Picked up AOBR for myself and a buddy of mine. He's going with the Orks, and I'll build another army with the SM. So, in your opinion, what SM variant is the best when starting with an AOBR set, knowing that I will expand upon it?

Who are the Flesh Helms? Sounds like a pretty terrible name for a space marine chapter, IMHO.

Sounds kinda naughty too.

Imperial fist are a cool shove-it-Calgar-and-your-darnd-Ultramarines army.

I've seen a fair amount of Ultramarines, made from the AOBR set, however you should probably take a look at the gallery section to see what you will like. Personally I picked Black Templars, because they're my favorite chapter, followed closely by the Space Wolves.

Really, pick the one you like the looks of. You can have plan looking marines in any army... though GK would be harder to do sense they have all kinds of funky weapons that other chapters don't get.

Paint them Warmongers. Bring epicness to an obscure tribe of space marines no one has ever heard of.

Flesh Helms.. sounds dirty...

Anything but UM. They are a bunch of insufferably self-righteous prats that have less acting skill than early Shatner..

You can do any of them. I personally turned mine into Space wolves. The extra bits in the wolf pack box made it real easy. I was even able to convert the terminators fairly easily.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:

He brings Dante his coffee during campaigns!

Dante > All

"AM are bunch of half human-half robot monkeys who keep tech working by punching it with a wrench And their tech is so sophisticated that you could never get it wrapped it out" thing a LITTLE to seriously. It also goes "Tau tech is so awesome I wish I was Tau and not some stupid Human" thing.

I'm currently leaning towards Imperial Fists. Is there anything in their fluff that says they don't have assault marines? I don't think I've ever seen a IF with a jump pack, now that I think about it.

Fix'd!

That said, boltermarines with Tac squad markings make Templars a more modelling-intensive choice. On the other hand, if you get 2 Cyclone Missile Launchers and a terminator power fist you get the best unit in the BT Codex (or you could just run the Sergeant as a Marshal in termie armour and have the 4 others be his command squad).

Forgive my ignorance, but is the BT codex outdated?

Yes and no. We've got the oldest Codex this side of Necrons, but after the FAQ was released this January we got a whole lot of cool stuff, including dual CML Terminators (and Terminator Command squads) with Tank Hunters.

Well done my man.

Tali'Zorah: I appreciate what you're doing here, Shepard.
Commander Shepard: Well, I care deeply about the quarian people.
Tali'Zorah: It's good to be back on the Normandy.
Commander Shepard: Let me know if it's too quiet for you to sleep, and I'll find you someplace louder.
Tali'Zorah: Hmm.
Garrus Vakarian: Uh, I was there when you two had your thing, remember? Just get a room and work it out.

Crimson Fists, the components from AoBR fit right in to a small CF force. Start adding Sternies, Scouts, and Tanks and your all set.

generic marines... make your own symbol.

that way you can have them wysiwyg for equipment, but play them as any MEQ chapter

allows you to change things up, tired of playing vanilla marines.. .pick up black templar codex... tired of that try out wolves... not the most popular thing to do, but hey its perfectly legal

Here's an idea: a Deatwatch army that I can use as a counts-as with any SM codex. I think this is what I might do....

Honestly the box was made for Ultramarines so you have their emblems on the shoulder pads, but after reading up on the Flesh Helms I would make those. Does anyone know if someone has made any current rules for the Flesh Helms somewhere on the internet?

Orkses is never defeated in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!

There aren't any Ultramarine symbols on them. Not anything glaringly ultramarines, anyway.

I'd go with whatever Space Marine chapter you'd enjoy painting.
