Ok, ok I know the drill is that I have to buy everything but right now things don't allow for that sort of cash drop. Now, I'm selling off some old Magic cards on Wednesday so I'll have a nice big chunk of cash to fund some purchases. I'll be in the vicinity of the cheapest place around, where I can get small ships for $15.95 and medium ones for $20.95. Their website indicates that they have a great selection in stock (which was always one of the downfalls before, my closest LGS had minimal stock at more expensive prices so I didn't get into the game too much.) So, I'll have around a hundred bucks to blow on toy ships all at once, which is going to make me feel like a kid in a candy store. Here's a rundown of what I was thinking, but I need to whittle it down since I shouldn't get all of it.
Force Awakens Core Set - I want the new X-Wing and this is the only place to get it for now. I'm kind of iffy on the FO TIEs, but they seem alright and there are a few upgrades that we may not see in the expansion packs when they come out. Downside here is that it takes a big bite out of my budget and this will likely be on the shelves consistently for a long time, as opposed to single ship expansions, which tend to have long gaps before a reprint.
B-Wing expansion - I want more B-Wings in my force, if for rule of cool alone. I already have the Rebel Aces one, and the expansion seems to have some pretty damned good upgrades. Downside is that I'm unlikely to use it in games.
K-Wing expansion - Twin laser turret goodness for one, and the ship itself is actually growing on me. For my "fanon" Awakens-era mixed-ship wing, it will add some diversity once I have multiples of other ships.
Z-95 Headhunter expansion - Some good upgrade cards here. I already have the 2 from the Most Wanted set, but some of the Scum lists I've been toying with would have 3+ Z-95s supporting a better ship or 2.
Kihrasz Fighter expansion - A really cool, good ship for Scum. I already have 1, but I was throwing around the idea of Talonbane and a Cartel Marauder + whatever wingmen I could fit in. Comes with some cool upgrades as well.
Y-Wing expansion - My all-time favourite ship, I already own 2 Rebel and a Scum one. Other than being a personal favourite, I have no real reason to buy more at the moment.
Star Viper expansion - I dislike the ship, and it is apparently not of a whole lot of use. Upgrade cards are literally the only reason I have to get this thing, and apparently they're high-priority must-haves, sooo...
X-Wing expansion - The staple Rebel ship, but perhaps not so much in the game? I already have 3, so once the T-70 comes out in earnest, will there be much point in running the ol' T-65?
I already have a decent collection, but this will be probably the largest single purchase I've made to date. I just want to make sure it's the right stuff to start getting some games in. With Christmas coming up and all, there's no telling when I'll be able to afford more gaming stuff...

X-wing comes with Wedge, which I cannot recommend enough. The z-95 is alsoa good buy. I love my B-Wings, they perform solidly as long as I fly them right. Having a second one is a must, as you can gravitate to a lot of different lists with them.
Can you give us a rundown of what you do have? YT-2400, YT-1300?

I've got:
X-Wing Core Set
YT-1300
Rebel Transport
X-Wing single pack
Rebel Aces
A-Wing single pack
2 Y-Wing single packs
Imperial Aces
2 TIE Fighter single packs
TIE Advanced single pack
Most Wanted
Hound's Tooth
Kihrasz Fighter
So Wedge is already in my collection. I've already got all the possible T-65 related cards, which is why I was wondering if T-70s are the way to go from here.

Definitely, yes, skip the extra T-65. I would go for a B-Wing, YT-2400 (to get a legit Lone Wolf card, at the very least) GEt the Tie Interceptor single pack, and love the hell out of Soontir Fel. Firespray-31? Tie Phantom!!!! Which faction do you prefer to play? That might also help us give you more info. I'm very partial to Rebels, and no one in my group seems keen to play S&V, SO I have a unique "in" that way.
Top Rebel buys:
B-wing
YT-2400
Top Imperial buys:
Interceptor
Phantom
Firespray
Top S&V buys:
Frespray
StarViper(for the cards) or IG-2000 (for the ship)
If you want the Mangler Cannon, a cheaper way to get the card is the M3-A interceptor... just don't expect to want to put the ship in play.
But that's just my opinion.

I love the Rebel ships more, but I like the Scum faction a lot. I like Imperials' uniformity of design as well, though a lot of the more obscure ships are new to me.
Today I picked up an E-Wing at my FLGS since the place I'm going tomorrow is out of stock on them. Upgrades are kind of underwhelming and I don't know how they'll fit in canon-wise after the new movies, but I quite like it. I love the Corran Horn character, so it'll be cool to fly him.

Then I'd say go for a B-Wing, a Firespray and a Z-95. If you have spare cash, I know I'd lay my hands on the YT-2400. It seems to be a good ship.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, their online store is showing them being out of Slave-1s and my FLGS has them for $44.99. I'd rather wait it out and save the $13, that's almost another whole small ship!
I did get a Lone Wolf upgrade with the Hound's Tooth, but I may look into the YT-2400 anyway. I spent a lot of hours playing as that ship in the old Shadows of the Empire video game.

Ok, so I went a bit hog wild but the prices in-store were even cheaper than the website! I ended up getting:
YT-2400
Z-95 Headhunter
K-Wing
B-Wing
A-Wing
TIE Interceptor
TIE Phantom
Star Viper
Kihraxz Fighter
So my forces were all given a pretty good boost. Cut down the holes in my collection by about half (I think I'm only missing 3 small ships, 1 medium and 3 large.)

Wow, nice haul. I'd have foregone the A-Wing, but I'm a known hater.
You'll see, your lists will now be a lot more open to alternatives, and your opponents won't know what hit them.

Thanks! All the small ships besides the Kihraxz were $13.95, which is a hell of a lot easier to swallow than the $21.99 I paid for the E-Wing yesterday!

Yesterday I bought Slave 1 and the HWK. Worse still, I found a local shop with good prices ($14.99 for small ships, $34.99 for large, as opposed to $21.99 and $44.99-49.99 at my other local store!)
They don't have much in stock right now, but the owner said they've been doing well with it and to expect regular restocks. Right now they've only got the HWK, old starter set and Imperial Shuttle, so I bought the HWK and will go back for the shuttle after I sell off some of the stuff I've got on Kijiji.

Still missing 10 expansions and the newest core set. I'm pretty content with what I have now though, since most of what I'm missing doesn't really interest me at all.

Yeah, after the Imperial Shuttle I'll get the new core set and then I may wait until the T-70 single packs come out. Unless anyone can convince me that the IG-2000 is a necessity for Scum players and that an Imperial squadron will benefit from a TIE Bomber, Defender or Punisher.

Right, that's what disappointed me about it; no generics and the best synergy is another IG-2000. That story with the 4 different IG-88s really rubbed me the wrong way when I read it, which probably doesn't help. I do need a Mangler Cannon though, as I can't seem to find anywhere with the Scyk stocked. Maybe when I find them for under 40 bucks each I'll add the IG-2000 into my fleet. There are some pretty good upgrades in that set, now that I look at it.

Single Aggressors are still really good and have some really nice upgrades, but you really have to squeeze all you can out of their inherit maneuverability. While you do lose the IG-88A-D synergy, I've had great fun running a Firespray and Aggressor together.

Agreed, it was how I ran it until I picked up my second, plenty of fun. I do like running two though, and I think learning to fly it is helping make me a better player, as while undoubtedly a strong list, it's also very technical and full of opportunities to make errors and overlook things, and one bad turn can really hamstring your chances.

Ok, so I got the new core set, an IG-2000 and a TIE Defender with some of my birthday money. Holy HELL is the Defender expensive or what?!
Now that takes my list of what I don't have down to:
Blockade Runner
Imperial Huge Ship
TIE Bomber
TIE Punisher
I was honestly thinking of bypassing thre Bomber and Punisher altogether, and maybe even the Blockade Runner. The Imperial Raider should be a purchase somewhere along the line due to the Advance upgrades it has. Next though, I'm thinking of getting another K-Wing and maybe even a 4th Y-Wing and hopping on the T-70 and FO TIE when they get released as singles. Thoughts?

If you not planning on playing Epic I'd pretty much skip the Huge Ships, you can most likely Ebay the Advanced Upgrade cards
The TIE bombers are okay, but not very flexible, fairly skippable too unless you want Cluster Mines for some other list

The tie bombers are ok, and I feel they're best in a swarm, because then you can use Captian Jonus to really help. Also Tie bombers have 6 hull and 2 agility so they're tanky.
The Tie Punisher is a definite grab in my opinion, you get 2 Twin Ion engine modifications which is a must for the Tie Defender, and you get extra munitions which is great for ordinance. Also you can run a single Tie Punisher effectively unlike the Tie Bombers...
I like playing Deathrain as a fun bomber and Redline as a good weapons platform due to the dual target locks. With the system upgrade you can add enhanced scopes to Deathrain to making bombing super easy, and Fire-Control System to Redline for un-ending target locks.
Example: Redline target locks a ship gets 2 target locks, spends 1 target lock to fire cluster missiles, spends target lock to reroll first attack, gets 2 more target locks due to FCS and then you can reroll the 2nd attack and still have 1 target lock left...
Also you can grab a cutlass squadron pilot with accuracy corrector (24 points) and you have a ship very similar statwise to the B-wing that can boost around the table!
Redline (27)
- Extra Munitions 2pt
- Fire Control System 2pt
- Cluster Missiles 4pt
- Plasma Torpedoes 3pt
total 38 points
I like playing this guy in normal games (non-tournament) against falcons and the like, people just seem to underestimate him but he can cripple a large low agility ship in 2 rounds...

Yep, eBay the cards in the Huge ships unless you know you're going to play Epic (or just really like the models).
The TIE Bomber is skippable. The ship itself only works in niche lists, and it doesn't come with any valuable upgrades.
The TIE Punisher can be pretty decent on it's own, and it comes with Twin Ion Engine Mk. II for your TIE Defender, as well as Plasma Torpedoes.
The Blockade Runner ( CR-90) comes with C3P0... but you'll be able to pick up that card in the winter kit if you attend a tournament. Don't buy it unless you actually want to play Epic.
Next though, I'm thinking of getting another K-Wing and maybe even a 4th Y-Wing and hopping on the T-70 and FO TIE when they get released as singles. Thoughts?
All are good options. The 4th Y-Wing is only good if you want to be able to do a hardcore TLT list... in which case, you will also need to buy a 2nd K-Wing to get two more TLT cards. The T-70 expansion will come with with Integrated Astromech, which is very useful on your T-65 X-Wings. The TIE/ fo expansion is maybe skippable, since the upgrades it comes with are only really useful on the TIE/ fo.

Ok, so I will spring for the Punisher at some point. Y-Wings are my favourite ship, but I also love their utility in Scum.
I may just grab another Force Awakens starter for 2 more FO TIEs and then get a few T-70 expansions. Individual ships are more expensive and I'll probably only want about 4 of the FO TIEs. I may get a single expansion if there's anything good in there.
And reading over what I've just written I realize I've become a full-blown addict. Yikes!

It will also be useful with the elite F/O pilots (Omega Ace/Leader), to help keep them alive. I suspect it will end up making 30pt TIE fighters more attractive.
