wonder..is there absolutely no imagination left in the film industry?...

I realize that may be a bit of an over reach (sure there are "Original" films being released)...but it does seem that every other month a "re-make" of some film is being released (or at least being announced).

Now...I get the " Sell what sells" angle and I realize that " Nothing is really original.."...But FFS....it seems as if filmmakers are scrapping the bottom of the creative well.

So...why this trend?...

Especialy that one, that way! if you were lucky enough to see the first one i think you'll hate this one, imho.
it does seem as no original thought or ideas exhist for some reason. as for why: lazy or cheap buck maybe?
and the only thing bugs almost as much are all the Prequels.

Well Dad, I don't know. I thought it was bad when the horror industry died, then the 3-D stuff..

It's all why I only watch movies from 10-20+years ago (with the exception of Doomsday).

Oh ,I've seen the original "Arthur" a dozen times and really enjoy it...
How Russel Brand is supposed to "replace" Dudley Moore is beyond me.

Anyway, it's Katy Perry's hubby, so she probably bribed his ass into this hampster-dropping of a movie.

A large portion of a movies promotion goes into getting people interested in the movie and getting a synopsis of it out. With a re-make you have a lot of that done already.

As much as I think re-makes are naff I'll probably see this. Russel Brand is a funny mofo.

England however still seems to be going strong in the comedy department other than that, I agree FITZZ all these remakes are getting annoying eventually if this keeps up Hollywood is going to have to make more

classics or risk running out of remakes.

It might be part me being an old cynical and jaded ...but between remakes and comic book movies I begin to wonder if there is a screen writer anywhere with a "new" script...
...and if not...why??

Obviously at some point the film idustry had a smidge of creativity...you didn't see film makers in the 60's and 70's " remaking" Gone with the Wind...

To be honest though, a lot of movies back then were film adaptations of novels.

Brand seems to have created for himself image of bed hopping celeb than for having any real talent.

He is in the new film version of The Tempest, which looks like it may be good despite Brand's appearance in it.
In a relatively short space of time he has managed to get the lead role in this film

Have no idea what his acting experience or abilities are like.
As far as I knew he didn't have any. He may yet prove to be excellent at acting, but I fear it will just be what Brand is usually all about which is Russell Brand.

In some cases...granted,and in others they were a re-telling of stories that had already been told ( Magnifecent 7=Seven Samuri)....but lately it seems were getting remakes of movies based on novel written about things that have already been written about.

The only thing I know that he's good at, is putting his "brand" on hot girls and looking ridiculous while doing it.

Or worse remakes of a remake and remakes of recent films (Death at a Funeral).

I get what your saying rubiks...I myself enjoyed the remake of Dawn of the Dead...
...But my main point is..why bother with the remake?...I would have been perfectly content with the old 1978 version of the film...and been much more pleased with a "New story" with " New settings,characters,directions,etc..."...even if it was the same Genre...

Feth I would be happy if Hollywood started making more novel to movie adaptations more often than sequels, some of the best cinema was created that way (Lord of the Rings, James Bond, etc) sure it's not completely

original but sometimes it's nice to see someones interpretation on the big screen.

If that figure is correct it is appalling. Are you sure about that?

However it depends on the film. The remake of Psycho that re enacted the Hitchcock movie seemed pointless to me. It could be argued thatPeter Jackson's Dambusters film is based on a historical event, so is not technically a remake of the 1950's movie as such but a retelling. With modern special effects it should be worthwhile.

At least a novel to film adaptation requires some imagination...an ability to translate a character of the written page and bring him/her to "life"...
How much imagination does making a remake take..?

Yes sir, this is a shyte-you-not-fact either.

It all has to do with risk versus reward. Your script won't get green lit now a days unless it carries little to no risk, and brand recognition almost guarantees a return on the investment.
