Say the Emperor does become a Warp God and destroys all the dameons/chaos gods in the warp but also sacrificing himself in the process. Which current/new race do you think could take chaos's place as the biggest threat? Orks, tyranids?, necrons? dark eldars? tau? splinter imperium faction? others? and why?

Ork fluff has mentioned that Orks are the largest faction in the 40K universe, and it's only their constant in fighting and lack of central leadership that prevents them from over running the universe.

That's what I figure. Orks would be the next big thing, then Nids after them.

Tyranids and Necrons are the two biggest threats besides Chaos, so one of them, but I'd prefer Tyranids, at least until someone fixes the damage Ward dealt to their fluff. Orks aren't the biggest threat, simply because I am confident that they will never unite. Period.

Orks. Nids got nothing on Orks. Extragalactic radio comms are pretty much just filled with orkish chatter.

The Tyranids- counting those outside the galaxy- quite possibly outnumber the Orks in this galaxy (I'm not counting others, because Ork space travel is awful and they won't be coming here from anywhere else). Also, the Tyranids in-fight less than Orks, and are probably more tactically capable.

Tyranids devore and move on. I can't see them maintaining superior numbers over a race like Orks who are prolific.

That aside, considering the newest fluff, Necrons should probably be the biggest threat to the universe. Anyone who can tangle with the old ones is probably a huge threat.

Wat? Ork space travel is essentially "There's a bunch of us? We teleport - THROUGH DIMENSIONS AND IGNORING THE WARP AND THE 4TH WALL ENTIRELY - to wherever the battle is.

Tyranids outnumber EVERYTHING in the galaxy, but they're wicked slow and Orks just don't give a damn about numbers.

Orks were created by the Old Ones to be the perfect species, that even the Necrons couldn't threaten on any significant level. There's an old snippet about a planet-sized ork rumbling with 'wild' ctan on the edges of the galaxy.

I don't where your getting this from. Orks travel through the Warp, in hulks and on Roks. Where ever they land they invade and multiply.

If your responce was tounge in cheek, disreguard my responce.

I think it was Gorkamorks, could be ork codex, it's been a while states Orks outnumber everyone else. Unless they changed this in the last Tyranid codex.

Sounds like a defintely Orky legend.

I don't know how they Necron fluff fits into the equation, but the dissapearance of the the Ork Brain Boyz severly diminished the threat of Orks on a Galactic scale.

On an amusing note, it's funny to see people claiming Tyranids as the Galaxies greatest threat in one thread and how completely noncompetitive they are in another.

The Orks might outnumber everyone else, taking the totality of the Orkoid population into account, but not every Ork can get on a Rok or a Hulk and go somewhere else.

Also, the Orkoid presence outside the galaxy was, iirc from another thread on these forums, somewhere lost in Warp beyond page 3, determined to be a misquoted GW fluff bit that has since been blown out of proportion by fans.

ETA: That said? Tyranids or Necrons.

If I have to choose between Necrons and Tyranids, I'm going with Necrons.

Tyranids can't eat Necrons, and have no use for the dead worlds they inhabit. Tyranids also don't have a battle plan other than steer towards food.

If Chaos is wiped out, the climactic battle is likely to spawn a whole new threat.
Even if the Chaos gods are destroyed, and the psychic backlash kills off all the cultists, etc, Something will probably coalesce from the raw warp.

Even if the Orks and 'nids are the most numerous, the Eldar and Dark Eldar would benefit from the absence of Slannesh, and stop running and skulking.

If the Emperor destroys the Chaos/Daemons and he dies too there could be a psychic backlash that rocks the warp maybe killing all psychics and crippling alot of the races that rely on that power. Thus Necrons will rise.

Space Marines will be the bad guy. Like a government and military that gets too powerful, loses touch with the people, you know, that kind of theme. There will be a rebellion of the IG. Kindof like the rebels in star wars, and Space Marines are the Empire. Paint them white and they even look like storm troopers. Maybe even unlikely factions will ally to defeat these evil Space Marines.

Tyranids vastly outnumber everything currently in our galaxy. If Chaos were to get stomped, then Tyranids would step up the big bad mantle.

However, Chaos being "killed" would result in something else being spawned in the warp, though Eldar and Dark Eldar would benefit significantly from the absence of Slaanesh.

When did chaos become the main antagonist?

The main antagonist is the Imperium (yes, against the Imperium itself). After themselves, the next most threatening antagonist is Orks.

Chaos is, at best, a very distant third and arguable Tyranids are ahead of them.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Fluff says that pretty much everything is in the process of destroying humanity, it's just a matter of time. Pretty dull really, all the fanboys of the xenos races want to be told how deadly and powerful they are, so GW pander to them.
The exception to this is eldar, which is a shame since they're space elves and actually pretty cool.

According to the 6th edition rulebook (the newest Tyranid fluff) they do. Untold billions of hive ships each containing billions of Tyranids equals a lot of bugs.

Elves are badass. They're pretty cool in WHF as well. I have no idea why GW nerfed them when they put them into space.

"What is Chaos? Suffering, you might say. Oppression. Deceit. But could not all these things be said of your Imperium? You hunt down the talented and the strong-willed. You break them or sacrifice them. You lie to your citizens and wage war on those who dare speak out. The inquisitors you call masters assume guilt and execute millions on a whim. And why? Why do you do this? Because you know Chaos is there but you do not know how to fight it, so you crush your own citizens for fear that they might aid the Enemy. The Imperium suffers because of Chaos. No matter how hard you fight, that will never change. Chaos exists in a state of permanent victory over you - you dance to our tune, mortal one, you butcher and torture and repress one another because the gods of the warp require you to.
