F**K yeah!
Forget Greece, forget planned invasions of Iran, this is the news story that matters. 50 years of Bond with Skyfall becoming the 23rd installment. Surprised this hasn't already been posted.
All star cast includes Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, some French chick, and English chick, Albert Finney, and Sam Mendes directing.
Now I've said it before, I like America (Canada and the USA) and the people that live there, BUT
You can stick Ronald Reagan, Constitutions, Twinky bars, Tea Party, Ron Paul, Sarah Palin, Baseballcaps, bagels, 2nd amendment, Bunker Hill, Jimmy Carter, Texas, John Wayne, Mcdonalds, Hasslehoff, George Bush, P-40 kittyhawk, sherman tanks, pretzls, remake of total recall, remake of footloose, remake of point break, deep fried pizzas, coca cola, 5th amendment, 1776, new hampshire's rubbish roads, etc etc where the sun don't shine!
The greatest nation on earth (England) is back, and it's oozing class, charm, sophistication, and of course miss moneypenny.
Rant over!
PS I know that James Bond has a Scottish background in the books, but I'm overjoyed!

Your not English are you mate.. That "rant" was fething embarrassing in front of our fine American friends.
Also coca cola is good for a treat, Bagels are nice, Bunker Hill was a fething quality battle in which the Royal Marines were awarded a VC, and Mcdonald's has a certain appeal.
That aside, I like a Bond film. I think Daniel Craig is good as bond as well, and Casino Royale was nice and gritty.
QOS was pretty meh though.

I consider myself a pretty big Bond fan, but that movie had NOT ONE redeeming quality. I found myself thinking "What the feth just happened?" and had to read the Wiki page to understand it better...which is strange because Casino Royale was really good...I'm just hoping that the new story will be better and will look like it wasn't directed by someone with EXTREME ADD and Parkinson's

I didn't hate QoS that much as I enjoyed the understated nature of it that reminded me of the Fleming short stories, but I could see where if one is only used to the bigger, more bombastic films it would be a bit of a letdown. I also assumed it was more of a bridge film that was setting up a major showdown with the Quantum group and reintroduction of a certain recurring mastermind in the next film.

Wait, so you make a thread about a cool movie franchise, and ruin it with American bashing? Please slap yourself, itll make your country feel better
Interesting cast line up, I like the first 2 mentioned, in fact Ralph Fiennes, I think is just a badass. One of my fav films with him is Red Dragon. And everybody loved that crazy Mexican hitman in no country for old men, so this might keep going well enough

Yeah, I f==king hate America. That's why I went on holiday there this year, It's why I'll be going again next year, it's why 90% of my DVD collection is Hollywood films, it's... a waste of time trying to explain. If people fail to grasp the concept of tongue in cheek humour, well, it's too bad.
Anyway, back on topic. Just learnt that one of the scriptwriters for skyfall wrote for the Script for Johnny English, and done some work on Eastenders! My initial excitement has faded.

Yes, this.
The problem with James Bond movies is that most generic action movies have basically copied what made the originals so damn good. So the challenge is for Bond movies to break away from the generics in a memorable way.
I suggest more Oddjob.

No, that's Barbara Bach ( Catherine ( Daisy Duke) Bach's sister)...
Personally, I just can't get into any of the "new" Bond's , Connery and Moore will always be the "only" Bonds for me.

Mr. Cossey (or Tula) played the important role of "Girl at Pool" in For Your Eyes Only. Ms. Bach starred in The Spy Who Loved Me (as agent Anya Amasova).
Although I think the best Bond girl would have been Ursula Andress in Dr. No.

Fixed. She's not only transsexual but also intersexed (specifically Klinefelter's with an XXXY genotype), so as you can now see, to call her "Mr." would be especially crass. biccat wrote:Although I think the best Bond girl would have been Ursula Andress in Dr. No.
Eva Green (Casino Royale's Vesper Lynd) gets my vote. An excellent, not stereotypically Bond-ish choice for a film that was trying to bring in new audiences. I can definitely imagine that she might have lured in more than a few artsy, bohemian or geeky types, many of whom might have just ignored the film otherwise. Plus, her character was interesting, too. She wasn't an Action Girl, but nor was she a Damsel In Distress. She was an ordinary, civilian professional, who reacted like a civilian when the gak hit the fan, but was otherwise smart, confident, sharp and in control. I liked her a lot. Here's hoping there's going to be more like her. (...Of course, it also helps that Eva was by far the closest approximation to "my type" of all the Bond actresses. )
Or, if there's not going to be more like her, here's hoping Bond will at least continue bucking other trends. While Olga Kurylenko's character in QoS wasn't exactly one of my favourites, I absolutely loved the fact that there was no romance between her and Bond. It was so refreshing to see a female ally for Bond who wasn't just a disposable love interest - someone with their own agenda and goals beyond Bond. I liked that. I don't want him to stop being a womanising cad, but there's no reason we can't also have young women who Bond sees as off-limits, or who simply won't give him the time of day.

Corrected. Klinefelter syndrome affects human males, not females. While I'm sure we could have a wonderfully interesting discusson on the issue, the fact remains that the actor in question is properly classified as a human male.
As for Vesper Lynd, a lot of the more modern attempts at Bond girls have fallen flat on their face (see the aforementioned Dr. Christmas Jones). The writers were trying to shoehorn in a "modern" female role where it wouldn't fit, leaving most of the girls uninteresting and out of place. While I agree that Ms. Green's portrayal was effective of the character (far, FAR better than Ms. Richards' acting), the character herself didn't fit well.
Then again, I really don't like any Bond movies with Daniel Craig.

I agree with all of this, except for of course Eva being closest to "my type". But then again I also like George Lazenby better than Roger Moore as Bond as well.
