Going to have to convince my team mates to put on their big boy pants and hang with the big dogs. Some of them want to bug out because of the dual FOC but I think they can manage.

Oooh, I like the way you guys have done that. I will try and have a team out there again as this is the most fun tournament I have been to!

Currently Play/Own
= 3500 = 3500 = 4000 = 2500 = 1000 = 500 = 3000 = 2000 = 1000 = 2500 = 1500

Revised the post above. You can't have the same mix in a team. Posted the wrong info from an earlier thought.
Thanks for calling it out!

MAJOR RULES/COMP ANNOUNCEMENT! PLEASE READ!
DOUBLE FORCE ORGANIZATION HAS BEEN REMOVED!

We want the ATC to be the best it can be and to represent the game systems as true as possible, but we also have to listen to the community and keep it fun and competitive at the same time. As a result of MANY concerns and MUCH anxiety, we have made the decision to NOT include Double Force Organization as a part of 40k this year. Our decision to include it was based on the idea that we want the game to be what the rulebook sets forth, but in review our decision to drop it hinges on the thought that perhaps this rule is more for the casual play of the game and we have had our eyes opened to too many possible list abuses to allow it at this time.

Again, we have Removed the Double Force Organization from The ATC 2013.

Thanks guys - I hope if anything, this proves that we listen to the community and respect your input very much!

The restrictions on allies seems a bit much and seems to favor armies that will not take allies. Is this really the most competitive format?

It doesn't favor anyone really. The restrictions go in line with the spirit of the event which is to prevent duplication and make people play to the strengths and/or weaknesses within each army to prevent hard match ups for opponents.

To be honest, I found it rather interesting to see imbalanced armies performing better than others just for the fact that they would get the right match up thanks to good team leadership and decision making.

I did not say it favors anyone - it favors armies that don't use allies. There are around 16 races - some of them are much better allies than others. I think the restriction on allies is taking it a bit too far and will end up undermining the overall competitiveness of the tournament.

Just throwing it out there, how about an exception for ‘Nids with the whole Ally thing? Not suggesting allowing them to Ally with themselves, just making them a desperate ally for everyone.

Your argument doesn't make sense. Thay would be the same as saying that you question the competitiveness of the event because you can't take 2 of the same army.

The point is that yes, there are better armies for allies but you have to work in an environment where you have to make hard choices. That is what makes this more of a challenge as players have to work outside of their comfort zones in terms of allies and armies.

I think you mean to say that some players will have to work outside of their comfort zone. All teams will face the same challenges but I don't think that necessarily adds anything to what is promoted as a very competitive event.

It is a very competitive and extremely fun enviroment. If by fun you mean a captivating, enjoyable bonding experience. It is really on a whole other level from a GT in the first place. However not using allies takes nothing away from it. Tyranids was on the winning team last year.

The original point of the codex restriction was you couldn't have all 2,3 or all of any one army. By allying you can create a duplicate of an army. This is a competitive event, there is no comp or sports. At least I enjoyed the first two years immensely and I don't remember any. Favorite army or something and Best Painted but that was it.

It is more of the anti 6th edition attitude we are seeing from some TOs. The restrictions don't make it more competitive... It's to appease those still living in a 5th edition mindset.

If you're criticizing the event for the restrictions on allies (when there is zero precedent in the rulebook for how to play a doubles format) because its "anti 6th edition" and a "5th edition mindset", how can you then support/promote what are essentially comp changes which the core rules flat out say no to based on nothing but your own feelings of the fact that the 6th edition core rules treated nids unfairly in regards to allies? Isn't that an anti-6th edition attitude in and of itself?

Personally I say the rules look great, the allies restrictions are interesting and look as good as any alternative I could think of, and will try to make the event (this year or one of these years). Thumbs up on moving it to a more accessible location!

You're right, it is a team format following a predisposed formula that has been used for the following 2 years.

Your conjecture that this is just another case of Tournament Organizers curtailing the principles of 6th edition is not only untrue but without base.

The entire point of this event is to pit teams against each other with players who do not use the same codex in any regard so as to add a level of difficulty and variety. That variety is why this event draws such a large number of players and will continue to do so.

Having everyone be able to ally with whomever they choose would go against the spirit of the event and leave people wanting of what they have come to expect.

I think your restrictions on allies are too strict and will end up making the event less competitive in the long run. You'll probably end up seeing a high percentage of armies without allies which to me is a shame. I want the best for the ATC and offer this as constructive criticism. I also think you should allow double FOC as well.

Dozer Blades you are either a troll or you just don't get it.

In the first two years of the ATC you could not have more than 1 of any codex among your 5 players.

If you allow allies you can duplicate two lists making your 5 armies really just 3.

It goes against the spirit of the event. No one wanted to see a team of multiple Space Wolves or multiple IG before. Not allowing allies will prevent abuses and encourage variety. There was plenty of variety before 6th was released at the previous two ATCs.

Take it from someone who has been there twice already.

As an aside to Shinkaze's comment, competitiveness has *nothing* to do with the rules and everything to do with the average delta between players. Allies and army list regulations have NO Impact on competitiveness.

The ATC uses a competition style that is not traditional 40k, and is predicated on a very different style of army list than "bring a singles list for a singles tournament" As such, while constructive criticism is good, I think most fans (and most people ARE fans) of ATC would hope they don't take that particular line of suggestion. It's not that there's also anything wrong with allies or double FOC ... only that they probably fit less well in with the nature of what ATC's style is.
