It occurred to me I've not done a BGII game in a while, then it occurred to me that multi-player would be far more fun.
If you don't know what Baldur's Gate II is, go sink your head in vinegar.
If you're interested, post here!
I'll probably be a mage.

BG2 had multiplayer?

Yes, a bit clunky but it functioned in the end.

I was a bad mage in multi, and generally just aimed AoE spells at my warrior allies.

Never tried multiplay on good ol' Baldur's Gate II, how does it work? like normal gameplay but with players controlling one character each?
I might be interested in trying it, depending on when and at what time(zone).

Yeah my very first MP game I fireballed myself and the other guy to death in an instant...whoops. If you practice lots you get pretty good with those things though.

It's a lot smoother than some of the replies here would suggest. It's like normal gameplay, you control your own charectors, etc. You can make additional charectors, or just use NPCs (I would definitely prefer the latter, doesn't feel like Baldur's Gate unless Minsc is by my side). The host delegates control of these other dudes and that's pretty much it.
I am GMT (soon to be BST) which is only a couple of hours off you so we could probably do something if you wanted to.
Let me know if you do and I'll do a clean install since my copy is full of mods. Depending on your experience, we could probably make use of some of them, thinking specifically of the Ease-of-Use mod. If you don't want to though, or you can't be arsed, it's no biggie.

Righty, I'm well versed in the gameplay and controls, never used any mods though but if there is some mod that you preffer having active that are not too hard to get and fix up I guess I could go for that.
Though vanilla is good enough for me.

I guess I would be playing a thief(Swashbuckler)

Do you have any suggestions on when? I got a pretty flexible schedule so I can usually shift stuff around to make a particular time available, except during the day on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and (usually) Saturdays.

I agree on keeping Minsc, no party is complete withouth some -kicking (for goodness!) and a miniature giant space hamster.

Would be nice if we were atleast 3 players, so we won't have to micro-manage half of the party each, or is it still possible to pause in multiplayer? in that case I guess it won't be too bad.

You can still pause in multiplayer, it's actually pretty easy to play. The load times between areas are longer than usual, but that's to be expected, and it's not too far. It's just modern computers load it so quickly in single player anyway.
I will have to look up if the mods are compatible in MP. In fact IIRC everyone uses the host's game...but I wouldn't swear by that.
Micro-managing isn't really a problem, since we'd have Minsc (tank/pack mule) and Jaheira is a powerhouse once you get two-weapon fighting and give her scimitars, also her romance storyline is pretty cool. Though if you wanted other NPCs for whatever reason obviously that's cool.
The mods that I want to use are periphary, they fix a few bugs and make things easier, iirc removing the 5 limit on potion stacking, things like that.

Damn, I wish I could stay at home all day long just to play Baldur's Gate 2 :(

Could I import my Paladin from BG 1 ? I swear only his Cha is 20 (which I think is moot, since the game doesn't seem to account for certain bonus anyway)

You can import your charectors, yeah. There's even some Easter Eggs that are only available for imported charectors.

Oh, I know I can import, I just thought that having a STR 19, WIS 19 etc etc Paladin could be a little over the top.

(this from the time I played the 1st two or three times to get all the Books over and over)

BG2 was the last of the "great" games that didn't care for such things
Strength is irrelevent since there's a plethora of items that SET your strength to a certain level, culminating in the strength 25 hammer thats name escapes me.
And wisdom as far as I'm aware has no effects whatsoever...

The Crom Flayer or something like that, the most kick-ass hammer of all time Joey. Korgan + Crom Flayer = Goodbye sanity

As for my player char, my favorite is a Halfling Swashbuckler. I hope you are meaning for us to play from the get-go to god-hood

You still get banter with the NPCs.

Can I hijack your thread slightly and ask which game would you recommend out of these
BG2
Fallout 2
Icewind Dale
Planescape torment

I dabbled in BG2 waaay back in the day but never got into it really.
I've done a bit of digging and like the look of ID the best and am drawn to the more classic fantasy RPG elements than something like F2.

Any recommendations welcome, bearing in mind I consider Morrowind one of the best rpgs ever made (i.e. do any fit that bill?).

Baldur's Gate II, by far.
Comparing Morrowind to any Infinity Engine game is like comparing the rock of Gibraltar to Jupiter.

I'd say, play all four. All of them are great games that absolutely deserve to be played. Torment, BG2 and Icewind are very similar in many aspects (D&D rules, how to play, etc) but on completely different universes (Ok, Icewind Dale is in the Forgotten realms, same as BG, only in the Frozen north).

My top would be Baldur's Gate, then Fallout, then Planescape.

Dont have time for all 4 though Im afraid, just want to pick up an oldschool RPG and take it easy with it the odd evening

Im still leaning towards ID, good call?

Morrowind is a wash when it comes to gaming. Basically you steal anything useful. Then you change the Creeper's money so you can sell him nice stuff without waiting ages, then you create Levitation Shields and runs around beating up gods, werewolves and you name it as a Telvanni Grandmaster and Nevervar. Brilliant game for creating Dark Eldar characters. Dagoth is simply the best first name of any male Dark Eldar.

I actually like Fallout 2 very much. There like IRL you doesn't control the NPCs following you 100%, so they can be irrational at time (very much all the time). Still I'm a tad tired of RPGs were you have total control of every party member.

As for Baldur's Gate2. I would recommend you cheat and add the Golden Pantalons Joey. Then we can later bicker whatcha think the pantalon-set should be used as.

If you guys were looking for another player, I could be down for it. Are there set times yet? What patches are you running--fresh from the box?

I've yet to get any contact details from anyone though so I can't see how this would happen...

Outside the DarkTower, amongst the roses.

Is the multiplayer like how the multi worked in never winter nights 2?

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

Not entirely. It still uses an isometric viewpoint and DnD 2.0 rules (95% sure I'm right on that one).
