hey i just got skyrim, and i was wondering if i was to start a new game which would be the best race to chose?
on my computer i chose nord, because i have played that race in the past games and there ment to be the "best" at magic and one handed combat
and on my PS3 i chose redguard because of how cool the fluff is.

I was just wondering is there a better race or race combo and what it is?

Khajjit and argonians make good thieves, human based races such as the nord, redguard or imperials make good warriors and elves make good mages.

I wanted to be a theif type so I picked argonian. If I do a 2nd playthrough I'll probably be a nord warrior type doing mostly heavy armor and 2handed for some good ole fashioned brain smashing.

I might re-roll an Argonian Saurus Warrior...

I always hated the change from Daggerfall to Morrowind where they turned Khajiit into ugly-ass cat-headed anthros.

It's one of Morrowind's many, many flaws.

Ive played it for 20 hours and im still confused...

What class am I?! I dont recall picking one, I just run about smashing peoples heads in, setting them alight with spells, sneaking a bit, picking locks a bit, shooting a bow a bit, and wearing whatever armour I fancy, so you actually PICK a class on skyrim!?

I don't think there's any classes, people just use them to refer to a play style I guess.

Aye, although there are no defined class choices, if you put level ups at around 70/30 Health/Stamina, and specialise in Heavy arour, smithing, two handers and so on, you're pretty much playing a Warrior.

I actually do like the freedom it grants to do what you want, almost too much to start. I think my characters will be more dedicated on second/third play throughs.

The only thing I partially miss from the old class system was the bonus points for dedicating skill points to those specialist to your class.

You couldn't really tell, they were slightly pixelated...

Looks of my race don't really matter to me, because I can't anything but my arms anyway. I don't like the 3rd person view, just doesn't look good and my own character gets in my way when I try to aim and stuff.

I started with an Orc sneaky death guy. Then i wanted to try out magic so i did an imperial mage. Next though(because of the new Argonian models) Im gonna make Raptor Jesus. Mainly focusing on resto and alteration but not sure how i am gonna kill stuff...

They looked like furry elven catpeople basically.

So--

Humanoid body, with fur all over, a cat tail, cat ears, and odd irises in the eyes. Like Mithras from the Final Fantasy universe except the fur covers their entire body.

Here's an oblivion mod that reproduces it somewhat (somewhat NSFW), although sadly, this mod is a bit low quality to my tastes-- most of the khajiit mods tend to cater to the furry demographics, and I loathe anthro art.


Not weird and ugly-ass backwards legs with weirdly shaped paw-hands and giant housecat heads atop human necks like they currently are.

Pre-morrowind khajjit looked like elves who all looked like men.

I really miss that level of deep racial individuality.

And yet, according to their official lore ,most Khajiit taht are seen outside of Elsweyr look pretty much like that, elves with tails and cat ears and fur.

It's much better than the catfaced bastards that roam around now against the logic of the lore...

Not a fan of furries either, but sticking a tail and cat ears on someone just makes me go: Look, a cheap ass cosplayer. Which is far worse in my book. So I for one am glad they went for this.

I like my stealthy wood elf class, using a bow to kill things from range, and when something pops out at me, they say hello to my dual daggers

That's disturbing on several levels.

Because I don't. I just hate animal-headed humans, it's one of the most aesthetically unappealing things in the world. Zombies are better. Robots are better. Heck, plant-people are better...

I'm totally fine with animal heads.

Hell if I had my way khajjit would look even more feline.
