I have a Q3 coming up this weekend and I'm tossing around ideas. I am thinking about taking DS9 for kicks. This is what I have so far:

I'm also kicking around the idea of a Breen based fleet, but it's still on the drawing board. So thoughts

Interestingly I have a Q3 coming up in a couple of weeks and am looking for some crazy build ideas. My first thought was also DS9.

I won Q1 and Q2 at this store so just playing in Q3 means I can't not win the grand prize.

That being the case wanted to take something crazy and fun. I want to see if I can win without using the normal cloaked mines, fighters etc that are common in the local meta.

I do have a crazy OP kor based list in my back pocket (had a really hard game against a kor list in Q2, so I went home to see if I could do the same but better)

Is a bajoran based fleet with DS9 do-able?

Yer. While I'm up for doing something a bit crazy and fun I don't want to be so uncompetitive it's an auto win for anyone I play against, I do have a track record of winning to live up to.

I didn't know if playing a list based around cancelling attacks, disabling my opponents upgrades and stacking aux tokens on their ships would be any good.
It would be very different for my local meta and could bring a new element to our games.

I like the Breen fleet idea, each with a energy dissipater. Would make your opponent really scared of getting with range 1 of you. Could you get 4 in one list?

I hear that. That is why I gave up on my Ferengi Pure list this time around. I will save that for Temporal Cold War when I don't give a about the prize. Like you I want to do something fun and different, but not be the auto win. I have a Terix, but another would be nice


An Aux throwing list can be fun. Back in Dominion War OP5 I played a list with two Science Vessels equipped with Ferengi EM Pulses. Double Auxing Picard is a lot of fun I even made a guy rage quite round 3. Loved it.

The last time I worked it up it had 3 breen ships with dissipaters, but I think maybe going with two and converting some Hidekies into Breen fighters could be fun. Maybe after the kids go to bed I will try and dig it out again and see what you guys think.

It uses 1 less fighters, so a degree less cheesy, but at the same time, Madred is going to whisk away all those 'ubercaptains' so many people are so fond of leaning on...

Yeah the 2nd list does have a lower factor. I also like the idea of the Reklar having a 4 attack range 1-3 360. Can make for a. Ice little bubble. With the crew and Reklar ability it can get up to 3 defense which is nice for a ship that moves so clunky.

Any sugestions for A Federation DS9 fleet? I an kind of liking bringing the DS9 that doesn't disable torpedoes, Give it Skill 9 Picard or Spock, Hikarus Sulu, Riker (dodge), and Tom Paris.

But then idk what else to bring.

It is faction pure because DS9 is dual factoin Fed/Bajoran. If DS9 does the Bajoran Militia action it gets 8 attacks Pike is at skill 7 because of Jaro, Sisko is at skill 7 because of fleet captain. Defiant gets 4 attack dice, 5 defense and 1 reroll per turn. Fighters doe what fighters do.

First turn doc the Sakharov at DS9 offload Spock, second turn offload Sensor Sweep, then DS9 can use Bajoran Militia, with TL and Scan every turn (well as long as the shields hold out).

The Ratosha comes with 3 , it is the retail Bajoran scout ship.

Jarro Essa also comes in the pack. He can only go on a Bajoran ship, but a 1 point admiral can be useful IIRC there is also an Assault Vessel upgrade that boosts attack and something else.

Back when I was planning on collecting Bajorans (Before I added another trio of games to my life and therefore, budget), I had planned on two of them just for these guys... I remember now. I also had planned on two of the Interceptors (which should probably be fighter squadrons personally)

So I have been throwing around a couple Breen lists.

List one is pretty straight forward and as "Breen" as possible

Personally I like this list the best, it feels very Breen. Sar's ships is the sleeper in the list, with 4 defense dice. Pran and Gor can soften things up and Sar can finish things off.




List 2 is a little more competative (maybe a good opportunity to convert some Breen Fighters )

List 2 feels more stripped down but if people focue on the Cruisers the fighters could tear them up. The bigges challenge with this list will be keeping the Cruisers with the fighters. If the cruisers get too far ahead the enemy can pick you apart. Double fighters feels but I think they are slightly balanced by the cruisers. The cruisers don't have BS and only a 90 degree front.



List 3 less Breen, but more competative

List 4 doesn't feel very "Breen" but Dukat has a chance for a 4-5 die ED shot and the Gor Portas has Gul Madred to deal with troublesome enemies. The fighters have a little more staying power, in effect 6 tokens.



I know the Type 8 phasers are not faction pure, but they make up for the designers vastly under powering the Breen ship. To me the Type 8s get us closer to what we saw on screen. I need to get some play time with these guys to see if any of the lists above are viable, but I did promise you guys I would share my Breen Thoughts

Came 2nd today with the Terok Nor build. Defeated a mirror fleet and a federation fleet but lost to the winning federation fleet. I flew the Trager badly. Think I'll go jemhadar for my next dominion build

Well I'm glad someone got to use the build. My OP was cancelled this weekend. I was the only one who showed up. My store also had an Armada Event and some magic thing going on. Another store near by had an X-Wing tournament. We had already postponed it once because one guy couldn't make it. I was lucky though, I was tied for 1st place and the TO gave me the Terix and Q cards because I showed up. He said we will have an event maybe after Balance of Terror for the other Terix.

I think this is the first OP I have never played in. I missed Q3 at another store because the family was sick Oh well maybe this one will come around again.

I skipped out on mine as well (Not a fan of paying for a tournament with prizes I don't want)...

I might run the DS9 Fed build during reign of terror, since I will be running it in one venue and playing in another.

Ouch. Nothing is worse then showing up for an event that get's canceled.

We get consistently 10 players, with as many as 18 and as few as 6 for our events. We're trying to figure out how many of the new blind bricks to get for the new OP's after the FLGS went WAY overboard on the last blind bricks and doesn't want to order any more then 3 bricks. That's only enough for 30 players. We really don't want to start capping events (that just sucks for everyone), so we're trying to figure out how to get 1-2 more blind bricks for our next OP's.

How many bricks from the RiF does the FLGA still have? Eight. Eight because the distributor messed up and sent 12 instead of the 5 that were requested. And instead of sending the excess back, the FLGS kept it. I have no idea why... and now they are begrudgingly ordering only 3 more.

I'm pretty sure the reason why we get so many players is that STAW doesn't require players to assemble or paint anything, the rules are not all that complicated (well, maybe initiative and deployments...), it uses cards that can be combined to make a "better" ship, and a game takes maybe an hour. Plus, it's Star Trek. So it pushes all the right buttons around here. Oh, and the biggest draw- low buy in. You only need a couple ships to play a game.

I haven't been to an event with more than 6 people since the Collective One store I go to has a consistent 4 , we are the diehards Another has anywhere from 3-6 depending on who rolls in. The last usually has 3-4. At that store we lost 3 players to X-Wing. They played both games, bot another store started X-Wing tournaments on the same day as our STAW events. Up until the collective we were having a consistent 8-10 at each store. My area is still recovering from the Borg and Dreadnoughts.

My main store has the same issue with the blinds. They still have a Collective brick and 4 RiF. The ordered 3 and were sent 7 I don't know if they paid for them or not. They have been holding out on selling them. The TO told me they are talking about selling them for $20 I wouldn't pay that much for any of the RiF ships. They are good, but not worth more than any retail ship. Now they did say if we use them for an event they will only charge $15 So the TO and I are trying to think up some events.

The store I got into as the TO still has old OP kits stockpiled in the back, apparently unopened. They are waiting on me, and I in turn am waiting on them, to try and get the ball rolling.

The three shops I have played at have on average six players, and one of them is going to see a marked decline as 3 out of the 4 guys I have all agreed to stop going there.

That said, a special even last week ended up with 12 players total.

A "stockpile" of OP kits oh the treasures. It's kinda weird, at one store I play there two guys that show up during the week to play on space game night, but we can't get them to come to OPs. The other store has a 200pt faction pure game once a month and get a steady 8. I usually can't go to those because their during the week and it is just too far to travel in rush hour traffic. So there are lots of people but for some reason they don't want to come to OPs.

OP events sometimes bring out the worst in players. One of my friends has a low-level of autism, and the competition of an OP tournament gets to him.

I was hesitant to buy into them because I don't like paying to play a game. After I tied for second in my first ever OP, I got comfortable with them, but some people don't like it.

I like going even if I'm not going to play just so I can see who is who and get a feel for the players.

On a fun side note, I had a friend take 1st with a Constellation and two Constitutions and three fighters.

That is a nasty list. One of those took me apart when I was using two Tac Cubes and an assimilated B'rel.


But I get what you are saying about OPs. They get cut throat. One of my venues we do what we want the store doesn't care as long as we pay our entry fee. The other two say they will adopt any house rules we want if we get more players, right now they won't do faction pure because they think it might scare someone off. Even though we have tried telling them it might bring more in, their not convinced.

The OPs around here are fairly friendly, but there are some guys that are just... not fun. One guy gets very very cheeky with his tactics: during Peak Performance he ran around for 50 minutes out of our 60 minute round, waiting for my formation to break up... then swooped in and killed my least dodgy ship in a volley of fire from three spheres with less than 3 minutes on the clock.

And another guy gets frustrated because his builds are good.. but his dice hate him sometimes and other times he gets out maneuvered.

Well it is pleasing that I have inspired someone. I have been neglecting my story line reports lately, darn work amd life demands I have one that is waiting to be typed up another out planned. Now that Kor 8 is out I want to get in a few more TOS era games But now that the Romulan Empire had twice pushed the Federation out of the Neutral Zone it's time to take the fight to them.

Once you get your stuff together I would love to read it . Personally I find the home brew campaigns much more fun than OPs, but getting out of the basement every now and then is fun too, especially if you have small children It is more fun to "forge a narrative" with STAW than some other game I may have played before

Attack Wing and X-Wing are my two big passions for Forging a Narrative. I will make sure to get pics and Reports together one the storyline starts rolling.
