Hi guys.
I've been out the warhammer loop for roughly 8 years. A group of mates have just started playing 40I but have now decided to restart playing fantasy.
However we are all waac players (sucks I know but were all uber competitive)
we all pickled straws to decide on what any to play. My mate won and has gone for ogre Kingdoms so I'm expecting allot of cheese.
I've got second pic of the armies and I can't decided between the stronger armies.
Skaven is a possibility but the idea of painting and moving all the troops puts me off.
I am a huge fan off magic so rules out dwarfs
So that leaves me with vc DE or daemons (unless there are alternatives)
Our first game it's in a fee weeks and will only be 1000pts. But we will eventually go to 2k (it's that still the average game size?)
Money is no real issue so what is my best option for a waac army to go against ogre's (cheese is allowed)

Run Shadow or Death as your main lore against Ogres. Both really screw them.

Daemons if special characters are allowed. Fateweaver is terribly broken. Most of the time if someone wants to play me and is using fateweaver/teclis I'll just straight up refuse. Sure there are counters to them, but if they are the type of player to take them, they're not the kind of player I like to play.
If not, de is still good. The VC crypt horrors unit of doom can be quite good if you have enough invested in casters.

At 1k you won't be able to take Fateweaver, but you can take a Tzeentch Herald with Loremaster. Pretty nasty all around. Stick him in a unit of Horrors as a caster bunker.
For combat units you want Bloodletters.
Daemon units should, whenever possable, be led by a herald of the appropriate god as he buffs the unit. Bloodletters get Hatred and Daemonettes get ASF. Not sure what the other units get.

Does the following look like a sensible list. Leaves me 25pts spare for items
Heroes (115pts)
Herald of Tzeentch (115pts)
Core (756pts)
Bloodletters of Khorne (378pts)full command
Pink Horrors of Tzeentch (378pts) full command
Rare (105pts)
Flamers of Tzeentch (105pt)
Total 976

Your well under your flamers cap of 250 points. I'd probably drop some blood letters/horrors (5 of each) to get more flamers. Automatically Appended Next Post: Blood letters won't be nearly as good as they can be until you have a herald in there. But looks good so far.

No reason to be rude and insulting. If he's not playing you, there's no harm in Waac players. If he's found a group he can do this with its even better.

Go with BM, Bret, or WE and when you win you will be 5x more satisfied than with an "easier" army.

True, Ogres can't really do much till they hit 2k. And your typical tournaments are 2-2.5k so everyone hits their stride by that time.

Not to mention that I can now rub feces in the faces of those guys who always claimed only losing because of my army. Feels damn good.

I hear you.
I don't think WE's are as bad as people claim, they just require a different mindset.
Also let's go back a year, and see what people were saying about Ogres - which were not a bad army by any means, they just suffered from pointless limitations.

and there all valid points, however i felt my postion was slightly different to the normal which army should i start, which is best etc. Are gaming group is 4 close mates that used to game together back when we were in secondary school. We have all grown up now (school was 13 years ago lol) and all have various everyday life responcabilities. Out of the blue we have decided to start playing again with the new 6th edition release of 40k. That is our main interest (sorry to say) and we all enjoy playing it. We then decided at the start of the week to restart playing warhammer again but due to time and money constraints (of the other 3) we felt it was best if we created our army lists around WAAC lists (or net lists / cooki cutter etc) as a) potentially save us money in the short term b) not wasting money buying potentially jank units c) fantasy fluff doesnt apeal to us we just enjoy the game system.
But since none of us have played warhammer fantasy for years we wanted to do new armies that we havnt played back in the day (Ogres wasnt even about back then). My mate decided to go Orges for that reason and set about preparing his list, then it was my time to choose. I did plenty of reaserch but there isnt a vast amount out there that suited my criteria. Alot of the tactic threads (not just on this forum) we alot of guys asking random questions or posting there opinions on units etc. which is great if you know what there on about, alot of it just went over my head.
So i felt it was neccasry to create this thread as i effectivly wanted a conversation with someone regarding my situation, i didnt want it to become just another random what army should i go thread.
i understand alot of people dont like WAAC or net list, i hate them in 40k (which is why we dont play them) but for playing just in our group it would be nice, and gives up the optunity to play against some of the power lists that are currently floating about incase we ever did want to enter tournements.
I'm confused at the idea of a WAAC ogre army at 1000.
It due to our eventual aim of being at 2k-2.5k points where in the WAAC will become apparent. I know the Orge player is using 2 mournfangs in his 1k points list,

Those are hardly a cheesy unit. They are way too expensive to be worth it for the sniping ability.
Poison Pistol-eaters Scouting behind your lines are much scarier just because of the hidious amount of melee damage they do.

You can get two units of 4, barebones, which in principal could do the job if you get the charge (but are essentially chariots) - or maybe 2 units of 3 with +2 save.
But you are right, other than that you'd get a character and 6-8 bulls.
I'm not saying it is rubbish, and on the charge against T3 infantry it could be unstoppable, but it is hardly WAAC.

If you go for daemons, I'd skip the flamers now. With the new update, they aren't that great.
Try some fiends. They are cheap, so fit well in a 1k battle, but can still fight small units and warmachines, etc. Great redirectors too. 2 units of 1 would likely earn its points back.
