Which is funny because Magnus was dominating Russ before Leman let out a wet-leopard growl and performed his legendary "flailed blindly" maneuver.
Let us not also forget that Russ also brought his wolves to fight Magnus with him.
Russ also wasn't winded or tired when he finally fought Magnus, if that is what you are implying.
Oh, and that eye is the source of Magnus' power, the moment Russ flailed blindly and scored a lucky hit on Magnus' eye, Magnus' psyker nonsense on the planet ended, and he couldn't really see so well.

OP it's spelled Magnus, not Magus, and he would obliterate Russ. If you watch the tale of the tape his head obviously wasn't in his last run-in with the kid from Fenris, But I think an exhibition bout between these two would tell a very different story indeed. I give it to Magnus in the third round by TKO, if not an outright knockout, or more likely some kind of peeling Russ's skin off and feeding it to him kind of deal.

I couldn't figure out if it meant a leopard growling wetly, or the growl of a leopard who was wet.
Anyway, Magnus, because not every dog has his day.

In A Thousand Sons the phrase doesn't come up at all, but it is extraordinarily prevalent in Prospero Burns.
Like, the entire book, I simply couldn't take any of the Space Wolve's posturing seriously, because of that, whenever that phrase came up the scene would turn into a circus of hilarity that I could not escape, and surely could not be topped.
Until the end of the book, where Leman Russ' speaking voice is described as a "wet-leopard purr".
I lost it, that was the funniest gak I've ever read in anything relating to 40k, I couldn't even believe I read that.

There's nothing at all wrong with Prospero Burns as a book.
But, you don't see how the Space Wolves spontaneously letting out a "wet-leopard growl" randomly to voice their assent could be seen as amusing, or silly?
Then there is the way it is worded, that leads me to think of a leopard that happens to be wet growling.
And Leman Russ making a "wet-leopard purr" when speaking would be about as silly as Magnus letting out a "Dried-camel neigh" (I have no idea if camels neigh or if that is how the word is spelled).

Not really to be honest... Maybe it's just me, but I find it conveys the deep, rumbling of their voices (the kind of shizzle I'd expect from astartes/Space Wolves), much like a growl itself.
To me, it's like someone grunting in acknowledgement or whatever; it portray's their voices (again, deep and rumbling) and the more... primitive appearance of them. Furthermore, I find the growls of big cats to sound wet.
Again, maybe it's just me, but it makes sense to me. Automatically Appended Next Post: Though, I would agree on the purr part, depending on its context at the time.

I just find it daft that they used big cats to describe a chapter based on large dog like creatures. Surely letting a "wolf-like growl" enter their voices would have been more appropriate?

Whats the deal with all the grammar Nazi's? Is it really that difficult for some people to understand what was posted? Is it really necessary to correct these mistakes?
Alot of people on this forum are young, and so prone to mistakes, or don't have English as their first language.
I know pointing these mistakes out may make you seem extremely intelligent, but is often unnecessary.
Anyway, I voted Magnus, he had to lose. He is the weaker warrior, but is capable of inflicting damage on a much larger scale than Russ.

True, but a lion's growl is quite a bit 'better' than a Wolves ( IMHO at least) whilst the wolf may be a bit too obvious of a simile...
--------
As for the grammar 'Nazi's', in their defence it does educate the person. The OP's flag is English for example so ultimately, I would argue it would benefit him for his English to be improved. It can also depend on how a person goes about correcting another's grammar to be fair. I.e. politely.
Nonetheless, I think Howard highlighted one of the more... minor instances of incorrect grammar in ze OP.

I can claim it with a straight face because Russ was losing the fight with Magnus, despite Magnus using his power for things other than fighting Russ, as well as fighting the wolves Russ brought to back him up.
Magnus has a single eye, that just happens to be the focus for his psychic power. Once it was stabbed/gashed, Magnus found himself blinded, and his psychic power disrupted (Not completely mind you, Magnus' arm was still psychically regenerating after it was injured by Russ). Magnus granted has a physical weakness other Primarchs don't. It was also one Russ hit completely by accident.
DarknessEternal wrote:Except he couldn't. He threw all his psychic oomph at Russ and it just washed over him like water off a duck.
Right I guess that having your heart punched through, having a psychic mind blade stab through his chest, and being scalded and blinded by Psyflame is "washing over him" huh?
Funnily enough, the first thing Magnus was shown doing in the fight with Leman Russ was breaking open his armour with a blast of cold fire.
I'm not sure why people feel the need to lie and be disingenuous concerning the fluff.
