No need for markers when all are Ion. I like to have the ignores cover but I think he is just going for bang for buck. Automatically Appended Next Post: You could drop tigurious and take a regular libo (I know divination etc blah blah) and use those points for a unit or 2 of path finders.

Thanks for the replies.
Should I try to fit some Tetras on the list?
Should I drop the NDK and Add a couple more Cents to the Star?
This Venue doesn't nerf Invisibility. I need Tigurious to vastly increase my chances of getting Invis.
Adjusted the Points.
Another Thought:
What if I dropped 1 VT and the Heavy Psycannon to add 1 more Cent?

I don't he could FBSC for this much and have tank hunters and 200 more points to put in his other detachments
He doesn't need marker lights with what he brought. The tetras may perform some roles but really you're buying the unnecessary lights. I've recently ran entire lists with the only marker lights on my skyrays and I crushed even harder because I was able to get more shots. The FBSC really doesn't need ML's
The kroot are to outflank and force them to shoot at something else that is cheap and may kill a model or two before dying/possible steal an objective in the back field forcinf fire that way

Yeah, assuming he had the models for a FBSC. As Tau isn't his main army, it's not likely he just has 6 Broadsides sitting around. Also, it's just plain foolish to have Markerlights at your disposal and not use them. Markerlights are what make Tau great.

If you have even two riptides you should have 6 broadsides since they're the best thing in the codex and that's only two units of them
No range makes tau great. Being able to put ignores 56 ignores cover shots in a 1500 pt game is what makes Tau great. Spending 35-100 pt units a turn just to jump up one units ballistic skill isn't always worth it

They're squishy, especially for how expensive they are. Not to mention the only viable loadout for them is all missiles all the time. Also, Sky Rays are far more useful than Broadsides if they Broadsides are not in a FBSC. That's not a problem you encounter with Riptides.

Skyrays are great that's true, but I've had three of them brick at destroying 1 storm raven so by turn 3 they had no missiles left and only SMS. I've never had a problem keeping my broadsides alive.
In fact I basically use the two riptides I have to soak up damage for to keep the fire off my broadsides
It's not like the riptide has more than one viable loadout and Missile and SMS combo makes broadsides good against everything in the game besides land raiders
Marker lights I use if I run crisis suits (which is situational and almost always a poor choice) or fire warriors.... which I think against is not the greatest option unless youre going to dump in at least 36 of them

Riptides are the most versatile unit in the codex and easily the best.

So you tuck yours in the back? I'm pretty sure that's not a good use either. I obviously shoot things with it. Whats the point in having a jetpack in the back?
What can a riptide kill that a broadside can't?
Riptides kill troops and soak up damage, but when I'm facing a tank A unit of broads is pumping out 24 shots, 12 of them twin linked and strength 7 as opposed to the riptide with 7 shots 3 of them being strength seven and not twin linked. More wounds on the broadsides and cheaper
The riptide sitting in the back as a platform is an expensive waste. The riptide not being twin linked and costing 8 times per strength 7 shots because of that also relies on marker lights for it's large blast or 3 round burst to be accurate. Making it even more expensive per shot than that.
Edit: should read per hit in the last part
Question then... What do you use to attract fire then? Since the riptide costs more for less damage output and no more survivability the fact my opponent wants to kill it because its cool and intimidating looking is what makes more than one an essential piece in my army.
Riptides are actually awful at killing tanks besides light transport and fast attack.

The Riptide is, essentially, a big Crisis Suit with a lot more capabilities. ECPA with FE makes them a real force to be reckoned with. Riptides are vastly more mobile than Broadsides, much more durable, and much more worth the points. If you need a huge, jetpacking tank hunter; the Riptide can do that. If you need a mobile, big gun; the Riptide can do that. Broadsides just can't compete with all the options. Sure, missiles are fine and great, but Fusion kills tanks too just as easily.

That's what the ethereal is for. free 6 up FnP and LD 10.
You could be right but it's hard to see it since my Tau lists haven't lost yet.
I've been working on a TAC Tau list for the next tournament I play since I haven't fielded one there yet.. I run two riptides anyway though. So not sure If I'll find out. I have noticed that 1 riptide never kills more in my games than three broadsides though. everything I said about points per shot and hit is all that really matters to me with tau or I'd be fielding vespids and pirhanas.

Well, to be fair, my main Tau list is FE, suit heavy, and very mobile. The only time I use Broadsides is when I (occasionally) run my Tau Empire gunline with FBSC.

So you run crisis suits a lot then? Yeah that's the opposite of me.
I don't run any hard counters to things. I really try to keep it rounded so almost anything can target anything if its the onyl unit in range without it wasting it's shots
I also rarely run firewarriors. I just go for quantity of shots and late game mobility. I'm sure when I play more maelstrom I'l start changing my lists because it seems to HEAVILY favor early game mobility

Snipers are incredibly under rated for the Tau. If they weren't a heavy support option I'd run them religiously. Now I want to run some test games

I don't like the Riptides... And I love Riotides.
IA Riptides without Markerlight support to mitigate Gets Hot and cover are not terribly efficient damage dealers. Also, the IA Riptides isn't terribly effective at AA, the HBC is actually better at it.
What is your secondary weapon? I'd go Fusion with your Velocity a Trackers, Riolefired Twinlinked a Fusion is much more effective AA.
Overall, it's a very interesting list!

Knights and Riptides? Goddamn that'll be fun. As for which Knight list...I'm leaning more toward the Adlance than the Baronial Court. By the way, I think that x2 Fusion and x1 SMS is the way to go on the Riptides.

I've actually been looking into Knights recently myself. Your Adlance doesn't have any AA in it (to the best of my knowledge), which isn't vital thanks to your VTs on the Riptides.
I'd probably take the Castigator over the Errant however.
