There is this guy at my store and his attitude really makes me angry when he speaks to me; he always makes it sounds like he is always right and always speaks to me in a condescending manner; though this might be a stupid thing to get angry at but what happened was that he beat me in a game and I made a back story of what happened to the survivors of my army after the battle; he kept inserting his version of what happened and how he and his friend who plays Eldar managed to slaughter my entire army and they kept ignoring what I said or kept refuting it; I know its a dumb thing to be angry at but I just don't like how he was so assertive about it and how he and his friend ganged up on me to troll me

He also kept trying to intimidate me before the game and kept telling me that my units are not cost efficient and kept attempting to troll me
Also his friend is a complete rules lawyer and always speaks with an egotist tone in his voice and has told me BS rules

How do I deal with people like these?

(btw these guys like in their mid 20's while I'm 17)

Hmm. Just let it go. There's a lot of people like that. I know their type well. Just say 'yeah' and nod, and they'll calm down. Sorry if that's bad advice. My policy is to save aggression for physical confrontations. It's more valuable there. Don't waste your time trying to challenge them.

just ignore them and don't bother playing them again if you can help it.

That sucks, but you find people like this in every facet of life.

Best piece of advice I can offer is to be an adult about it and tell him that his behavior bothers you. I would probably never play with the guy again, but you should tell him that his attitude is bothersome.

But unfortunately, more often than not, telling them this won't have any effect, so you should be prepared to deal with him in future encounters. Refuse to play with him again, make it clear why you won't play with him, and let him do whatever he is going to do. Ignore his wailing and moaning long enough and he will stop focusing it at you.

Or, alternatively, you could bring a third party into the situation as an attempt to resolve it like gentlemen. An older player you trust can make a world of difference when dealing with people who treat younger guys like dirt; when facing somebody eye to eye, they will most likely become a might more civil.

oops about my spelling

Yeah but I think the way the described what happened to my army after the battle just made me feel really bad because it kind of destroyed the long back story I written about my army and made me feel as if I don't know my own story(basically its like this; the I was playing against his IG army and an Eldar Army, 1500 each with my 1000 point IG, and my beginner friend's 2000 pt grey knights where the IG army split from the Imperium and went with the Eldar to destroy a relic while the grey knights wanted to retrieve it and we lost so I made up a story where my Army faked their deaths in order to get away from the grey knights execution of witnesses but no, they had to insert THEIR version of the story where they and the other IG army and the Eldar hunted down ALL of my troops and grey knights and killed them and the other IG guy reports back and says everyone was killed by accident and he wins everything and they both ganged up on)

Hang on when you mean you made a backstory of what happened to your models after the game do you mean you went home and wrote one up or started to narrate the story to the poor bastard you were playing?

If it was the latter I would have made fun off you too...3 years even at that age dose not make a whole lotta diffrence prolly best you grow a set and harden the feth up if you act like a victim you will be one.

Think the OP means deuce, which is a pair.
Hence deuce bag = scrotum.
Sounds about right.

Jubear: mid 20's to 17 is three years difference?

As said just try and ignore them
It's your narrative

Is this another "gamer hygiene" thread?...

At OP, ignore them..not worth getting your deuce bag twisted over.

I thought he meant 'douche bag' as in the sack of water attached to a woman's cleansing tool. I'll agree to disagree. They're both cool insults.

Anyway, his explanation of the game was a bit cruel. It's like rubbing salt in the wound of defeat. What a douche/deuce.

What I like to do is to completely ignore them because their opinions don't matter. That is how i deal with "deuces"
With Douches I tell them to go Bugger off.

Whats wrong with adding a little narration to the battle; before the game started he did some narration too, just that afterwards he acted egotistical about his biased victory(his 1500 point IG army combined with his friend's 1500 pt Eldar army mostly converged on my 1000 pt IG)

You shouldn't make fun of someone for doing a narration, you tell me to grow up but the way you act is no different from that of a typical elementary school bully

I usually go the "evil" way and insult them in a way that they wont understand until several hours later. Or then just keep saying "so?" when they say my army list sucks or such. Makes them go quiet... or angry and lose consentration.

Why did you play 3000pts and 2 force org charts against 1000pts of IG? I love a challenge but that just a slaughter with some dice involved along the way.

And there is nothing wrong with some narration during a game however getting upset because your opponent had his own view of events is more then a little silly (and frankly a little creepy its a game of toy soldiers)Is the fictional backstory for your army so critical to your enjoyment of the game that you would get upset because someone had a diffrent view of what happened. Also alot of players dont really care what your genrals name is or the history of your IG they just want to play the game.

But all that aside I really do think you need to learn how to stand up for yourself If you cant even muster the courage to face your fellow nerds what are you going to do latter in life when you need to defend your family or partner? And for the record I am no bully I am a nerd just like you (minus the fluff) I just hate to see the stereotype of the weak gutless nerd perpetuated.

I wasn't really angry about the narration it was more about how the opponents pretty much teased me during and after the game and the snobby attitude they gave me which was really conveyed through the way they told their narration of the outcome;

Again. your 17 years old. Your going to get countless people like this through your life. Its how you deal with it that will show your true character. TBH Im surprised it took so long for you to encounter these, I find that 90% of the people who game in GW are the same. Thats why I game at home like twice a year.

It's rare for me to run into stuff like this honestly. I am a respectful person and love to joke around. but I am no pushover. and I believe I show that in my simple body language. this may sound funny but I always stand proud/broad with my head high. on top of speaking loud with more of an authority tone. and honestly that's normally how I am. I find I get a lot more respect this way because I am not a jerk with this attitude but fair and joking. but I will stand my ground to anyone who makes comments my way.

I believe you need to strengthen yourself in how you handle these things and how to prevent them from happening.

You are not free whose liberty is won by the rigour of other, more righteous souls. Your are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic, you suck the honourable man dry and offer nothing in return. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it, your time has come. This time you will stand alone and fight for yourselves. Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood.

The advice here to ignore them and keep on playing is very grown up and mature.

But you could also tell them to feth OFF. In the politest way possible of course.

Was PoA even addressing these guys?
He was making fluff presumably about his own army and it sounds like they were taking the piss.
That is not a very mature way to act.

On a site dedicated to toy soldiers I am thinking no one has the right to tell another to grow up dude.

That should be "you are" or "you're" btw

+1 to this. It saddens me that some people are so insecure about their hobby that they feel the need to lash out at how others enjoy it. If you don't like the way someone is involved in their hobby, just don't hang around with them. That's my advice to you, OP, as well. These guys don't sound like fun to play with, so don't play with them.

Its a game not a fething lifestyle this may be a surprise to some players but many players really dont give a feth about some stupid lame backstory that some bloke may have taken hours to write and prepare time that would prolly have been better spent learning some basic social skills or bathing...

And I love how fluff bunnies defend there right to bore me out of my skull with the drivel they spill "This is my captain his name is solarius etc etc. Am I the only guy left that can enjoy the game without writng the name of every trooper on the base. Because honestly this gak make me wanna hand in my nerd card. I mean if the OP played wow or any other MMO when he joins a raid does he make the rest of the players sit thru a 15 minute dictation of the backstory he has created for his character?

Dont get why these sorts of players are playing wargames seems roleplaying games is really what you should be playing.

So don't play with them. I agree, no one should be forcing you to listen to the fluff they've made up, but that doesn't give you the right to claim that your way of enjoying the game is in any way better. Just don't play with those people. There are plenty of players out there who want to play the game just for the game, after all.

You are 17. You are old enough to choose how you react to others. It would seem instead you are allowing them to decide how you will react. You have given them power over you, they know it and will continue to abuse it.

Instead you could choose to negate their power over you. When they tell you a unit is not worth the points or what ever, agree, but follow up with "but since I'm playing for fun I used the units I thought coolest". When they change/mock your narrative, tell them "great idea!" and keep up a smile as you pack up and find someone else to play with. Maybe even compliment the douche bags on some aspect of their army to feed their ego a little. Their ego can be as big as they want it to be, without YOU feeling bad about yourself or your army.

You learn something from everyone. Sometimes it is how to be, sometimes it is how not to be. YOU choose to allow the lesson to affect you to the extent it does. At the end of the day, you need to be happy with you, not with their perception or treatment of you.

Everybody gets into this hobby for a different reason; some people are here for the fluff, some for the gameplay, others still for the painting and modeling. Personally, I am here for the ladies.

I play extremely fluffy, figuring out my own SM chapter and IG regiments to back up the custom paint jobs I do, but most of the time I keep that stuff to myself or post it on here. If somebody starts talking fluff with me or asks the background of my army, I can use that to show off my handy narrative and book binding skills(my army has a tome ) Point of all this is to enjoy what you like about the game and share it with like minded individuals. The trick being to not share it with people who couldn't care less about the background and just want to see their army wipe the floor with somebody else's. If they start interjecting or being rude about it, generally a good idea to stop story time.
