What causes the tragic affliction when hair and beard are different colours? Are those poor people genetic chimeras??

Most people's facial hair is a different colour from that atop of their head. To me it seems that the lower you go on the body, the darker your hair. The hair on my head is brown, my beard is dark brown, and the hair on my feet is black.

My dad and uncles are all like that. Dark brown hair, but red & grey beards even when they were younger. I think its fairly common.

If it bothers you that much- just watch some of those lame commercials with the retired sports guys peddling thier Just for Men beard color stuff :p

I have light brown hair, but my beard is dark brown, ginger, blond and grey in a 5:2:2:1 ratio. Although I suspect the grey will be edging out the blond soon.

I had red hair when I was younger, that turned brown. So my beard has a lot of red in it.

Yeah, brown hair, ginger beard here. Not sure why it happens, but I shave that sucker off that first chance I get. I'm not taking any chances.

Apparently there are a lot of us with the brown hair/ginger beard combo. I also have blonde arm hair to complete the hat trick of follicle pigmentation.

How much sunlight or other radiation your hair gets can effect color as well. Naturally, the top of one's head USUALLY is hit with more sunlight than, say, pubic hair.

I am now like a tricolour collie
(except I refuse to sniff butts and chase after balls.)

My beard is ginger in the middle with grey on the flanks.
My hair started blond, went dark brown, and is now flecked grey.
And I care not a jot.
As said it is pretty common and stuff anyone who thinks it odd.

In any case, some people pay a pretty penny for highlights and colouring, I get mine for free!

What is this sunlight of which you mention, I know not of this sunlight.

I also suffer from the Ginger Chin...I have dark brown hair, and in the correct light, my goatee glows bright red :/

Yup Im one of them. I have dark brown hair on my head (if I didnt shave it off all the time) and my beard has a boat load of red in it.

Its a light trick. My SKIN is SOOOOO GREEN!!!!!!!!! that it reflects camera flashes a bit and causes a green hue on everything.

Brown hair and a brown, somewhat manly brown beard. Not nearly as manly as KC's but getting there. Hmm thats one manly beard.
My sister noticed about a week ago that my beard is starting to go a bit coppery. Its most noticeable when i stand in decent light. So now she gives me grief about being a wranga...

I have dark brown, almost black hair, and at the moment my facial hair is brown.

When it gets past a certain length, however, it will slowly turn ginger.

The same thing happens with my dad.

My hair is a darkish brown and my facial hair is like jet black o.O
My facial hair grows kind of weird though in a way... when it gets longer it doesn't get a slight curl to it, it just sticks straight out.
