Subject: The Corespur Elite - Building a Better Dark Eldar Army

The Corespur Elite "They might not be our biggest threat, or our most implacable foe, but they don’t need to be. They are spectators and connoisseurs of the carnage that has engulfed our galaxy. For good reason, we judge them all to be sadistic, selfish, and soulless parasites on this dimension, and no one in this dying imperium would dare speak a word of respect for this scourge. But we are merely jealous. The Dark Eldar do not war to protect, to acquire, or to accomplish. With apathy they speed up the death of a dying galaxy merely for sustenance and enjoyment. They are entropy, remorselessly spreading destruction and decay simply because it is in their nature to. The Dark Eldar are contempt to watch and savor the coliseum galaxy." - Argenitus, Priest of Terra Thanks for visiting my p&m blog! The Corespur Elite is the most extensive 40k project I've ever done, and in this blog I've documented its design and development over the last couple years. I'm very proud of the way this army turned out, and in part I must thank the visitors of this blog for their comments and suggestions. While this is a p&m blog, I've also used it to help develop my army on the battlefield. After a fairly long phase of getting my butt whopped and learning lessons, I became more competent, and my lists became deadlier. In the last 6 months or so of 5th edition, I got to go to a handful of tournaments and ended my season with a record of 8-5 including one 3-0 1st place, two 2-1 days with losses on the top table in round 3, and--bringing the average down--a 1-3 romping at a 1000pt tournament.. Dark Eldar is a tough race to play; Its fragile yet expensive, unforgiving to your mistakes, and it has some very bad match ups. But I'm glad that its a difficult army, what fun would it be if it weren't? I've always found pride in proving the capabilities of the underestimated. I picked this army--like many of your I bet--because I think the models are amazing, also, I used to have an old wonky dark eldar army. But in my decade long history of playing this game on and off, one thing I never had was a fully painted and detailed 2000pt army, and that was a goal from the beginning. Its cliche, but this army most prized possession. Its easily the most artistic thing I've ever done. And, unlike most artistic mediums, I can take my piece of art and kick your piece of art's ass in a game of tactics and chance! Therein lies the beauty of this hobby. Enjoy! 6th edition content to come! INTRODUCTION Since I've started painting them and battling with them, I've decided to create a project log for my Dark Eldar army. While I'd like to get some feedback and suggestions on my painting and modeling, I'd also like to further my ability to create and command a competitive Dark Eldar force. I am excited to eventually be able to put a fully painted Dark Eldar army on the table, but I am more excited to try out the incredibly varied options in the codex and construct my ideal list. So this project log is a painting, modeling, and gaming log; hopefully it will be interesting, informative, and inspiring for the both of us! I'll post at least once a week with pictures / thoughts of what I've been painting and what games I've played. FIRST MODELS So far I have about 1750 points of Dark Eldar models. I'd like to be able to create lists around a number of different HQ units, but the only one that I have modeled so far is Baron Sathonyx. I don't like the way the Baron or the Hellions are portrayed in the codex, and I don't like the heads and torsos that come in the Hellions kit, so I knew I wanted to do something different. I decided to give them all wych chests and faceplates, with some special bits to make the Helliarch unique. I knew I wanted to do a windsurfing Baron ever since I saw one on Google Images, and after some contemplation I expanded on the concept and created a unique Baron for the Corespur Elite. The Baron is one of my favorite HQs because he is so cheap and so practical. I mean, he's got a succubus's stats, a skyboard, a shadowfield, a grenade launcher, and str 6 on the charge? For 105 points that's amazing as is. But on top of that he makes Hellions troops, and since even that wasn't enough, he also gives you +1 on the dice to go first. Simply an amazing character. All the models that I've painted so far. My Baron and my Hellions. I have 10 models in total, 6 painted. Hopefully I'll have 15 eventually. The Aethersurfer himself. Helliarch of the Corespur Elite Hellions of the Corespur Elite Ravager and Riader BASES The one thing I haven't settled on is how I want to base my army. I have some sand and some rocks and bits for them, but I don't know what direction I want to go in. Here are a few different colors. What colors will look good with my purple/blue scheme? Left to right, these are Graveyard Earth, Codex Grey, and Cathan Brown SATURDAY AT THE BATTLE BUNKER Yesterday I went to the Battle Bunker in Bowie, MD with my newly painted Dark Eldar. I came with the following 2000 point list, with proxies for the Incubi and the Archon: 105 – Baron 180 – Archon with huskblade, ghostplate armor, combat drugs, soul-trap, PGL, shadow field 146 – 3 Trueborn with blasters, Venom with extra SC 158 – 4 Incubi, Venom with extra SC and retrofire jets 169 – 9 Hellions, Helliarch with agonizer 380 – (2x) 8 Wyches, shardnet, Hekatrix with agonizer, Raider with FF 150 – 5 Warriors, blaster, sybarite, with blast pistol, Raider with FF 156 – 6 Reavers, 2 heat lances 132 – 5 Scourges, heat lance, haywire blaster 250 – (2x) Ravager with FF and NS 175 – Razorwing with SC and FF and NS 2001 As much as I was looking forward to getting a couple games in with this list, I got suckered into joining a megabattle... I usually have a strict rule against playing multiplayer games... I said "sure" when asked if I could fill the last spot, and immediately regretted it. There were about 6000 points on each side, 3 or 4 generals using their models, and some weird force organization rules. The ensuing battle reaffirmed all the reasons that I hate multiplayer 40k, but in the end it was pretty fun and my Dark Eldar did decently. Razorwing's view of the mega battle. Baron and the Hellions just killed a Harpy but are currently fleeing from the DOOM!!! Wyches, Incubi, and the Archon are headed over to chop up the Hive Tyrant, his guards, and some gaunts. I didn't know that it had a lash whip (don't play tyranids often), so it did a number on me, but the Archon made a bunch of shadowfield saves and eventually took it down. I think his soul trap captured 7 things over the course of the battle. The Doom of Malanchai landed right in the middle of all my units and kinda screwed me over. That thing is rediculous! Never fought it before. It did a number on the Baron and the Hellions who proceeded to break and run off the table... not a good showing for the Baron's first battle. But where the Baron failed, the Archon picked up a load of slack. I charged them with some Wyches into two units of Death Company with Sanguinary Guards in them. Don't know why there were two Guards... the kid was kind of new to the game. But in true Dark Eldar fashion I spared him no mercy, and revealed his tiny flank of Death Company for what they really were; four pain tokens and two souls for my Archon to steal. After the Doom F'ed up my army, the Archon took its ten wounds away with a single stroke of the Huskblade, and then proceeded to chop down the Hive Tyrant. Huskblade-Soultrap Archon is a beast. The Baron Aethersurfing across the battlefield right after chopping down a Harpy and right before fleeing in terror from the Doom of Malanchai! I can't really take anything from this game in terms of list building because it required me to chop up the list I brought, but I did get some experience with some of my units. If I go next week hopefully I'll get a couple real games in. Thanks for reading guys, peace.

TRUEBORN AND BASES
Today I finally decided how to do the bases of my Corespur Elite; just some sand and some rocks, with a Graveyard Earth rim. Looks pretty good, I think the yellow/brown really compliment the purple/blue. Inspired by how the bases were bringing my army together, I painted my Trueborn! They're already one of my favorite units that I've ever painted, and I'm glad to have my own unique squad because its not one of my favorite options in the codex, but its quite an effective unit.
4 Trueborn with Blasters. Might draw something freehand on their face plates; but I do quite like the jet black.
Here you can see some of the bases on my vehicles. I'm gonna put the windshield on the venom eventually... Also I'm considering putting some of those poles on my Raiders.
I think the bases really tie together the models on flight stands and the regular models.
I think next I'll paint the 4 other Hellions I have assembled, and then I think I'll paint the Razorwing
@Ogryn: I haven't played much in the last couple months, but I want to more. I go to either the Battle Bunker in MD or a store called Dream Wizards in MD.

This looks great! I think you went the right way with the bases, they compliment well. The trueborn look sweet...leave the faceplates black. It looks menacing.

Thanks for the support guys! I think I'm going to draw a face plate tattooo for the Baron too, but I want to think of something distinct from the Helliarch. Although, the eye is a theme in the Hellions squad; all of the face plates that I used from the wych kit have their eye painted blue, and the Helliarch's tattoo reflects that. I took a better picture of my Trueborn, enjoy RAZORWING I've been really motivated to paint, so I started working on my Razorwing! I knew that the main chassis would be the same purple, and all the Eldar-bubbles would be blue. STEP 1 The base color of all the purple in my army is a mix of about 5 parts Liche Purple and 1 part chaos black. Then its highlighted with Liche Purple, as shown. All of the orbs get a base-coat of Necron Abyss STEP 2 Highlighted with Warlock Purple. The whole time, I was thinking about what to do with the back fins. I decided I should try matching them with the two plates in the front. STEP 3 Orbs painted with Ice Blue. At this stage, I thought that the blue on the orbs was overpowering, there are a lot of them on the Razorwing. So I decided whatever I did with the rest of the plates should be blue to take some of the focus away from the bubbles. STEP 4 I decided to paint them Necron Abyss with a highlight of Ice Blue. I like it, but I don't love it. I think I might repaint the two in the front to be purple like the rest. Or I might try to do something like what I do on my Raider sails. Looks pretty good, but its missing something... Still definitely a work in progress. Not completely sold on the blue on the front and back panels. And I still have to paint some details, and the whole bottom! Here's a couple pictures of it with the rest of the Corespur Elite. When I do its base, it will look better with the rest of the army. But something still seems to be off... I think its the two panels in the front that I painted blue. I think I might change them. You guys got any thoughts on it? Thanks for reading! PS - I think I'm going to convert my Razorwing to fit into the ball/socket flying stand like everything else

That razorwing looks fantastic. I like the contrast of your color choices. I've been painting some craftworld eldar in a similar style as your dark eldar, except I've based on green instead of purple. If we played a game it'd look really neat haha.

RAZORWING FIXED
So I think I fixed my Razorwing. I just painted the front fins purple, think it looks better like this.
The blue front fins looked weird. Unfortunately, they're a little darker now since they have Necron Abyss under there, but its not very noticeable. Having the blue fins only in the back give the model some more motion, and models in motion is a motif in my army, from the drawn back agoizers to the hanging chains on my Helliarch. Also the base helps relate the Razorwing to the rest of the Corespur Elite
Here it is on the flight stand
CONVERSION
I never liked how the Razorwing was the only Dark Eldar model with a flight stand that doesn't have a ball and socket stand. It's also stuck in this weird tilted position on the normal flyers stand. So, I converted it to have a pose-able ball and socket stand!!! It was very simple; I had a Hellion board leftover since I used a Hellion body for my Baron, so I just shaved that down to just the socket, and stuck it in the X where the flying stand goes. Then I just glued the end of a flight stand onto the flyers stand, and voila!!!
Now I can play around with the position of my Razorwing during games, just like you can with Raiders.
I like how the light fell on it in this picture. Still need to paint the disentigrators and the missiles... Oh also one of the missiles fell of sometime and I have no idea if it was at home or at a store...
Here it is with the other Corespur Elite. Note how the base helps connect it to the models on the ground.
Here's another angle.
Hope you like it! Feel free to use the conversion, its quite simple!!!
Peace.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I’ve been thinking a lot about this army in the last few days. Over the next few weeks I’m gonna paint the rest of the grav ships, and if I paint sliscus and his trueborn, my archon and some incubi, and a couple more squads of wyches, I’ll be right around 2000 points with 3 options for HQ. Then the real fun begins. AETHERSURFING BARON I would be glad to do a tutorial. I took the initial idea from a google image I saw and expanded on the concept, so there’s no reason why you guys shouldn’t be able to do the same with my design. I entered my Baron into a September contest at http://miniaturewargameconversions.blogspot.com/2011/09/voting-has-begun-on-all-20-entries-into.html I came in second to the Razorwing conversion, but I think that was because he’s more active in blogs. Just gives me more encouragement to build something even cooler for a future contest It might look like a difficult conversion, but it’s really pretty simple; all you really need is patience. I think that there is a lot of room for individuality in this Baron concept. With all the amazing pieces in the DE model range, there are probably hundreds of ways you could build your board and your sail. WHAT I USED Again, I think there’s a lot of flexibility, and this is just the direction that I went in. Board; 1 Raider Sail. I picked the simplest one, the one that looks most like a wind surf sail. 2 Raider Handle Bar. These are attached to the side of the sail, and thankfully the Ravager kit comes with a spare one. 2 Identical Reaver Hulls. 1 Reaver Seat / Engine. 1 Phantasm Grenade Launcher. I used the Hellions underslung one. 1 Splinter Pod. I used two leftover Reaver splinter rifles. And of course, whatever spikes, chains, skulls and other doodads that you’d like. OOPS Right after I finished taking these pictures, I dropped my baron onto my dresser and the sail popped off. This is quite a fragile model, but I put it back together. This did give me an oppertunity to show you the sail and the board separate. STEP 1 – SAIL I built the sail before I knew what the board would look like, and I think the sail design was my main inspiration. Its what make my Baron actually look like a windsurfer, since they don’t hold onto the sail directly, but onto a bar that wraps around the sail. The 2 Raider Handle Bars fit perfectly onto the beam of the raider sail. Just spend some time nursing the glue to make sure it settles in the right position. STEP 2 – BOW I had some unbuilt Reavers when I was designing my Baron, so I used a leftover hull from the first 6 Reavers I have, and found the identical hull in the sprue. I fit them together so that the ribs were touching each other; you can see through the top of the board. I decided to put the PGL where the Reaver pop-up screens usually go; it looks cool, and it covers up the holes. I just chopped of a little bit of the spiked part and wedged them in there. I should have built the splinter pod before I glued the two hulls together, but I didn’t think of it until after I built the board. But I thought it was such a cool idea that I found a way to drop them in there and make them stay. STEP 3 - AFT I took the seat / engine piece of a Reaver and chopped off part of the front of it so it fit snugly between the front of my board. I cut off the bars that the rider puts his feat on, and I also took off the blade vanes and attached some chains to match the Helliarch I had already built. I used a Raider blade as a centerboard, and that’s pretty much it for the board. STEP 4 – PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER When you’re attaching different parts of the board together, be careful. I spent a few hours nursing this conversion, just to make sure that everything dried in the ideal place. The sail fits quite snugly in between the ribs of your Reaver hulls. Find the angle that you want (my sail is out about 15 degrees) but make to think about where your Baron might be standing, what pose you want him to have, and how he’s going to hang onto the sail. Again, there are plenty of options for the Baron himself. I don’t really like the way the Baron is portrayed in the codex, so I went my own way, and ended up with this. I chose a face plate because all of my Hellions have face plates. I’ll just give some tips for posing whatever pieces you choose to use. STEP 5 – THE BARON The one thing that I want to stress is the importance of the Baron actually looking he’s got control of this crazy contraption he’s riding. Make sure that one arm is clutching onto the sail; I’d say the perfect one is the Hellion arm that lets some poses grab onto the front of the board. I also cut the chain from the Hellions legs and glued it to the sail bar. This limits you to one of the two one-handed Hellglaves in the Hellion box, but of course you could also convert your own arm. I would also suggest that the head and the doodads that you use reflect the fact that this guys probably going really fast. Here are some more angles for reference. I’ve used some glue to make my ball and socket a little sticky. It’s not perfect, but it works. My board is a little front heavy, so I usually have to pose him leaning back. So, that's it! I told you it was a pretty easy conversion. It only requires the sacrafice of 1 jetbike and 1 hellion to make; everything else was from my bitz box. Thanks for checkin out my page!

So I think I’m done with Sliscus and my Archon, but I just want to see if anyone has any suggestions before I start painting them. SLISCUS Warrior legs, scourge chest, incubi racks, hellion shoulder pads. I think one of the blades is from the raider kit and the other is from the venom kit. I really like the scourge vials; they suggest that he has some really potent combat drugs running through him. I also really like the smaller daggers. Most sliscuses (slisci?) that I've seen have huge swords; either venom blades, or those dark elf corsair crossed blades. The smaller blades make him look more subtle and badass. I added some extra shoulder pads, and a blast pistol on his belt. I thought about mounting the blast pistol on his wrist, but it looked way too big and unwieldy. He’ll probably rarely use it anyways. ARCHON Scourge legs, scourge chest, incubi klaive with part of a warrior arm and a hellion shoulder pad, archon huskblade, incubi racks, and a shadowseer’s grenade launcher placed where some of the scourge vials were. The scythe is a huskblade and a soul trap in one. Obviously he'll have a shadowfield and a splinter pistol too... probably should slap a splinter pistol somewhere before I paint him. He has a PGL, and because of the scourge chest, the combat drugs are accentuated. I love those chests for characters; not only do they have the vials, but they have two places to put racks, flags, or whatever you want sticking out of your character's back. While I think Sliscus is ready to go, I think my archon might be missing something. I settled on the wych head with the indents in it; I always thought this looked weird with all the other wych heads, but I think it makes my archon look menacing and distinct. I tried attaching some chains to his belt but it looked kinda weird and I took them off. So this may be the finished model, but anyone think there might be some particularly good dark eldar doodads to add to him?

The duke looks badass. He's a knife man, watch yourself. I agree that the little knives give a feeling of him being way to quick and exact with his stabbing/slashing and the thought of what he'd do to an enemy is pretty scary.
The Archon looks cool, but I agree something feels like it's missing. Just a random idea, but maybe try a butt cape like dire avengers have? It'd add to the motion of the model as you could have it flowing behind him, and it'd add some to the bottom half.

I like the Duke, it matches his fluff, quick and deadly. The Archon looks good, but Yeah he is a little lacking.
His back side, mainly the lower area looks to empty.
Maybe a blade on the front of his foot, like he was going to kick someone in the throat and slit it. Like, a small blade. Oh and maybe cut a few studs off a spare part and make some semi-cleats for him, never know when you need to full out sprint or climb.
Just a few thoughts.

2000 POINT LIST So on Thursday and or Saturday I’m gonna head to my local GW and play a couple games. I’ll run this list, which seems pretty competitive, and will allow me to try a lot of different things. Ideally I would have more hellions and maybe some wracks so the Baron can steal their pain token. But after I put together my un-built Raider, I have all the models for this list, and half of them are now painted! 105 – Baron 150 – Duke 216 – 8 Trueborn, 2 SC, 6 carbines, raider with FF 173 – 4 Trueborn, blasters, venom with extra SC 169 – 9 Hellions, incl helliarch with agonizer 380 – (2x) 8 Wyches, shardnet, hekatrix with agonizer, raider with FF 125 – 5 Warriors, blaster, venom with extra SC 130 – 5 Scourges, 2 haywire blasters 156 – 6 Reavers, 2 heat lances 230 – (2x) Ravager with FF 165 – Razorwing with disentigrators, splinter cannon, and FF 1999 I’ll post about how my games go. Hopefully I won’t run into any Grey Knights because something tells me they would give this list trouble… ARCHON So here’s what I decided to do with the empty space on my Archon model. Just a trimmed down shardnet. I think it looks cool and makes him look even more evil. Its probably quite impractical in battle, especially with those big spikes on the end of his heels! But hell, I don’t think you can get more impractical than a flying wind surf board. In the 41st millennium, it’s all about going over the top, and doing your dirty work in style. I think my characters epitomize the deadly, reckless, flashy nature of personalities in the 40k universe. Thanks for stopping by!

I like the Archon a lot more. Just adding a little something to the bottom of the model makes it pop. And the net cape adds motion as well. Neato!

So this weekend, my brother came home from NYC with his army so I got to play him once, and we also went to the Bowie Battle Bunker for a couple games. I’ll run down the games and then talk about the directions that I want to go in. Wish I had taken pictures! I will next time. 2000 PTS VS SALAMANDERS My brother has a huge Salamanders army that has brought him a lot of success in the 40k universe. He’s been playing them since they were initiative 3 and could try and force an extra turn! When I was using my Eldar, he consistently shut me down. When I had my Ork army fully running, I would be the one shoving him around. But with my new Dark Eldar army, the few games we’ve played so far have been close and interesting. In this game he ran vulkan, 6 thunder hammer termies in a land raider crusader, 2 rifle dreads, 2 vindicators, a land speeder typhoon, and 3 tactical squads with a flamer, a missile launcher, and a lascannon razorback. I ran the list in the post above. My combat drugs worked ideally; I rolled a 6 and a 1 and took the pain token for all my units this is certainly the only thing that kept me from being tabled… He deployed first and spread out his army across his edge. I made an amateur move and attempted a refused flank, but I left the razorwing behind cover on the empty flank. It was amateur because the guns that would have been ignored by the flank could shoot at the razorwing… lesson learned. His first turn was very successful, he blew up a ravager and both wych raiders, and he stunned the razorwing and the other ravager. That set the tone for the whole game. Both my venoms were in reserves, so immediately my army was crippled. The rest of the game pretty much consisted of me clawing my way to a draw after this immobilizing first turn. He popped the razorwing and the second ravager on turn 2, and I had yet to kill anything. The hellions did a pretty good job, despite the bad luck they had. They jumped up to one of the combat squads on turn 2 and beat it in combat, but he rolled high and I rolled low for initiative, and the couple remaining marines broke. The all too necessary pain token went running off the table… So the Hellions took shots from both flamer combat squads. The Baron rolled a 1 on his first shadwfield save and soon ate dirt, and after his shooting phase I just had the Helliarch and a couple hellions left. But they proceeded to hit and run around and kill at least 1 more squad. He immobilized his own land raider, so his termies didn’t end up doing anything by the time we called it. So all in all, I got my but kicked. But I definitely learned from it. I should never half ass a refused flank, and I should be MUCH more aggressive and put more pressure on my opponent. 1250 PTS VS ELDAR This was a quick game that I played when I got to the battle bunker. My opponent was a nice guy with a good looking eldar army, but he only had enough to run 1250, so I chopped my list down into just the baron and the hellions, the reavers, the two wych squads, and two ravagers. Maybe the warrior venom made it in too… can’t remember. He was running a farseer, two squads of 10 guardians with shuriken cannons, 10 dire avengers in a wave serpent, 5 rangers, 5 scorpions in a wave serpent, two war walkers with scatter lasers, and a wraithlord with two bright lances. I told him he should exchange one of those bright lances for a missile launcher, and hopefully he took my advice. The game was pretty easy for me, as there wasn’t much in the list that posed a threat to me. I kept the walkers stunned and flanked the hellions around to the guardians. I don’t think I lost much, and I had tabled him by the end of turn 4. The hellions were definitely the MVPs. Despite being pinned by the rangers on his turn 1, the made it to the hill where the guardians and the farseer were. And as they approached, my dark lances took out the two flamer wraithlord that would have posed problems to them… Anyways, they had a perfect combat with the guardians. It ended after his turn, and I got three pain tokens… doesn’t get much better than that. 1850 PTS VS CHAOS I took out the scourges and two wyches to make it to 1850, and played a guy with a chaos army. He was running a winged daemon prince, 5 chosen terminators, 5 possessed, 2 berserker squads in rhinos, a full squad of marines, 2 bloodletters squads… maybe there was more, I cant remember. This game was pretty easy as well. He didn’t have much tank killing, so my grav ships were doing whatever they wanted. I popped both his rhinos early and had a huge speed advantage. MVP this time was definitely the Duke and his squad. Since nothing was shooting at their Raider, I brought it close and moved it around 6 inches each turn, shooting everyone inside. They brought down the demon prince and finished at least two other squads, all without touching the table. Hellions did great again. Their hit and run is amazing, especially when you can reroll the distance. They jumped 14 inches after one of his turns combat, effectively giving them a charge distance of 32+ D6 inches!!! I could go wherever I wanted to, so they leapt across the table and engaged a different unit, allowing the marines they were in combat with to get erased by the duke and his trueborn. His list wasn’t that competitive, but I got some needed experience with my army. NEW 2000 PTS LIST So after some thinking, I’ve redesigned my list. I’ll still have to run the first one for the meanwhile, because I don’t have all the models for the list below. 105 – Baron 150 – Duke 95 – 3 Wracks, Venom with extra SC 175 – 5 Incubi, Venom with extra SC 217 – 12 Hellions, incl Helliarch with agonizer 151 – 9 Warriors, Raider with FF 190 – 8 Wyches, shardnet, Hekatrix with agonizer, Raider with FF 260 – (2x) 5 Warriors, blaster, Venom with extra SC and grisley totems 312 – (2x) 6 Reavers, 2 heat lances 345 – (3x) Ravager with FF 2000 Only real foot note is that the baron will steal the wracks pain token on turn one. I think I trimmed some fat and built some muscle. The duke’s squad is much weaker, but its also much cheaper, and its scoring. And if I get it close, they still have 2/3rds of the poison shots that the trueborn squad have. But I am still considering finding the points to get the trueborn back, or getting 4 with two carbines and 2 cannons in a venom. The hellions unit is much beefier since it will always start with a pain token. The wracks will become a very low priority scoring venom, and they can go to ground if it dies. I think the two reaver squads are better than 1 reaver and 1 scourge, if not only because they benefit from the duke’s drugs. I need to be aggressive with these units and put pressure on my opponent with them. The worst possibility is that they soak up fire that would have gone to the hellions. I would like to afford arena champions with venom blades in these squads. The third ravager gives me some much welcome tank killing since my blaster trueborn are gone. Plus with no razorwing, there are just more juicy souls left on the table for my units to steal. And after all this finagling, I fit in 5 Incubi in a venom!!! I think this will throw my opponent off guard in terms of target priority. They will either be obsessed with neutralizing this unit, or it will fly under the radar and do its job. Looking forward to trying them out on the table. Lemme know what you think! I’m almost done painting another Raider and will probably paint my second Ravager after that. Pics to come! Peace.

Very interesting glad to hear you are winning games.
Interesting Idea with the wracks, but how exactly do you propose that to work?

Sure, its pretty simple. I'll deploy the baron with the wracks, and then on the first turn, fly him out of the squad and up with the hellions, taking the wrack's pain token to give the hellions FNP. I took the idea from people who will start the hellions with a haemie and the baron with wracks, and then move out the haemie and move in the baron, allowing your hellions to start the game with two pain tokens. My tactic lets me get one pain token in the hellions without taking a haemonculi as HQ.
Made a mistake in the post above; the wracks are not scoring because there is no haemonculus. But thats alright, I have 5 troops.
The one thing I'm worried about is how my tactic will work if I have the second turn. This means that in the enemies first shooting phase, the hellions will not only be missing their pain token, but they will not have their stealth either. Will have to see how that plays out... not too sure people will be targeting my hellions on turn one.

SCOURGE Ever since I got my second box of scourges and assembled my 2nd haywire blaster, I've been itching to paint the scourges, because they are of course beautiful models. I knew that the wings would be fun to paint, and that the models will really pop with all the vials and tubes to paint green. This scourge was, even before I painted her, my favorite model in my army. Even alongside my HQ conversions. I think I really nailed a classic Eldar pose with this scourge, it almost looks more like a swooping hawk. So I spray painted them and got stuck into it. It took me about three hours to paint this scourge, and I'm really happy with the way it turned out. Except for painting eyes, I haven't touched skull white at all for this army, but I love what it does to this model, it flows well off the ice blue and contrasts the dark blue and purple very well. The green also looks nice, I'm trying to think of a way to get some more green on my vehicles... Looking forward to painting the whole squad! 2ND RAIDER I also painted my second Raider! Not much to say here really. I gave it torment launchers just in case I ever want to run them on a Raider. The sail looks better than any of my other sails; I'm getting the hang of the blending method that I sort of developed by accident when I painted my first Raider! Next on the list: -the 4 other scourges -2nd ravager -another 8 man wyche squad After I paint that, I'll have a fully painted 1500 point list with: -baron -4 trueborn w/ blasters in a venom -9 hellions incl helliarch -(2x) 8 wyches in raiders -6 reavers -5 scourges -razorwing -(2x) ravager I got a lot of comments on my paint scheme and my baron when I went to the battle bunker on saturday. Really looking forward to putting a fully painted army on the table. There is a 2000 pt tournament at my local battle bunker on saturday, but I'm going to be at a wedding and can't go. Too bad, would have been a lot of fun, and even though paint isnt required, I might have been able to use it to encourage me to just bunker down this week and paint my whole 2000 pt list. Really looking forward to getting into the tournament circuit with this army. The time will come...
