With the coming of the new eldar codex, having seen peoples reactions and been wanting to use my eldar aspect warriors for ever. My only problem is that according to the attitudes of some forums me mentioning that I play eldar will mean I am refused games, and shunned for buying a codex written so badly. However I feel the aspect warriors, Phoenix lords, and Wave serpents have all been done well, and I plan to use them.
Firstly would you guys play this sort of list even though It's eldar?
What sort of competetive rating would this be? e.g competetive, semi-competetive etc.
Have you guys seen a suitable Avatar proxy anywhere, the Games Workshop one looks too short and I'm worried if I use the FW avatar I'll be labelled as a modelling for advantage player(It' taller)

people refusing to play you because you are playing Eldar are people not worth playing in the first place. You can bet that they are going to be picking the best from their codex so don't worry about it.

If they don't want to play you and the army YOU want to play with then you are better off not playing them, its a load of garbage they would try to dictate the game to what they want and be completely inconsiderate as to other memebers of the community wish to play with. Not every Eldar player is going to take advantage of the new book and even then I feel that people are completely overreacting . There are many types of TFG and refusing to play someone because you took units or a race you like qualifies them as one of them. Play what you want and don't worry about what anyone else thinks because for every person whining and complaining about the new Eldar there will be someone willing to play you who either is up for the challenge or feels that the book is being completely overhyped.
bullyboy wrote:people refusing to play you because you are playing Eldar are people not worth playing in the first place. You can bet that they are going to be picking the best from their codex so don't worry about it.
Exactly, a lot of these people complaining I bet run the best their Codex offers and feeling like there Power lists don't stand a chance demand you nerf yours so they can have a better chance at winning. I go with a rule when I go to any game, I ask "is your list a fluffy/fun list or is it more of a strong/competitive list?" Depending on your answer build your list accordingly.

I would also suggest that the people on the board saying they will refuse to play elder players will represent the small minority of opponents you will encounter.
Negative press is always the most vocal and what sticks in your memory.
Even those who say they wont play you if you use Eldar would probably capitulate if the list your running is not the silly bike/wraith spam everyone is loosing their minds over.
In regards to the Avatar - the is no modelling for advantage in using the FW model. In fact, I would suggest its a disadvantage due to its height and thus larger silhouette for shooting. I use mine and have never had an issue. If you think the official GW one is too small I am not sure what you are trying to achieve via proxy as if the selection you make is larger you might as well use the FW model!

Aspect host gives all of the 3 squads plus exarchs +1bs or Ws. That's reapers, dragons, spiders and whatever hitting on 2s in addition to the tons of extra rules.
People are going to HATE this book.
PS booked leaked on 4chan. Everything is true, other then d-scythes still being 10pts more.

With Howling Banshees being able to assault without fear of Overwatch (guessing its there new Banshee Mask ability) I would think Jain Zaar would be a good choice even if I am partial to Swooping Hawks. And trust me, you are not TFG if you are playing with your favorite faction or units you love but anyone refusing a game because they are scared to play it or are mad their power list will have issue with it is. Also realize those people refusing a game are also hurting themselves because that's one less game they will get and if word gets around that they are refusing games because you play Eldar more mature players will not want to play them either.

I went though the "I won't play your Space Wolves" when the 2nd and 5th editions Codex's came out. With the 5th they called me a Band-Wagon-Cheese Player" even though I have been playing Space Wolves since 1st Edition. And this was before I unpacked my Army.
They will be get over it or not play me, that what I basically said to myself and I have not been happier.
As far as the Aspect Warriors...I need to pick up some Dark Eldar so I can put my Howling Banshee's in a Open Top Raider.

If you go second, and in the tournament scene it seems like most TO's limit your Army List to 1 CAD and 1 Formation or Ally or 2nd CAD so it will cut down on the number of shenanigans that people can bring.

1st had:
Space Marines (no specific lists, though plenty of chapters were named, including Space Wolves)
Imperial Army (eventually became Imperial Guard)
Squats
+various Imperial characters like Rogue Traders, Inquisitors, Astropaths, etc.
Orks
Chaos (Marines + Daemons) (Came later)
Harlequins
Eldar (Corsairs, and later Craftworld)
There were quite a few random aliens like Slann and Ambulls
Tyranids (much different than the modern ones, included Zoats)
Genestealer Cult (not originally related to Tyranids)

Huh?
You can charge turn 1 no problems so long as you did not infiltrate or scout basically.
There is no restriction to not charging turn 1 - only the fact that you deploy more than 24"apart and most fast units move 12 and charge 2d6 making a turn 1 charge impossible.
There are most definitely things that can charge you turn 1 - the new hawks for example!

Only it is not guardsman playing the army, but a player. out of 4 people I play them most one plays eldar and the other technicly plays DE, but most of his army is eldar. The what you call challange stops being fun after playing the 3ed game, knowing no matter what you do the eldar codex is better suited for 7th ed. And the fact that it will be so for another year or two does add fun for the IG player.
In fact I find it kind of a bogus that eldar players calling people bad for not wanting to play against them, even if they use fun lists. Have you ever wondered why this happens? Maybe because other for fun lists are another word for bad lists, while eldar ones are not even close? A for fun aspect using eldar army is going to be better then a few other factions "tournament" ones.
Also the idea that only the eldar players can or can not have fun is so over the top it is hard to comment on. And eldar player, god knows why, gets the option to pick any army and play anyone, but god forbid someone doesn't want to play against eldar. No that auto turns him a TFG.

You got the meaning of a fun list wrong, it means fluff based, themed, or just an assortment of your favourite units. I'm just of the opinion that anyone that refuses a game from someone because their CODEX is unbalanced due to a couple of units, and the player makes a list that either doesn't utilise these units or is themed is a bit unfair on the player, it wasn't my fault I chose eldar x many years ago, why should I be punished for it? And you'll find that it isn't many of the eldar players fault that their chosen factions book is unbalanced, and nor is it their fault that their opponents faction is unbalanced. Well said. If someone is trying to bring an all scatter bike and d-weapon list to a friendly game, by all means, turn him down! But for those of us who are looking forward to using the more reasonable options, don't shut us down just because there happen to be poorly balanced options in a book we own. Have no fear, guardsman buddy. Your tanks and orders will be quite effective against my footslogging toughness 3 army.
|
ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

I've been one of the more negative people about the new Eldar codex, but I wouldn't refuse a game against your Eldar unless you had a really broken list that I had tried to play against and I felt I had no chance. As much as I think the dex is pretty broken and that people can tell how broken things are without playing them, I would still try them a few times.

Its a strong dex, there is lots of good in there, the Warhost is abusive but the regular cad is run of the mill, If you ban out GCs and super heavies it sudden becomes a normal game and the changes to the units seem more justified.
The scat bikes is still hard to swallow but at $50 for 3 you wont see armies of them running around.

Run the aspect host then.
If you run 3 units of whatever with exarchs you might as well, you get +1Bs or Ws and reroll morale checks.
Im going to try 3 units of 5 dark reapers since they got cheaper. Bs5 goes a long way on them.

Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

The avenger shrine is nutty too. 3 units of avengers and 1 exarch. All bs5, reroll Ld,and once per game get assault 3 shuriken catapults.
That's 90 bs5 shots that are ap2 on 6s.

Barring some of the silly stuff the codex is what it should be. Guess GW noticed sales dipping on their string of nerfed dexes.

Honestly, I'd stick to the CAD. Yes, you can do stupid stuff with the new formation, but the CAD let's you do the stuff you want, and won't confuse people. That's my plan, anyways.
If you aren't immediately drawn to any specific Phoenix Lord, go Asurmen. He's the original, and he's the most straiht-forward. So he leads your army, more than being one fancy bag of tricks like the others.
