Hi All

I have been very interested in adding some warp spiders to my DW army as allies for a while now, and decided to wait for the new codex to come out, but the wait is killing me. Does anyone now anything about the Warpspiders in reference to the new codex ie. points costs (don't actually post them, but maybe hint at the amount etc.), force org swaps and that type of thing.

It would really be appreciated, thanks

They'll be 14% cheaper, (at least base cost) come with Hit n' run, Battle focus (run/shoot) and replace the jump pack with jet pack. Statline will stay the same, but no idea about the weapons. (Apart from the exarch getting twin linked, instead of double shots, which from a points perspective is overcosted, unless they've been turned into flamers )

All of it is burried somewhere in the rumor thread here or on Bols, can't recall which one.

Will they still get jsj? They seem completely different from before :(

The rules seem to imply they will at least be just as good as previously, and potentially cheaper.

Unfortunately the models remain the same.

Also interesting to see if the deathspinner gets this monofilament rule, and what that does.

Well Blood of Kittens has a leak of the points page for Warp Spiders, they're now 19pts a model (down from 22pts)

They have Battle Focus, like everything else we've seen (maybe its an Aspect Warrior rule?), but no Hit and Run USR and the Exarch Abilities have been cropped off so we can't see them. Everything else is the same however.

Interestingly they have the Warp Jump Generator listed as wargear as well as being Jetpack troops. This might of course mean nothing but who knows?

This will limit their speed and usefulness when compared with the current rules in which they were rather unique.

Well Battlefocus means they can run AND shoot, if the rumours are correct. That would mean that their movement is 6"+1d6"+2d6", so averages only 3" less. Also, being as you can Run after deepstriking, it allows you to reposition if you scatter off somewhat or alternatively turn the 2d6" after firing into 3d6" after firing (if the rumors are correct). So not all doom and gloom.

Sounds a bit strange to me. ''Battlefocus'' seems new and unique to Eldar.

Is battle focus the one that means you can move and shoot? And if that's the case it seems all good. I really badly need anti infantry for my DW and these guys seem to fit the bill and I like the models quite a lot actually.

Any chance of them being troops? That would make my day and the main reason I haven't used them before. If it means taking a special HQ, then no probs, I'm cool with that.

EDIT: Double Post

Move and shoot? That's nothing new if the models have the right weapons. I guess its run and shoot.

Well, I did crazy things with Warp Spiders like hunting MCs or stepping through a swarm in one turn. With jet packs and run and shoot, this will become a bit more challenging.

From the rules, it seems like they get a lot of plusses for a bit of movement decrease. 6"+D6 rather than 12" hop. We will see what warp jump generators do (maybe a longer assault jump?) but they seem to be overall buffed.

Battle trance is an interesting mechanic, but overall it doesnt seem very eldar-y. However, its not bad for a rule buff to make the army better.

Well, i'm hesitating to field Warpspiders since they are too vulnerable for my liking. Hello Helldrake or whatnot.

Warp Spiders were probably my favorite unit from the current codex. I'd love to see them get a little more range in their attacks.

So you hesitate to field a unit that is killed by the flier that can kill anything in our codex well? Not sure i see the logic in that. Warp spiders have been in about 50% of my tourney lists and only one game they have ever been eliminated the turn after they dropped. New iteration will probably play well into my playstyle since i love MSU.

Battle trance should be REALLY nice with deepstriking. You can correct a bad deepstrike. you can get rear archs, you can get farther away.

Seriously? It seems very Eldary. Eldar are meant to be the fast race. Now their infantry have the ability to move, then either shoot and run or run and shoot, or assault, with fleet. That makes the the most reliably fast infantry in the game, while being about to maintain firepower while on the move.

Again, very Eldary.

It isn't the helldrake that stops me from using WS most of the time... it is the bolters. Bolter fire mows down WS like nothing.

20 bolter shots kills 3 WS. If they are in double tap you are doing something wrong.

In the former edition(s) I battled with my Eldar other Eldar armies with 2 or 3 units of Warp Spiders. My mech Eldar army got always on top. In fact, I'm not really impressed by Warp Spiders. There are so many things out there killing them.

So I've looked around a bit, but Warpspiders don't seem to be gaining a lot of attention on the net, which is making it difficult to find out the one thing I am most interested in.

If someone could please answer is it at all possible to make them troops in any shape or form? And also if you can, do they even do the same thing as before?

Somewhere in the dark...

They now get to use their jump generators for a 6+2d6" move in the movement phas if they wish - can still lose a random model tho. Plus run/shoot and then use their jet packs in the assault phase. They are ap1 on rolls of 6 to wound and plus 1s against anything i3 or lower and vehicles. I love them this edition and will always be taking at least 1squad.

Plus one what? Sorry for the dumb question.

At the moment I'm primarily looking for fast, anti infantry, and they sound good. Cn the exarch still buy two guns and fire them both?

Sorry, plus 1 strength. The exarch dual spinner is now just 2twin linked shots although he can get an exarch power giving him an extra shot. So 3 bs5 twin linked shots...

Imo, these guys are super fast and great against all types of infantry and light to medium vehicles. They can now even glance av13!
