Who do you think should be handed the reins by the Black Library to complete the Horus Heresy story and writing the siege of Terra and the final battle between Sanguinius & the Emperor vs Horus?

I'm going to go for the obvious answer in Dan Abnett. He did an excellent job with the first book and it would work well with him doing both the beginning and the end. Plus as a Blood Angels fan, I reckon he would do a good job of writing Sanguinius (with golden hair not black) and the Blood Angels. Although having said that McNeill is very good at battle scenes and Demski-Bowden is excellent so I guess any of those three would be good choices I reckon.

I voted ADB but I'd be happy with Abnett too.

Abnett would actually include a full cast of characters without removing their depth. Something most other authors simply fail to do. For the end of the story it would be incredibly important to to wrap up a dozen plots around a singular event and while some of the other authors do ONE good character, with a few quirky side characters dominated by one personality aspect, Abnett can handle the large cast.

Abnett, if we ever get there. I can forsee a Robert Jordan/George Martin type scenario in 30 years time:

I would have voted Abnett, then McNeill. However, I recently read 'The Crimson Fist' short story, which was absolutely stunning, so my vote goes to John French.

Abnett. And the last line better damn well be:

The problem there is that this is the one thing Abnett CAN'T do. He's a great author ... right up until he has to write the ending. Then it all tends to go kind of sideways. I would be super nervous trusting him alone with this. That said, he did start the series and he's over-all one of the better authors (imo) in the BL stable. I would be curious to see him team up with ADB to write the ending. I think they would compliment each other well.

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

Some say that the Emperor would not have been able to defeat Horus were it not for the chink in Horus' Armour caused by Sanguinius' multilaser...

Why not "I was there, the day that Horus fell..." It would be a nice wrap up to his adventure in chaos.

That would still work, but "I was there the day the Emperor killed Horus" would probably work better as the "I was there, the day that Horus fell.." has already been used in False Gods. Mind you, anything like either of those would do it for me, would be a great and memorable way to end the series.

I've always wanted to read the story of the emperor inventing the glorious multilaser to end the heresy from its sheer majesty

Sure, if they don't need to make any sense or have any coherency with prior scenes.

That said, John French appears to be TBL's best author right now, so he would get my vote. He seems to be the one who most "gets" the grimdark setting.

But, I mean, who knows if he'll still be writing for them in fifteen years when the series finishes?

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Either Abnett or ADB, probably. At least they might write something I might enjoy in spite of it being 30k.

I want to see 2 books following the events from both sides. I want it to end where both sides see themselves as in the right and working for the betterment of man kind.

I haven't seen anyone else mention him, but I'm honestly liking the direction the Ahriman books are going so I'm choosing John French. I feel like his books are much more dramatic than the few HH novels I've read and his action scenes are fun to read.

So you haven't read Prospero Burns then? Where he introduces people to be full cast only to forget they exsist for the majority of the book before suddenly bringing them back and going "Oh yeah, his guy is a Space Wolf now." I haven't read his HH Books after that, though to be fair thats mostly because there are just so many HH books I fell behind when I started reading other things.

I generally like ADB and his ability to write Astartes (another thing I always felt Dan lacking a bit in ability for) so I'd say Aaron should they wrap the series up anytime soon and focus on Astartes and the Primarchs.

Ben Counter...

I'm not even sure if I'm joking or not as I did enjoy Galaxy in Flames as well as Daemonworld... But the Soul Drinkers series... *shudders* though I thought Hellforged was good or whichever one it was with the Necrons.

On a more serious note, Abnett could be good as the ending is pretty much written for him. Though in several of the books he has written, I feel that he wanted to write more and just couldn't fit it all in. So maybe Abnett if the seige of terra could be split into two books (at least).

ADB is solid as well and if the seige of Terra had to be in a single book, I'd probably go with him.

Saw several posts about French. Haven't read anything of his so I couldn't make a call there (though now I am intrigued).

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.
