Was listening to Thunder from Fenris the other day, and It got me wondering. Is Mark of the Wulfen a more humanish form and would the state Hagni was in, pure Wulfen (Werewulfen)?

Well, the mutation known as Mark of The Wulfen basically causes the Space Marine to transform into what we in the real world would call a werewolf. Not having heard Thunder from Fenris, I don't know whether this applies to this character.

The character in Thunder from Fenris has turned Wulfen...
The Mark of the Wulfen isn't a marine turning into the Wulfen but more along the lines of him going into a berzerker rage. If a marine loses control too much he becomes a Wulfen and changes completely into it with hair and claws and everything.

I was chatting to a GW staff member, and he mentioned something about the curse of the wulfen being reversible... i mean im not fully sure wether he meant the rage state, but it was a discussion on BADC vs SWW.

The whole full Wulfen thing usually takes a while to fully complete and there is a point that it can be reversed but past that point it is impossible to reverse...

Then would it be possible that when a Space Puppy goes into the Wulfen (werewolf) state he would still serve is squad and the space puppies loyally and NOT be killed by his allies? Because after the battle with the help of a wolf priest he would be brought back to his human form.

From everything I've read, there's no going back once the transformation is complete. You're done, except for trying to die in the most glorious way possible.

Wulfen are basically their version of Death Company, except with more hair.

No...
Once you go Wulfen you try to kill pretty much everything around you.
Any Wulfen in the Chapter are killed as soon as possible, there is a point at which you can recover but once you go past that point you are as good as dead.

I guess it would be to far off to say they dont go past that point, just embrace the wulfen inside of them for the heat of combat and go back into human form as soon as its done, so they dont risk becoming a full animal and killed by their comrades. :(

(I am asking this because I want to make a squad of wulfen terminators)

from what i gather the Mark of the Wulfen is like a Blood Angel succumbing to the Black Rage, they aren't completely gone but if they push it too far they can't come back.
I remeber the Wulfen rules from the EoT codex

the actual physical change isn't reversable.

the mental change can be halted and reversed. thats what the Wolf Priests are for. they have the stern mind to be able to resist the transformation and are able to help their brothers resist it too.

so a marine that turns into a wulfen physically can still be made sane again with the help of a wolf priest. thats the state the 13th company is in now. mostly wulfen(most completely sane, if a little wild)

Grey Templar. . .you are awesome.
So in theory an elite group of Wulfen Terminators* is possible, but they of course would be a chapter secret and only used in "dire" situations. These Wulfen would be shapechanged, but sane acting out their Wolf Lord's command.

*I say terminator's because I would model them on a terminator base, since they are bigger than your average marine, wearing pieces of their discarded terminator armor, and overall more ferocious and beefy.

Sounds like a cool idea.
Yes it is possible, but im not sure sane is the right word..... less crazy perhaps? And they would HAVE to be led by a Wolf Priest (IMO)

Sakrileg,

I don't know if you have read the Space Wolves Omnibus, but the Wulfen curse is talked about extensively in those six books. Especially the last one IIRC. Ragnar is transported to into the Warp and happens to find a remnant band of the 13th company. The majority of the Space Wolves he meets there have golden eyes and longer-than-normal canines. Even as Ragnar is stuck within the warp, his body begins to change and he almost falls to the Wulfen curse. Luckily, Ragnar was stranded in the warp with a Wolf Priest named Sigurd, who helped him resist the full transformation and madness. Ragnar did return to Fenris and he now has the yellowed eyes of Wulfen after his time with the 13th Company.

I also considered making an all Wulfen Wolf Guard squad, but unfortunately I believe you can only have one Wulfen per squad of Wolf Guard. At best you could make a Grey Hunters Squad (One with Mark of the Wulfen), have a Wulfen Wolf Guard detach and join the Grey Hunters and then have an Independent Character with Wulfen join that Squad. It was a real bummer for me to find out that you can only have so many Wulfen in your army. I think the most you can have is 16 (4 HQ, 6 Grey Hunters, 3 Thunderwolf riders and either 3 Wolf Guard or 3 Lone Wolves.

Awesome idea though!

I am currently reading the space wolves omnibus, school books have some how tricked me into reading them instead, something about studying xD.

Also I dont think I will be actually giving them Mark of the Wulfen as a game mechanic, they will be ran as normal Wolfguard that look like werewolves, errr Wulfen.

In Prospero Burns, all the wolves are described as having yellow eyes.

Going Wulfen is like becoming a berserker werewolf... they do change back after battles, though. It's like a recessive gene, and all SW have it. In some, its just more prominent. It comes from the cup they drink out of to become SW, and those who cannot contian the curse become Wulfen and are released into the wilds of Fenris. That's what the codex says, anyways.

So one could say it could be completely legit to have a squad of terminator wolfguard (that dont have the mechanic MotW) that look like werewolves.

They would have scraps of their armor on and wielding their power weapons and storm bolters.

I'll have to re-read the last SW omni because I didn't think that ALL of the Wulfen got a bolt shell through the brain. I thought some of them were cared for by the Wolf priests?

I could just be spewing excrement there, please correct me if I am...

They dont change back physically, they might revert mentally, if their will is strong enough.
You are right on where it comes from though (although the canis helix is just the catalyst for the transformation, its actually part of their geneseed and makes them more resistant to Chaos than usual)

Hmm... it does say in the 'dex that certain individuals have been known to transform into beasts during the heat of battle... which implies turning back. I beleive its under Bran Redmaws blurb.
