You need to check out the Minature Market in South County. http://miniaturemarket.com/retail_info . Thursday night is 40k night and a bunch of guys show up for games. A good variety of ages and skill levels. The Fantasy Shop ( St. Charles) plays on Tuesdays and I think Heroic Adventures in Illinois does as well. Alll three shops hold monthly tournamnets just need to check thier websites or gamestlouis.com under GW events for local tournaments posted. MM is probably closest for you. I have been to games at all three shops and there are some good groups playing now. I play out of the fantasy shop. Maybe see you at a tournament soon!

Ogre's Games is on Kingshighway, not far south of I-64. The usual days for games are Thursday and Saturday, though other than myself and one or two other guys that show up there on occasion, everyone else is pretty shaky on the rules. I'm trying to help get everyone else up to speed, but gaming there has been kind of disorganized and I've not had time the last few weekend to devote toward it. I could probably get over there for a game on Friday after I get off from work, though it would have to be kind of late; probably about 6-7ish.
Other than that, I've played at both Fantasy Shop and Heroic Adventures as mentioned above. All three shops have a pretty good selection of terrain, though I find the atmosphere is not always as friendly at Heroic Adventures as it's been elsewhere. Maybe I've just rubbed them the wrong way, but they just don't seem quite as excited to talk to you as the guys at the other shops. I've never been to Minature Market, but it looks cool from the link above. You have to take the period off the link otherwise it won't work.

I know it's a drive, but there's also Heroic Adventures in Edwardsville, IL. I've also heard good things about Mini Mart in SoCo...I know several people that go every Thursday.
The only problem I found with Heroic Adventures is that most people play Warmachine now...

Miniature Market is TOPS for in-store gaming.
I don't get there as often as I'd like, but may 40K gaming is at a buddy's house & my RPG group meets at mine.
Plus, I'm in Festus, so it's not a quick little jaunt.
The staff at Mini Mkt is top notch, too. Great guys who ALWAYS have time for you, whether you're a paying customer or not!

I'll chime in with a positive for Miniature Market as well.
I didn't know about Ogre Games on Kingshighway, though, I may have to check it out.
The problem I have lately (besides a lack of time) is scheduling a game in advance. Usually on the pickup game nights, everyone is paired off by the time I can make it to the shop.
If anybody wants to schedule a game, hit me up.

Yea really. I'm right by the airport, and by the time I get out of work, get changed and fight traffic (either to Fantasy Shop or Miniature Market) it's closer to 6-7, and everybody else has already either paired off or is finishing up.
I can sometimes make it a little earlier, but it's bad enough that I just don't usually bother even showing up unless I already have something scheduled. It's too much of a hassle to fight traffic to get there by 6 only to stand around until 730-8, not play a game, and then go home.

I work in downtown, live in Festus and carpool with my wife. I'm usually getting home around 6:30, after we pick the rugrat up from daycare. I feel your pain.
Maybe some day I'll be able to make it to Mini Mkt for a game night. Sounds like my schedule would make me the perfect match for you.

Miniature Market is moving!!! and they said that they may not have tables at their new location... i didn't know about the other places though. I used to play at the Games Workshop location in the mills about 4 years ago, but stopped playing the game once I got into high school, but have recently been getting back into the game. I play with my brother and neighbor but am still a little hazy on some of the rules. But if someone is looking for a game, and is willing to put up with me i'd be more than happy to oblige. Also, I get off work at 5 PM so cant go earlier than that...

How recent is your information?
Last I spoke with someone at the store about it, it was still uncertain as to precisely what would happen.

I can confirm that. Steve is getting out of the brick and mortar business, and the "new location" is pretty much just a cash register at their warehouse so they can still get product.
On the bright side, another game store has been talking with Steve and his landlord about moving into that same storefront, so if that goes through there'll only be a month or two of downtime at that location, and I believe Steve was leaving all the tables and terrain for the new tenant.

Them and Game Nite at the South County mall, but it doesn't currently carry much in the way of GW product (mostly FoW and WM/H at the moment, along with most of the Spartan range). Of course, that might change, given the new lack of competition between the rivers.

So, where is this store front?
Also, this does not bode well for Game Nite, IMO. I think they'll flounder in that location if they don't have an internet retail presence to supplement their income.

The original plan was to do so, but I think Steve's now talking about selling off the ones currently on site. Of course, GN has another dozen or so tables of their own, so it shouldn't effect much, especially since Chris has been talking about making more.
Also, this does not bode well for Game Nite, IMO. I think they'll flounder in that location if they don't have an internet retail presence to supplement their income.
To be fair, MM didn't either. The retail side has been fiscally independent from their web store for a while. They're also supported by a hell of a lot more than just wargaming, with a good portion of their stock being board games.

The difference, though (re: MM floundering), is that, while the storefront operates independently from the online business, it's all truly one company. I mean, it has the same owner, same name, operates in conjunction with the online presence (you can pick internet orders up in the store, etc). For all intents and purposes, it really is one place, regardless how they do their books.
--Please, understand, NOTHING above is meant with negative connotations. I'm a fan.--
IMO, the storefront and warehouse should be moved to occupy the same space again. The storefront should be seen as a loss leader.
Cheaper real-estate should be used than the one the store is in. Minimal product could be on the shelves and there should be a computer terminal or 4 for customers to place orders, which are filled in the back. This way, customers can still peruse and impulse buy, but can place and fill larger orders, too. Real estate would be cheaper, as they'd be using the "warehouse" rates, instead of the pricier location their store is in now.
Having the storefront with game space available will keep customers dedicated to them.
My worry for Mini Mkt is that, if a local store opens with in-store gaming like Mini Mkt has now and steep discounts, locals will stop purchasing from Mini Mkt and support the place where they game. Especially now that FLGS's keep closing. "In store" gamers may just start panicking, and taking their $$ from Mini Mkt in favor of the local store.
What does that mean to Mini Mkt? Probably not a whole lot. Not financially. I'm certain that the local gaming crew is not what keeps them afloat. : ) Every extra dollar makes a difference, though. Yes?

That's exactly what they're doing, actually. From the guys I've talked to, the new "store" is pretty much a cash register tacked on to their ware house space. Of course, they don't seem to be planning to have any tables, which makes sense for Steve, since he's wanting to concentrate purely on web sales and breaking into the distributor market from what I've heard.

That's actually almost the opposite of what I meant, though. They're tacking a cash register up front so that they can still qualify as a retail location. It's not a genuine attempt to keep a retail location open (no insult intended).
What I'm saying is that, essentially, I think they should relocate the shop and warehouse to a place (even if it's the existing warehouse space) where they can have a FUNCTIONAL store (tables, etc.) up front and the warehouse out back, like they used to do at the current retail location.
I think it's a bummer to see them changing on the regulars, but... you know, the man's gotta do what he's gotta do to keep the figurative doors open. Right?

Last tournament at the MM will be a doubles tournament July 9 with the store closing July 23. There are quite a few signed up already so I would get signed up soon. For those losing a 40k night at MM there is Fantasy Shop in St. Charles. We start at 6:00 PM 2000Pts on Tuesday random drawing for opponents or schedule with a friend. If there is interest, I could ask around to see if we can push up the time a little later. The F-Shops hours changed about two years back so it is now open till midnight so you will be able to get a game in.

Anyone know if Game Nite is going to have a 40K night & tournaments?
Joe at MM said something about it but, to be honest, I was in a hurry (She Who Must Be Obeyed was waiting in the car), and I don't remember the specifics.
