Inspired by paradigm's review I just done my own review of the $6 Sci-Fi Tanks from Tehnolog, the company that brought you Robogear and the Platformer, Hexagon. Chemical Plant and other modular terrain sets. Pretty impressive little vehicle for the price of a burger.
http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2015/02/six-dollar-tanks-from-russia.html
I tried to be pretty thorough and included construction hints, resolving the kit's few shortcomings and comparison to a Leman Russ.

Overall, I'm very pleased with them. A friend and I split a box of 10 and I'm definitely looking forward to fielding a platoon of these.

Nice review! I need to actually get around to doing something with my own one!

I literally just got in my 10 this morning.
I agree 100% with your assessment. I would note though, that a Leman Russ is a heroic scale vehicle. For 40k purposes.. yeah, this might be short.. for most other uses though, it's scale fine. Really though, if you're playing friendly games of 40k it should be fine as well.. it's a cheap proxy.. have fun with it

I also got in touch with the person that actually made the tank.
There's a newer version coming out. They're waiting for some sort of money issue to be resolved.. didn't ask.. but from what I saw on their website, it looks like it has a similar body but a different style turret.. more like a Hydra.

Good to know. I'd definitely like to see more in this style. Any link to the page with the new design?

I agree that the size of the tank is just fine for gaming with heroic or true-scale figs. The footprint is a little small (though the height is spot-on) compared to current MBT's like the Merkava and Abrams but who knows what size tanks will be in the future? The pic with the Russ is just a an obligatory comparison to a tank that most everyone knows the size of.

I'm going to use mine with the the 28mm scale "Mech Attack" games that our club occasionally does and that I run at conventions.

I like the sound of that. This one is great, perfect for Chimeras (just use the smaller turret), the Missile Tanks and Hellhound types, but it's not great for the artilery style stuff. If they can do one with a more boxy-turret, closed-top Wyverns/Bassies/Griffons/Hydras ect could be very easily doable!

Great work, thanks Eilif.
any idea how it would scale up next to a chimera?

Here's a pic I found (not mine) of one compared to a predator.

You're very welcome!
According to the #'s on Dakka ( http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Scale_Model_Kits_for_40K ) the Chimera is about a cm wider than a Russ and half a cm longer. Doing a rough comparison to the numbers in my post, compared to the Chimera, the Russian Tank is probably about 1.5 cm less in length and width. I'm not sure about height, but it's likely , shorter as well, especially if you use the small turret in place of the large turret.

Nice review, $6 for a decent looking tank, I'm going to check it out, once I get home.

Remembered I had one I was thinking of using as an Immolator.

Looks really good. I think the plow front has more of a 40k look, but either is fine.

I just saw the replies asking for the link, sorry about the delay

http://souldark.ru/magazin/Netshop/Tehnolog-robots-and-vehicles/

You can see it in the banner. There were pictures in the news section I think.. I don't see them anymore though.

EDIT: Also, their ebay account has some really cool sci-fi guys.. Urban something or other.. would love to pick some up but I'd like to see a review first since they're so finely detailed..

Thank you for the link.

More than a decade ago, I used to have an Ebay store and was in talks with the manufacturer to order wholesale direct from Russia. They were pleasant, the models were great, but I could never get definite shipping quotes out of them at the time, so I eventually lost interest.

Now I'm happy to just order what I want for my own gaming needs from their Ebay store.

I'm really impressed with how the tanks slide together without the need for glue. It makes me wonder if GW could try a little harder in their model designs to make easier to assemble kits.

Hmm, it it is, I see easy Hydra/Wyvern, and/or Razorback/Immolator if you combine it with the current hull!

Are you sure that's the next 28mm tank? It could be a pic of the 15mm version they used to make that had a lot more weapon options.

Well the current one looks to be an upscaled version of the one in the middle column, so perhaps the plan is to eventually embiggen all three designs eventually.

Spoiler:

I'm pretty sure those are pics of the 15mm tanks. Note the 4 prong plow front and the comparatively wide tracks.

I wouldn't be surprised (and would like to purchase them) if we do see more 28mm tanks based on the 15mm tanks, but I've not seen any yet.

I was the one who originally mentioned that the banner design was the mk2. I suggested that after having a conversation with the site owner asking about that kit. The conversation led me to believe that it is in fact the design we see in the banner whether 15mm or 28mm.. whether the original was in 15mm is irrelevant, it's the design. Super Tank Mk2 at this point is being held up by funding at the caster. Also, as per that conversation, when the kit comes out the price won't be $6 anymore. It will be more but Ann did not specify how much more.

Good to know. Hope they work out the issues with the caster. I wonder how much more expensive the kit will be. Even if it was double, I might pick up a few, but we definitely wouldn't have bought a box of 10 like we did.

OK, Sinful Hero, here you go.

I apologize that my collection is unusually sparse on 40K figures . . . I don't even own a single space marine. I also regret favoring the inches side of the ruler - my American upbringing showing - but the metric side is still visible and it should be fairly simple to figure out the metric measurements from the images.

So my selection of figures is esoteric, but hopefully still useful. I'm also including a comparison shot with a Gundam Mech I just assembled for my son, just for fun and in the spirit of the thread.

Left to right: Mantic Enforcer, Studio McVey Kara, Mantic Rebel, Mantic Martian. The first three miniatures are not on bases.

Left to right: Rackham Therian Golem trooper, GW Skaven Warpfire thrower

Left to right: Heroclix SWAT, WOTC Stormtrooper, Heroclix Predator

with Mantic Strider Mech

with Mantic Deadzone scenery terrain tile

with Gundam 00 - Gundam Astraea Type-F 1/144 Scale HG Model Kit No.62

Thanks for the pics!
I'd linked to Paradigm's review in my blog post, but I'd not seen Vermonter's review before.

I'll add this pic also from the blog post. When assembled per the instructions (the tank on the right), there's a gap between the inside of the treads and the lower section of hull. I tried moving the hull up a bit (tank on the left). I it covered the gap and looked a bit better IMHO.

I haven't measured, but the height adjusted tank on the left is probably very close (still a touch short though) to the height of a predator.

I assume you clipped the pegs and just glued it in place? I gave my son 5 from the 10 pack but I might do this on the 5 I have left.
