I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, but on todays Beasts of War output they are doing a DZC weekend, and they announced 4 new starter armies, the resistance in resin, and the 4 other factions in plastic.

The Scourge and UHM are the forces from the two player box, and the other two get full plastic starter armies of a similar size, with three ships/gates, some infantry, transports and tanks.

Dave said the retail is £35/$55 per box seems about half the previous resin cost, so it may make this a bit more accessible, and they will be available at Gencon.

I'll have to have a look at what you get in the PHR one. Some day, when the rest of the industry stops being such a disappointment, I'd like to go ahead with my plan of using their walkers and fliers as UAVs and droids for 28mm.

Plastic DZC? I'm glad I put my purchase off, looking forward to that!

Ive been buying the scourge half of the starter set on ebay anyway, seems logical to release it seperately (although I would dearly love plastic minders/prowlers)

Welp, that's me in then.

Had the book for a while, this brings the barrier of entry down sufficiently (not that it was especially high, but, you know, budgets) that I can't really say no to two starters and running some demo games.

Played a couple demo games last night and decided this is a game I could definitely get into so this is good news for me.

I'm glad to hear the news that they're expanding their plastics. I don't think the game is for me at the moment (maybe that'll change with the spaceship version) but I really like the effort and thought that the company puts into their products as it really shows.

Good news indeed. DZC has great rules for games; the only drawback at the moment IMO is the army lists are a bit limited in scope, but given how new the game is that's hardly surprising and given just how much stuff they've come out with for Resistance it's clear David isn't short on ideas.

Well I'll need to buy a PHR, Shaltari and Resistance plastic starter just because.

Plastics are, if I recall correctly, an expensive investment. I love that Dave is putting his profits back into the game in a positive way that opens it up to more players. Not bad for an operation that literally started as a guy in a small apartment for two years.

To be honest, I think the game required these plastic boxes to grow any further. Not because it's a bad game, but because startup price is such a big deal when there's so much competition these days.

After you get these starter units it fills out the core army so well that you can just buy the more expensive units, or even get a second starter to have a well rounded basic army.

That's me to. Bought the starter set. I wanted PHR, and Shaltari, but when I saw that each box was $100 each, I scratched my head. I look at starter set, I look at each box then I look at the GW section. Damn, I never thought I would ever say GW is not the expensive toys in town anymore.

DZC is a good fun game, but it's not cheap. They make GW look cheap now since DZC stuff in what 10mm scale and smaller but costs about just the same. Can't wait for the plastic to come out and hopefully we will see actual savings.

Massive savings - In UK prices, the new starter sets are now 60% of the price of the old ones.

Or, to put it another way....

You can now buy a UCM, Scourge, PHR or Shaltari starter army for the price of...

A Space Marine Predator tank.

I'm so glad they made plastic starter sets.

For most minis games, I hate plastic as I prefer the quality of metal, but for this sort of very small scale game? Absolutely. Hawk's Resins were over-detailed if anything, since every vehicle's undercarriage was detailed to the point of uselessness. Why do I care what's UNDER my tank after all?

By doing plastics, they reduce their pricepoint by so much as to make it look like a great prospect.

I'm going to see what the new book brings, since I'd love to do a combined UCM/Resistance force, which is said to be playable. I love the idea of John Connor's guys rolling around with a few meager reinforcements from their liberators.

Hell, plasma technicals escaping from PHR pretty much is Terminator's opening, isn't it?

Does it seem like the gunners on the technicals are oddly large for the rest of the model? Maybe it's just the pictures, and is probably not an issue on the tabletop.

We actually asked about that on the DZC forum. Simon says that they are to scale if you measure the models. The Technicals just look off, in particular, because they are sci-fi fuel efficiency vehicles and are a bit smaller to begin with.

Hmm. Nevermind, then, lol.

Going to post these here for anyone interested. The first video details the plastic starter sets and basic game background with the creator Dave Lewis. The second is all about the new faction with a great look a the models, some info on the rules, and a look at the new book.

I really wish companies would stop going to Beasts of War with this stuff. You don't need to dilute this kind of announcement in two and a quarter hours of video.

So long as it's announced elsewhere too I don't mind. The FFG Armada release info was great - a bunch of solid info you could read through in a couple mins, but I also wouldn't mind a couple hours of BoW waffliong on about it too ; p If I had to choose, the concise news release well in advance like FFG did would be best, followed by BoW waffling, followed in distant third by GWs "BUY THIS STUFF WE'RE RELEASING TOMORROW BUY BUY BUY!"

Okay, looks like I'll be starting this game now.

The lack of good plastic starters and me liking Shaltari/ PHR the most are what has been keeping me out so far.

For the price, I'm not that impressed by Hawk's resins, 3d print lines are still visible on some of the models.

The plastics are brilliant though, so I'll be getting a Shaltari starter or two as soon as they're released.

A lot of people play locally too which helps.

Shaltari hey. They're nice and unique and I can see why you'd like them but while I don't dislike them, their dropships freak me out ; p

Sometimes it's great to hear it from the horses mouth. I mean you just want GW previews and excitement? We actually have someone who cares, is passionate about minis and goes into great details and people still complain. I guess it just isn't GW. No matter what anyone does, someone will always complain.

This is a video for people who want great long explanations. While I thought it was a bit long myself, I am sure many people appreciated the time and effort it takes to do something like this. Plus the guy had to jump on a plane soon and could have relexed before going on a long flight, but he spent his time to make his fans, his customers happy in an interview for his insights on his up coming products.

Heaven forbid to make your customers/fans happy.
