OK, this is my most recent conversion i am working on. i have taken an Ork Trukk chassis and cab area. I am working on making it into a Duece and a Half style truck for my Guardsman. I want to build a very fluff based army, consisting of fuel, transport and supply trucks like this. to be used as Chimera's when it comes to game time.

I did some simple plastic work for the hood and front end. i covered the orky glyphs and general knobly-ness with some putty.

As you can see i took thin strips of balsa wood, to make a Wooden looking floor for the flat bed area.

I am on the Hunt for some good looking, correct sized wheels. As i do not want to put the Trukk wheels on it, cause i think they look wrong.
I also plan on making a "canvas" canopy for the back of the truck. probably going to do it with gause and some for of stiff wire mfor the frame.

C&C Very Welcome!!

Have you had a look at Dave Taylor's tutorial on how to convert Orks Trukks into Guard trucks? Its got some handy templates and may help you a bit with your converion. ^^

He's also got a Hellhound variant on there under BloodPact which you could use as a fuel transporter (or a Hellhound of course). Heh, a guy at my local club made fourteen of those trucks after I suggested them for his Armoured Company. ^^

For the canvas canopy, you may want to consider using paper towel drenched in some very watered down elmers glue. I don't remember what I used it for, but it makes good cloth...but it's cheap enough that you can try it out on something else and scrap it if you don't like how it turns out.

Tissue paper also works for a canopy if you want to avoid the texture of some paper towels.

Just be careful when putting it down over the top as its rather fragile until it hardens up.

Thanks guys for the canopy ideas! i will be trying each one of them and seeing which one i like the most!!! and ill post up each one when im finished.

SO i got bored in the wee hours of the night, and i got a lot done. WHOO not being able to sleep!
So anyways here are some more pics of what i did.

I found nice looking wheels! I took them off of a hot wheels sized toy tractor that i found. They look quite fitting and pretty accurately sized!

Now some pics of the truck,

So I am going to be finishing up the rest of the modeling, not really sure what else im going to do. And then its on to the basing phase. Most likely going to start painting it tomorrow.

First of all, I love the idea here. I have looked at both what you came up with, and at the linked tutorial from earlier in the thread, and like how they came out. Actually, I like your cab style better

I do however feel that you need to slow down a bit, I'm not sure if you haven't gotten to the details yet, but I feel like the lines could use some work. Obviously it's still a WIP, but looking at the bed area, it feels orky due to the uneven edges of the plasticard, and the lumpy hood could use some work.

I love your use of tractor tires, I really feel that this truck could haul some cargo/troops, and the visor on the cab is a great touch.

Thanks SeverePatronage! personally i think the one that was linked looks too much like an Urban APC instead of a Military supply or troop truck. I Like his model a lot, but doesn't fit my tastes.

I have no gotten to the details yet. i have all of the putty work to do filling in the gaps, and making everything more high speed. I agree about the hood, i wound up cutting some plastic to make a smoother hood. i am working on cleaning up the edges of the bed area also, i noticed it looked too rough. I just ordered some bitz of GW and some aquilas so put on. I also need to get headlights to put on the front fenders, most likely the long cone styled ones from chaos vehicles i am trying to come up with a nice looking bumper for the front end.

Yeah i went through some old toys of mine unpacking and saw the tractor toys, and fell in love with the tires!

You did a very good job making the front look like a modern semi. you should see if you can find a few of horns for the roof!

I have been working on filling the gaps and smoothing the model out the past day or so. I have also added a Heavy Stubber on top of the cab. Plating on the hood to make it look cleaner than my putty job. I added an aquila to the front, along with a small bumper deal. On the visor i am going to have 5 small pieces to be painted to look like cab lights akin to the ones you see on top of tractor semis. i took the top hatch from a rhinio to make a tailgate and i am working on an exhaust pipe to come up and to the top of the model, with a Flapper on top too! clear plastic for the windows has been added and so have doors!

Heres an update photo from before i started a lot of the work, newer photos to follow shortly!

Looking good, only thing I can really suggest to smooth out your putty job is to wait for it to cure all the way, and sand it with a fine grit until it fits correctly.

Other than that, it looks like some of the lines are a bit off, but it may just be the pictures.

Good work!

Alright guys this weekend i should be finishing up the sanding, modeling and painting. I Just received my Box of Happiness! a GW oder with some bitz, a Metal Commissar and a Metal Techpriest!

I shall be working on them over the weekend and there will be pics up most likely next week!

I found that the barrel from a Shoota, and from a Tau Plasma rifle work Perfectly to make exhaust pipe!

hah it Is a little bit big, but i will snap a few shots with it next to my Russ and my ShadowSword.

Its supposed to be a Huge transport truck. so I think it fits pretty well. In fact its nearly identical in size to the base vehicle, the Ork Trukk.

Thanks for the compliment!!!

Nice work Firecancer! if you want smaller headlamps, maybe the sentinel ones from the recent kit redo would be the right size? but something about those headlights seems to fit this first truck!

Thank you so much guys! I really appreciate the kind words!

@SeverePatronage: Do It!!! I'm not a big fan of humvees so get an Ork trukk and put a WIP of It!!!

@Shasolenzabi: I haven't had a chance to see the new sentinel kit yet. So I'll look into it for headlights. Though as you said Something just seems Right about them! I was thinking about using the older styled CSM searchlights though I have been having trouble finding any. And the new CSM vehicles have the SM searchlight in it.

Though I'm just waiting to put on the final paintjob and finish up the muddying process, and Possibly a dozed blade. What do you guys think about that?

Cheers!

I'd say no to the dozer blade. Maybe a cow-catcher? Maybe.

The hummer is kinda Elysian inspired, going to be more of a mix between a duece and a half, and a hummer, much like the troop transport warthog from the Halo game, only with a longer bed and wheelbase.

I would go with a snowplow blade, not the flat dozer one, it would look better on a truck design! Talk about clearing the speedways! personal cars shoved out of the way by that big Deuce and it's v-shaped plow! "OUT OF THE WAY OF THE GUARD!" from the gunner as they receive angry retorts from the civvies!

The FW Venetors and Tauros buggies for the Elysians look nice, but also, I like some of the Old Crow stuff for a cheaper alternative:

and

and for the six wheeled version:

Sounds pretty cool there SeverePatronage! Post up some photos of you WIP. definitely interested to see your work, man! Good Luck!

Those are some Sweet looking models from Old Crow!
And hmmm, i am gonna do some playing around with a Big V-Plow. That's a cool idea Shaso! I have about a dozen of the IG dozer blades laying around right now!

I'm working on a little bit of Info about this truck, more for my own fluff purposes though i will post it up when im finished! If you notice, it says IMC. Stands for Imperial Motors Corporation. Since i have a lot of knowledge about the American automotive companies over the mant years i am incorporating that into my fluff about the IMC and about this design of truck. Along with some fake specs. Just for the fun of it!

Cheers!

Yeah Firecancer, you can get some ideas in my thread where i discussed the tanks and why they came to be that way and why they are fielded by the Khadrovians, you can also find that in the Khadrovian Konfederacy thread in the Dakka Fiction section.
