Mutated Chosen Chaos Marine

So according to fluff, Lucius was resurrected by possessing anyone that killed him and felt something, because his death was so pleasurable. So if he was killed by someone with no mind, or who was incapable of emotion, would he really die, or would Slaanesh resurrect him anyway in a different body? It seems unlikely Slaanesh would restrict itself and allow its favoured champion to die just because the person that actually killed him wasn't a viable option. It always seemed more like his possession was a sadistic twist rather than a set in stone requirement.

I believe that in the event that Lucius got his head bit off by a Carnefex Slannesh would resurrect him. He is just too much fun to watch to have him benched on the sidelines. There are just too many "other" creatures in the 40K universe that could kill him, wouldn't feel anything, but more importantly just wouldn't morph into a human encased in Chaos warped armor.
The GKs are supposed to also be unfeeling/caring warriors as well. So in theory if he got done in by a GK the GK wouldn't turn into Lucius.
However, after the battle Lucius corpse may be no where to find.

Yes, I imagine Slanesh would find a vile sort of pleasure in one of its favoured champions finally falling to a little quirk in the pact that they made with it. However, maybe as the years go on after Lucius's demise the "hero" may fall prey to their fame at killing such a warrior, and thus eventually turn into him decades later. In the case of Tyranids or other unfeeling organisms then I guess I'd refer you to my first statement (though I don't think Slanesh would allow him to be killed by a falling rock or anything like that). =P

Lucius can only be resurrected in the form of someone who felt pleasure killing him, because he's a champion of the god of pleasure. If a Carnifex kills him and doesn't care, there isn't any pleasure for Slaanesh to tap into in order to make Lucius possess the Carnifex. This is just a personal theory though.

This. Chaos Gods can't do whatever they want. If there was no "pleasure", at best I could see Slaanesh getting his soul in the Warp and elevating it to Daemon Princedom so he could go back into the Materium from time to time.

It's also possible that in a battle that Lucius could have been killed without anyone knowing. Imagine a vindicator round splatters him across the ground and then maybe even the vindicator and its crew are killed, he can die for good. Slaanesh no doubt has countless beings like Lucius across time and space to keep him busy.
I'm sure even the Rubric of the Thousand Sons could be undone which would be the end for that legion but who would perform the rites? Grey Knights, Inquisition, a rival chaos group or perhaps Ahriman himself?

Also, in my opinion, Lucius is one of many Champions. Why else would he not be a Daemon Prince? After all, he's not like Abaddon who actually has a reason to not want to be one.

I figured Lucious's end will come in a nonpersonal manner. Fragged by artillery or something and the guy who did it never knows he got him.
Of course no named character in 40k is ever going to be unlucky enough to catch an earthshaker shell or similar, that happens to redshirts. (the star trek type not the GW type)

I'd imagine that he stays mortal just because it's more fun to kill things bigger than him than to go around stomping people into the ground.
Logically, Kharn and Typhus are the champions most likely to be Daemons by now, but GW just wants them human for some reason.

Horns and hoofs do not a demon prince make.
Going by the 3.5 Chaos codex, Lucius has enough demonic gifts to be considered a Demon Prince. He is also a psycher in that he has some always on minor chaos psychic powers. Everything about him says demon prince with the exception of his physical appearance. But that doesn't mean he isn't a monster in his own right.
And there is nothing wrong with that. Add to that his somewhat immortal status, I'd say he is a perfect representation of a gods favorite child.

He does. It's the reason Slaanesh resurrected him in the first place. He's always on the look out for someone as good as him because he thinks being killed painfully is so pleasurable.

Considering the entire Horus Heresy took only a moment of the chaos gods attention, I would agree that Slaanesh cares very little for her "favored champion"

Kharn is human (well, Astartes) still because Khorne likes him that way. Khorne likes the amount of carnage he causes as he is, and blesses him accordingly, and even resurrects him when he dies. Kharn isn't becoming a daemon prince any time soon.

Well since Khorne protects his followers from psychic powers 'n' what not I imagine he might safeguard him from Slaanesh's meddlings.

Or he could die to some exotic and lethal STD? My personal theory is that if Lucius is killed by a necron or a carnifex etc, someone, not nessesarily the killer, will have some benefit or pleasure from his death as they eventually find out. It could be a soldier or civilian who's family or friends were killed by Lucius, or another Emperor's Children Astartes who would benefit from his death by becoming a Lord Commander of the warband in Lucius's place, etc. This individual would be the one who is possessed by Lucius.
