Subject: Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Thoughts?
Personally, I'm very pleased with how the game is looking. Don't get me wrong, I loved the original games. However, the one thing that always irked me about them was the game mechanics. They were just too slow-paced for me. This is what comes to my mind when I think of trying to survive in a city of undead: fast-paced action, something which I felt Resident Evil 2 and 3 just did not deliver. To each their own however.

My feelings are mixed. On one hand I like the characters and setting (raccoon city just never gets old to me), but I'm not liking the whole "respawn" bit. Resident evil was always about being tense, no matter which game you played. Now it looks like you can just keep dying and coming back without any real ramifications.

I'll probably enjoy it about as much as I enjoyed Left 4 Dead; I'll think it's a mediocre game but enjoy myself because my friends and I are having a good time playing it together.
EDIT: Holy crap, I injected so many Southernisms into that sentence that I had to go back and rewrite it.

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.

This is probably only one of the things I'm unsure of.
The abundance of ammo and health will also make a difference, judging from the Gamespot preview, health (or herbs anyway) is quite abundant.

I'm just glad Basic zombies are back. All those face splitting gun wielding monstrosities were getting well....complicated in the story.

Well I'm not huge into Resident Evil backstory, but isn't wasn't their 3 different viruses....?
The "T" Virus, the Las Plagas, and ouroburos (Spellling?)
And I know the last 2 had nice stories behind them in RE4 and 5..........(Never played the first 3 or so games.)

Las Plagas was a parasite.
The three 'big' Virus' in the series were the T-virus, the G-virus and the Progenitor virus. (The more recent incarnations of the game have mainly featured Las Plagas and Ouroboros. Although Ouroboros is a virus, it was destroyed by Chris and Sheva in RE5)

Apparently it will be available for Xbox 360, PS3 and eventually PC.

Plus the dialogue seems so hilarious cheesy "Bad guy" I can't get behind it (the stuff the characters say during fights/inbetween etc).
If it's fun though, I'm getting it. I like Resident Evil, I like undead, I like shooting.

Very excited for this. RE:ORC is among my top 3 most anticipated games this year. I'm relatively new to the RE universe, having only jumped aboard with RE5, but I loved it.
Unfortunately, I doubt Sheva will be making a return this time around. And I really dislike Leon's character design. :(

Leon looks like an anime character in this one. And he has been by far my most favorite RE character.
I laugh at how good the games are in comparison to the movies.

I like this, but I would enjoy it if it were like a Battlefield or CoD style type of game. Not a clone of Battlefield or CoD with zombies, but faceless characters and more customization in terms of classes. They have a lot of potential with USS because its a privatized group where money equals equipment so customization in terms of weapons, armor, gender, etc is great.
Keep the squads of four people but maybe have a squad versus squad thing going on. Squads of spec ops or RCPD vs USS with zombies running rampant. It would be a lot like Army of Two's multiplayer gameplay where two teams of two had objectives(defend and attack) with loads of NPC's shooting at both teams.
I would like it if it were a 32 multiplayer game, four squads of four versus four squads of four with zombies screwing everybody up. That's just me though.

Really? You say that like thats not just how movies from games work. VERY rarely does a game to a movie actually turn out good.

It didn't help that a bunch of them were made by Uwe Boll. The game looks interesting, but I don't get games on release so I am being cautiously optomistic.

You're thinking of Paul Anderson. Uwe Boll wasn't involved with the Resident Evil movies.

Hey mate I am map maker which is comparable to a game designer, except we got no fancy equipment we have a java and a small group of nerds. To date I know this for a fact. There have been no good games that have come out of the movie franchises. Except for Starwars, LOTR and TRON (1st game). Surprisingly only one move that was from a video game was... Wait there hasn't been one sadly that is even remarkable.
Resident Evil the movie series fail
Capcom's Resident Evil ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE. Unlike the fail movie series.. *sigh*
I've hated the Resident Evil movies. Its a blasphemy on the genre. Its not scary. I love Resident Evil 1,2,3,4, But I hated 5. With all my soul and all my heart. It was because of Shiva, and the fact it was the same as the last game...
At least this one is putting you in the shoes of Umbrellia. Lets kill some STARRRRRRRRSSSSS

I agree that the movies have been a bit of a disappointment and that Resident Evil 5 was basically a cinema version of the game.
However, I have to say that I really enjoyed Sheva in RE5, I found her backstory to be very interesting and her character very compelling.

I would hate 5, but I had such a good time playing Co-op through the game. Sheva is only annoying when you play 1 player, and she doesn't do anything

Yeah, I knew he didn't make the RE movies, I guess I should have been more clear. I just bring Uwe up since he made some of the most soul crushing interpretations of the IP. The first Resident Evil movie didn't make me want to set someone's house on fire. I think if the makers can get back to what we liked about the first few games (giant mutant/undead monsters with a smattering of zombies) then I may well buy this shortly after it comes out. I personally didn't like RE4 and 5. Mainly because they just didn't feel like RE. If they had just named them something else then I wouldn't have an issue. I'm just glad we are getting virus laden zombies again.

Hmm... the eternal dilemma for a franchise; change too much and the old fans won't like it, change too little and more fickle fans will abandon it.
Duke Nukem Forever kept true to its roots with all of its gameplay, even running around and it was deemed a failure despite being almost exactly like the original Duke Nukems that everyone wanted to be done for next generation consoles. The Sonic franchise is suffering from changing too much from the original games.
So even though people say that they want the original RE gameplay, they may be incredibly disappointed when they realize that nostalgia sucks.

halonachos wrote:it was deemed a failure despite being almost exactly like the original Duke Nukems
No big boot Limited weapon carrying capacity No duel wielding, this especially when you see the pigs doing it
It might have been similar to the older duke nukems, but not in the ways that mattered (to me anyways)
But they don't know what matters to everyone, some people may have loved the fact that it didn't allow dual wielding except for the weapons that required it. For some people the look of the enemies is important, for others its the look of the main characters, and then there's the numerous gameplay mechanics involved. Some of the people don't like the fact that you can now run and gun in this Resident Evil and some people like it.
Just because it doesn't matter to you, it doesn't mean that it doesn't matter to someone out there.
