Bat Manuel wrote:The prices of these Relic Knights vs. what they are on the Sodapop website are a pretty good deal.
Not sure on this. As I said previously, the metal versions of Hasami and Fiametta cost $24.90 from the webstore or plastic ones from this Kickstarter, $25. Remember, all the Relic Knight models are metal, resin, or a mix. What this Kickstarter is offering is plastic versions, significantly cheaper to produce, but we are not seeing that with their pricing. For $10 SW gave you x2 of the same size models as these making RK over x4 the price!
I'm not sure this Kickstarter will even make it to the $200k mark. I think CMON have really got their pricing wrong on this one. In addition (and I know its early days) there is little information on the models. Al the model pictures for the faction sets are showing their metal / resin models. Is the plastic one the same pose? Quality? What's the 'Playmat'?
It's almost certainly true that some model to model comparisons are going to come out as better value for money. As noted above, comparisons to the faction boxes come out well. With other things, these extra packages, it seems they are laying options for expanding them (I too find them somewhat pricey for what you get).
Personally, I'm experiencing a bit of Kickstarter fatigue: I pledged for Sedition Wars, the Tentacle Bento homebrew Kickstarter, and feel that supporting Tre Manor's Red Box Games Kickstarter is important. That's a non-trivial amount of money to lay out, and so far I haven't seen any product: while I'm excited to see the sculpts from Sedition Wars, it's a little disconcerting that the pledge manager to finalize what we're getting hasn't even been put out yet!
That said, I think we can't really get into the habit of comparing every Kickstarter to Sedition Wars. That project was designed from the ground up with economies of scale, and was based around a very usable, if slightly generic, sci-fi trooper. So in terms of just weight of miniatures alone, I don't necessarily think the comparison is fair... or really useful. I mean, 50 sci-fi troopers is something that has a lot of utility (40k, Infinity, Warpath, etc); an extra 10 catgirls? Uh... I dunno.
As an aside, the relative values of "success" and "failure" here are rather amusing. I should think Tre is wishing he could be so unfortunate to cap out at $200,000! (Seriously, go throw some money at him, link above.)

I completely understand people wanting exactly what they want to appear as stretch goals, but being upset over the SDE is just... silly. It's not some mystery why they are included, nor some spiteful attempt to harsh the buzz of their backers, but an attempt to a) bring in more business, and b) satisfy the apparently large number of people backing this that do want SDE crossover. If you thought you were getting fair value for your pledge, then you were getting fair value.
On the other hand, this is all quite refreshing, reminds me of when I used to read the Warcraft forums, and the PvP players always complained when the PvE environment got some fixes, and vice versa. No one ever seemed to cotton to the idea that not every part of the game had to appeal to everyone for improvements to be good... good times, good times, gamers the same all over, heh.

People made a big deal over nothing, so KS pulled it.
I ended up funding it through their in-house site (it ended at a little north of $50k), and I have to say, their communication afterwards (and, come to think of it, during) has been pretty infuriating.
For example, at the main pledge level, there was a tee added. If you didn't check their facebook page, they never let you know (say, via the email you used to pledge...) that you had to select a size during a 3 week or so window or you get a male large by default.
They ran their in-house campaign in the most bizarre, lackadaisical fashion, and it simply puzzled me. If I were them, I would have been promoting the heck out of it and really getting it to be an about-face for the company. Their posts were few and far between, the details sparse... I'm interested in a few models from this Kickstarter (RK), and I remain very hesitant to do business with them in this fashion. I'm thinking waiting for retail is how I'm handling them in the future.

Actually, Deke used packing up and sending out those and one of the reasons the rules pdf took so long. The promo models were at gencon as well so they are confirmed to be produced.
I have no idea if anyone has got theirs yet but it seems to be late in the fulfillment cycle.
The word is they will be shipping "soon", so... no, they have not delivered on it. Last communication I am aware of, they haven't received their own shipment, but will be shipping it out once they get it. Time will tell.

Question: If I only wanted the Serpent Priestess, and Void Herald, how would I go about doing that?
Would it be minimum pledge ($10 for a Lithograph), then $10 for the Snake lady, then... uh, $30 for Void Herald? So just pick "Doing My Part!" ($10) level and put in for $50?

You can only purchase items at a minimum pledge of $50 (Mercenary level). At that level you get a Faction Starter which you can forfeit for $50 credit and then add any other goodies you want for the appropriate prices.
Huh, interesting. Ends up at $50 either hey it seems. Thanks for the tip!

We're hard at work here at Relic Knights HQ and new sculpts and art have started making their way to us. They're looking so awesome that we naturally had to share with our loyal backers. First up we have one that we know many of you were curious about when we said we'd be reworking her for plastic, Calico Kate!
As you can see, she boasts a number of refinements from her first sculpt. Including newly bulked up legs and arms to better withstand the constant use of gameplay. Plus a great new battle pose! This is just the first of the updates that we'll be releasing over the next several months as we march towards release date next year. Stay tuned for more!

The Twelve Days of Relic Knights: Day Six
Update #67 · Dec. 19, 2012
You remember that time? You know that time your mother dressed you and thought you were so adorable? Ya, that time. This next sculpt is dedicated to moms everywhere. We know your heart was in the right place and we love you all the more for it. May your holidays be full of cheer.
On the sixth day of Relic Knights, Santa Soda gave to me -- a second Doctrine Novitiate who is in a really bad mood but secretly loves his school uniform, is going to hit those books hard and become the most power codifier ever, don't you dare tease him, oh the joys of high schoooooooool.
Face looks 'off' again.
Plus - clown shoes!
Glad I passed on Doctrine, so far...
I... wow, really? Really?
That's just so odd looking... I thought doctrine was supposed to be a mix of like Harry Potter-esque stuffy boarding school look and medieval wizard look. This is just clownish. I mean, even in the "song" they refer to his "school uniform". Is it clown school?

The holidays are serious bidness and that means you need a serious soldier. No one excels at the serious art of war better than Black Diamond. In honor of these stone-cold, guns for hire, lets have another verse.
On the seventh day of Relic Knights, Santa Soda gave to me -- a Black Diamond, Black Dragon, the elite of the elite, seriously these guys are so elite they could kill you will their pinky, never mind their state of the art power armor and weaponry, yours if the price is riiiiiiight.
Very nice. Quite happy to have gone with Black Diamond.

(but they are the least 'unique' of the potential minis from the KS, being 'just power armour' humans so I'm finding it hard to get too excided about them....)
That's a very good point: I went for BD is because a) I happen to like the military/police aesthetic they have going on, and b) if I ended up not liking the game itself, they seem like they are the figures most likely to be able to be blended into other game systems.
There would doubtless be some scale issues, but I could, for example, see using those Black Dragons in an Iron Core game, say.
Very few of the other factions seem to have the "cross-purpose" nature, as near as I can tell. Although if you consider using them in fantasy, Doctrine and Noh, and I suppose the mostly pirate miniatures, could be used in Warmachine for example. Hmmm... just had an idea for using the Corsairs for Cryx pirates....

We're in the home stretch now! This next verse should be sung very softly lest you catch its attention. Believe me, having the attention of the Noh Empire is the last thing you want.
On the tenth day of Relic Knights, Santa Soda gave to me -- a Noh Empire, Serpent Priestess, beloved voice of Nozuki, bewitching your mind with her serpent's tongue and rending your soul with her flashing blade, the grinch has nothing on heeeeeeeeeer.
I'm really glad to see how the Priestess came out: she (along with the Void Herald render) tipped me to finally backing this project.
Heh, my only complaint with my two choices (Noh and Black Diamond) is that I can't use the Marie-Claude figure with them! I think...
Also, in case anyone was curious about its fidelity to the concept art;

Like our last rules update this is a text document that is prelayout. What does that mean? It means you can play the scenarios to your heart's content and then submit your feedback to us on the Soda Pop Forums. We'll continue to pore through every thread and use your input to help us refine the rules further.
By the way, you can see some other shots on the artist's dA account (http://hecm.deviantart.com/). He also did some KD stuff, including Beyond the Wall!

The saddest part really is the short to medium term effect it will have on the game: momentum is a very real thing, and they may have just killed it.
With this revised estimate for shipping, it's entirely likely that a number of anticipated products will be beating SP to store shelves/backers: Kingdom Death first and foremost among them. This delay will also hang over their heads like a cloud, with anything they do come out with over the course of the majority of the rest of the year prompting the question "oh, so was this what you were doing instead of...?"
Not nice, not fair... but not unexpected.

The Reddit is over, with... some questions of note answered (I guess?).
Spoiler:
Hello everyone! We'll be doing this Reddit AMA from 3:00 to 4:00. We wanted to start out with answers to several questions we have pulled from Kickstarter.
Q: What is the relationship between Soda Pop and CMON A: Soda Pop Miniatures is a design studio. Cool Mini or Not is our publisher. SPM creates the game and miniatures. CMON handles the manufacturing and distribution of our games.
Q: How many miniatures and which miniatures are already mastered (most miniatures I've seen so far have been just computer renderings)? How many molds and tools are already finished?
A: 107 models. All the masters are finished. These masters are currently in the hands of our manufacturer undergoing the tooling process. They estimate 3.5 months to have the molds ready.
Q: When will your supplier start/ finish production?
A: Production will begin as soon as the molds are ready. Tentatively estimated to begin in July.
The production process takes 3-4 weeks.
Q: When will the miniatures be shipped to you?
A: Once the products have been manufactured, product is shipped to the CMON warehouse in Georgia. Typically, a separate shipment is sent to a warehouse in Europe. Shipping takes 6-9 weeks, depending on customs and weather.
Q: When will the miniatures arrive at your warehouse?
A: Assuming that the shipment leaves China in August, then we expect to receive it in the CMON warehouse sometime in October.
Q: When will you start shipping to us?
A: Once in the warehouse, product will be mailed to Kickstarter pledges immediately.
Q: What is the status on the rulebook? What is the staus on the cards?
A: The rulebook and cards are all laid out and in the final pass for editing. As soon as the final edits are made, it will be available as a .pdf download for all KS pledgers. All print product will produced concurrently with the miniatures.
Q: What is the status on the tokens?
A: Tokens are designed and will be manufactured at the same time as the miniatures.
Q: What is the status on the playmats?
A: Playmats are designed and will be produced at the same time as the rest of the print product.
Q: How do you plan to inform the backers about further project progress?
A: Will continue to post updates on the Kickstarter, Facebook, and (once the new site is done) our website. We will be posting models you have not seen, plus newly painted models.
Q: Why the delay in communication of the delay? You must have known for a while?
A: After we delivered the miniatures (and posted the update to that effect) we were told that it would take longer than the initial estimate. It took several weeks before we knew the extent of the delay. We posted the update to Kickstarter the week we knew the full delay.
Q: How do you make sure that there are no additional delays? A: The game is complete. The models are mastered. With no additional changes, we can rely on our manufacturers to deliver on their quotes.

Hello everyone,
We know you are all patiently waiting for news, thank you so much for your support with us through this process,
To ensure that this project is delivered with the quality expected both by us and by you, we are doing final quality checks on the production. To give you a sense of the massive scale of this endeavor this production run encompasses the 272 page full color rulebook, and over 210,000 boxed products with almost 500,000 miniatures, plus all of their game cards. Needless to say any error at this critical stage is something we are being extra careful to avoid. We want nothing less than to bring Relic Knights to neon blasting life.
In our review, we have encountered a problem with our base inserts and tokens which are in need of some tooling adjustments to get them done to meet our quality expectations and obligations to our kickstarter backers. While they are finalizing those elements, we are taking that time to address a few sizing issues with final packaging we caught at the last minute. After these final tweaks are done, we should be able to begin assembling your individual orders and getting them out to you and will update again when we begin.
Thank you again for your patience. Like you, we are extremely excited to have the Relic Knights universe brought to our tabletops - the models are pretty much done, so please enjoy this video of the production models, almost the entire range is in this video, be sure to watch it till the end!

There are a lot of bent spears and guns, but there is also an odd look of things being hurriedly assembled: the Marie Claude cosplay looks like her head is put on with blu tack (as does the Serpent priestess' arm), and a number of the figures seem to be listing dangerously to one side.
