What's wrong with unpainted pewter mini's?
With some of the deals you're getting them for < £2.50 each, which is what GW charges for plastics.
I've got 2 sets already (Brotherhood and Vampires) and the figures are great, I've also read the rules through (not played yet) and it looks good, pretty straightforward, good missions, campaign play.
And 2 playable Queen Victoria minis.

for many it's the physical quality of metal and working with metal. The worse part is paint does not bond to metal nearly as good as it dees to plastic, and dropping a painted metal mini always results in a disaster. Then there is the issue of drilling and cutting for conversion work.
Some people love metal , swear by it and hate everything about plastic.
And then there are plastic lovers.
I am a plastic lover, look forward to the day it is extinct from the hobby. I tolerate it with Infinity.

This game is top notch. I've really been needing to get around to them as well. Better time then any.
Wst winds is really a good compnay, they have several good to excellent games, SOTR, Berlin or Bust, and Roadkill are some of my favorites from them.
This game is great in that you only honestly need a faction or two to go it alone. They have a Necromunda feel to them, and the characters that they've come out with so far are really good. Meat pie Mr Chomps, Hyde, Sherlock Holms, VS Jack The Ripper..... mmmmm.... tasty treats.
I'm in, too.

Looking very nice. I like that it's got room for completely or relatively mundane things like plain Bobbies, those are bound to be useful for other uses, not just wargaming. The horse drawn wagons on the stretch goals, doubly so.

Everyone seems to be making 32mm Steampunk games nowadays.
Wyrd had it, MicroArtStudio has Wolsung, SpartanGames has their 100th game or something, Battlefoam has their Malifaux+Warhammer thing, and now WWE is making Empire of the Dead.
Whatever happened to Deadlands anyways?

EotD I believe has been chugging for a while now though, they just want to expand it more rapidly
Though tbh I would have liked a revival of Dwarf Wars. Get it back on the map and stuff

Steampunk has definitely been the flavor on the internet and in miniature gaming for sometime now. It seems to only be getting more popular. Just do a search for steampunk on kickstarter or indiegogo. Flooded with games, movies, cards, pictures cook books.
It is rather excessive but if you really enjoy it, like the zombie craze you are in your glory. I do wonder if it will crash and fall one day or will be a staple?
Empire of the Dead has been around for a little while, about a year I think. So it is not really new.
By the sound of it, Empire of the Dead branched off from West Wind's vampire wars... is that right?

To be honest, I actually rather enjoy it. So long as all the Steampunk games remain around the same scale (32mm), it's great for the modeller in me. Even Warmachine models occasionally look good enough to go alongside other lines.
I was not aware Empire of the Dead was around for a while. If it's been there for a year, it's not surprising that many haven't heard of it. Regardless, that's the point of a Kickstarter!
I personally am in love with that Reaper model.

It's semi-popular over at TMP.
Though you hear a lot about the not so mega popular games over there like GW and PP games.

I believe Andy Cooper developed it as a whole new line. The fact that there is some Vampire Wars crossover just helped West Wind to get to where it wanted to be: new ruleset with a full line already available and supporting minis for police and civilians.

After a lot of faffling about, I went for it. :-) This will be my first Kickstarter pledge, and I'm reasonably stoked. I went in at the £30 level + PDF rulebook, but depending on how the rest of the campaign and my finances go, could switch for the £75 one to get more of those lovely, lovely new releases. Especially liking the bobbies.

It's also worth noting that another KS exclusive figure has been unlocked for £75+ backers (so that's 3 now), with another being unlocked in another £2k.

There's something off in the facial expression of that lady, and I wonder how she could realistically handle a pistol with crazy rings/claws/pokers like that, but hopefully it'll translate into a good miniature.

Using the pistol isn't a problem once you get the claws in there. It's drawing the weapon and then reloading that's the challenge

The stretch goals for the vehicles are pretty good though.
2 Hansom cabs for £30, 4 for £40 (£25 each RRP, £20 each KS)
Fire engine & Vampire carriage for £30 (£25 each RRP, £20 each KS)
I'm assuming the free stretch figures will have some in-game use as well, and to be fair at free limited editions you can always ebay off the ones you don't like to get something else

There is more then just the butterface can-can figure there.
They are expanding the game to include vehicles. They even have an H.G.Wells time machine in there. ( Looks like the one from the old clasic movie.)
I have to wait a week or two to get in on it, but I'm a really big fan of this one. (Yes, the art isn't all that great, but the figures are great, and they can be used in other ranges as well if you need some for that Steam punk theme. Then don't forget about those figures over at Reaper. They have quite a few wierd west stuff that would go great along with this one.
After getting into the rules set, it is really easy to add in additional one offs, or home made stuff. Aside from the added bonus of Jack the Ripper Vs Sherlock Holmes, You can add in stuff from other compnaies such as victorian civilians, some of those figures from that Micro Ars Studio steam punk game, along with that scenery stuff they had.
Love thier horror stuff too. They are missing a couple of those Burke and Hare type body snatchers to go along with the Victorian zombies, or something along the lines of Vincent Price and Peter Lorrie figures is some of thier old school Hammer films.
I really love this game, by the way...
