Well, I posted an April Fools day topic that rapidly got locked. I still, despite almost 300 posts, consider myself something of a noob, to dakka, so I'll just ask this. Is there any place on the forum where joke posts are appropriate?

Obviously, I'm not talking about deliberate hoaxes that might cause real trouble, but just a joke (possibly in the spirit of April Fools Day?) that might give people a quick jolt, but that would become obvious as a joke very shortly, and cause no harm.

If not, no problem. I'm really just curious as to whether the problem is that the post was a joke, or the forum in which it was placed (News and Rumors).

Off Topic sub-forum, maybe. Depending on the nature of the joke, 40k Discussions sub-forum has had it's share of silly threads.

This site gets more humorless and inept every single year. A couple years back I would post an April Fool's thread and it was mostly met with enthusiasm. Last year the "no fun allowed" brigade appeared when a few people posted joke threads (including me) and this year it looks like they won out for good.

Pretty unfortunate but hey that's how it goes.

I think they've decided they don't want false info, regardless of jokes or not, in the News and Rumors section.

Signal to Noise ratio and all of that.

If one of the ones posted today was actually original or funny, it'd probably slide.

Perhaps that's why the Privateer Press one is still up. That one took a little effort and is silly.

I don't think it's a case of not getting into April Fools, that thread and the one or two similar ones that have popped up lacked any merit as either a prank, joke or any surprise. At best it was a stale, still it's not to say it shouldn't happen.

I can get into it, but with funny stuff that actually has a grain of originality.
A thread that consists of a statement that "GW has gone bankrupt and it looks like they might have done it wrong" followed by a URL shortened to look official isn't actually funny, nor did it appear to take any significant amount of effort.

Yeah, I seem to remember being more silly when I first joined Dakka mind you that could be just nostalgia or I've been on here long enough that there's few topics that are original.
