I'm thinking terminator armor or chooser of the slain for the divination rune priest.

Give all of your grey hunters a special weapon, and take 10 unless your priests are riding with. If you have a full 10, you can take a second special weapon for free. Also consider wolf standards.

WG terminators or regular WG in a pod would make a nice addition.

I can only add, it you take the Special Weapons make both Spacial Weapons the same. I know it is tempting to take the Flamer to get a Free Plasma Gun, but then your Grey Hunter pack will loose all of it's Focus.
I would also mixe You heavy Weapons in the Long Fangs. It ads flexability that not even Missile Launchers can give you. I generaly run 1x Heavy Bolter, 2x Las-Cannon and 2x Missile Launchers.
You might also thing of giving one of your Rune Priest Divination.

I've added wolf standards and a meltagun to each grey hunter and came up with a template for the wolf guard, but I don't have enough points for the drop pod.

WG are as follows:

5 wolf guard W/ terminator armor

- 4 combi-weapons

-3 power fists

-1 chain fist

-1 cyclone missile launcher

259 pts

entire list is currently 1729 pts, 21 left, 35 needed for a drop pod

What is the idea behind the long fangs in razorbacks? Where are you taking them? I would have thought the idea is to just put them behind the ADL.

Terminators might be good in a drop pod perhaps?

Thoughts on changing the wolf guard's power fists to wolf claws to make room for the drop pod?

To be honest, One drop pod is Bad! Those Wolf Guard are going to be isolated Slaughtered Especially without Storm Shields.
Pod SPAM or no Pods.

This is my simple Changes I would make.
Rune Priest:
>Take one of your Rune Priest, Shove him in Terminator Armor and place him with the Wolf Guard, Add 1 Storm Shield.
>Place you second Rune Priest with the other Long Fangs with Divination, Possibly with Master of Runes. Make him Your Warlord and let him work the Quad Gun.
Wolf Guard: Keep them Cheep, Keep them Simple.
>Place the Cyclone with one of the Long Fangs.
>Don’t bother the Power Fist; Leave them with their Power Weapons. Take Melta-Bombs and Power Mauls for Anti-Light-Vehicle, Power Axes for Anti-TEQs, MC's. this will save you a bucket of points.
>Think about Combi-Weapons
Grey Hunters:
>Pod or Rhino the Full 10 Model Grey Hunters with twin Melta Guns and thier other Gear.

The idea is to put one of the rune priests in a rhino with the hunters, so at least one squad should be 9.

I'll up the other 2 squads to 10 and footslog the wolf guard

the other rune priest would stay with the long fangs, so divination might be a good idea, but im worried about losing murderous hurricane / living lightning.

I know, MH/LL is a great Combo, but I general only take one Rune Preist with Divination tacked on to my One Long Fang Pack and usaly still Dominate the Game.
The only one that is better is Njal, but He Cost.

With the Pair of Rune Priest think about two Chooser of the Slain

considering that 1850 seems to be the most common limit at the moment, I could just add a 3rd rune priest with divination to make the limit

That works to, I have never taken 3, but I have seen 4 out there, just rememeber Metla Bombs count as a "Diffrent Peice of Gear"

With the wolf guard, am I right in saying that combi-weapons are more important than close combat weapons?

Well Remeber you get a Free "Power Weapon"
If you are going to Foot Slog, you might want to stay with the Storm Bolters.
If you Pod I would go with the Combi's as with the Terminator Armor Bolt Guns become a 12" Storm Bolter and Poding in you only need a 12" Range.

Depends on thier Job.

Most Eveything Else: Plasma-Guns

I'm currently looking at 2 groups of 9 hunters and 1 group of 10

would giving the 2 9 man squads plasmas and the 10 man squad 1 plasma and 1 melta be a good idea?

probably going to have more meltas in the wold guard though.

I find mixing the Special Weapons in one Pack is usualy a bad thing. A double Plasma Gun Pack though has done wonders for me.

That is a personal taste thing. I personly love Plasma.
As foot slogers though you may never get Melta's off.

This list is very 5th Ed. I don't mean that to be a slight against the OP, it just hasn't taken in consideration the changes between the editions.

I would drop the terminator squad unless the intention is to add Wolf Guard Pack Leaders to the other infantry units.

To the Long Fangs I would utilize split fire and add a few lascannons to each squad. (a CML WG Pack Leader would fit nicely here as well)

I was a huge fan of the MM/HF speeders and thought they were invaluable in 5th Ed. With the low popularity of AV14 currently, CML/HB might be a better bet for those speeders.

well, I started playing during 5th edition, stopped for a while, and have picked it back up again, maybe that's why the list seems a bit dated.

personally I don't like lascannons on long fangs because of how expensive they are.

I love the speeders to death, they either cause a lot of trouble or divert focus from the rest of my army.

dropping the wolf guard might work, but then I have no elites and am somewhat lacking in special weapons without them.

I have found them very good. My "Go To" Long Fangs are a 1x Heavy Bolter, 2x Las Cannons and 2x Missile Launchers. With the attched Rune Priest with Divination it has turned out to be a very unsfull.

overall, I'm kinda happy with the list, things like the long fangs or speeders can be tweaked at any time.

but I really need to sort out the wolf guard, if I even run them at all.

I would not run the WG as a stand alone unit. Look to them to buff the other squads as leadership boosters, special weapons additions, and bullet catchers. I would not even worry if they dont fit in the dedicated transport. They are still useful as mobile cover.

They are not expensive for what they do anymore! that was my point in saying that the list does not take in consideration the changes in editions. plus one on the damage chart is a big boon and you still have the incredible reach.

the thing with pack leaders is that I would have to cut down on my grey hunter numbers, but thinking about it, if I don't give them terminator armor, I might be able to squeeze in another grey hunter squad.

I have been having issues finding a place for my Wolf Guard too and I have been Playing Space Wolves since 1989.
Wolf Guard Pack in Power Armor: In Power Armor they can be great, like Vanguard Vets or Sternguard without the Special Ammo, but they quickly get expensive. Though combined with a Wolf Priest or Ragnar they can be devastating, the trick is getting them where you want the. A Land Raider Crusader or Redeemer can go a long way to do that, but that becomes Expensive again.
Wolf Guard Pack in Terminator Armor: Not this is where I have been finding their sweet spot. Compared to other Terminators they are Dirt Cheep, until you add in the cost of the Drop Pod to get them where you need them quickly. Now the Drop Pod does almost guarantee a safe landing and some minor fire support. With Land Raider Crusader or Redeemer you can add Logan to the equation and a full 5 Model Wolf Guard.
Wolf Guard Pack Leaders: I had been finding them unnecessary. When I Pod in I don’t need the LD8 mostly because of ATSKNF, even if I have an issue they have a long ways to go before they leave the board so they usually regroup. That and buying 5 just to get a Cyclone with my Long Fangs do not work well because what do I do with the other 4. To arrange them for my Grey Hunters when I am running a Gunline I need to spend extra points to arrange for a Bolt Gun, Combi-Weapon or Storm Bolter. Then I have to at least buy them a Power Weapon because they are going to be involved in a challenge, making them even more expensive.
Wolf Guard Battle Leaders: Now I have been finding them to be a viable option to sort of act as Pack Leaders. Take one with Saga of the Hunter and then Outflank with a Wolf Guard Pack or Grey Hunters Pack for some real Fun.

I would say if you want to play with Wolf Guard, Go for it, but find a Job for them and build them for that job. If you are planning taking more than one pack, just Get Logan and make them Scoring Troops. You can get away with “Tactical Terminator” builds, but if you do so, you need some Storm Shields out there just because of all of the AP2/AP1 stuff that is out there.

Make a for fun Build, mine is a 13 Model 1,500 point Logan-wing with Njal in Terminator Armor, Arjac and Björn, I can take it to 2k with a pair of Land Raiders. It is not competitive, but man it is fun placing a Land Raider Redeemer, a Land Raider Crusader and Björn of the field and going “I’m done with my deployment.” It is even funnier when you make that Re-Roll to Seize the Initiative and it comes up a 6. Worth the Expression on your opponents face.

I think i'm gonna go with the wg being pack leaders.

just thought of putting them upfront with a storm shield, so they can just soak up fire for the hunters.

having done the maths, i cant afford storm shields, the extra squad of hunters and standard wg leave me at 1660/1760 dependant on whether i take the third rune priest.

i have 3 ideas though.

1. ditch the adl and upgrade the wolf guard storm shields

2. downgrade the adl to an icarus lascannon and get combi meltas for my wolf guard

3. change the grey hunter special weapons to meltas and give the wolf guard combi plasmas.

I like all three
