I may be able to get hold of an extremely nicely painted Reaver Titan (albeit a chaos one) - I've been wondering about fielding it in (as!) as a Horus Heresy force.

The only way you can ever fit in a Battle Titan (aside from stupidly huge games) is the Leviathan detachment, which allows one lord of war unrestricted by points value.
The only supporting units you can take are either more lords of war, or else an allied detachment.

Whilst I could fill up the points with a Knight but, I'd rather have something people can actually waste bolter rounds on, so I was thinking about the Imperialis Militia/Cults list. Besides which, one titan and one knight will probably look odd.
A force commander can make large levy units fearless and moderately dangerous in combat, providing me with nice warm bodies to screen the titan's feet. The problem is what to spend the rest of the points on (or just come in under-points?)

Leaves me with about 150 points. I'd love to take another levy unit, but I have only two troop choices to play with. Maybe spawn?

As someone who owns an Iron Hands Reaver, how and where is this nonsense? I would just spam tech marines

Take 150 points in repairs. Plain and simple. PLus the more tech priests you have blessing and worshiping this thing, the more thematic it looks. I do it all the time. 5 tech priests in transports running repairs and prayers.

Um isn't the leviathan detachment just lords of war?

You cant take the Reaver... You need to be running like 4500 points to run a barebones one

OK I stand corrected, you can take an allied detachment to the leviathan detachment. Which takes away the 25% points limit.

I mean.. being competitive, taking chaff just to give the enemy something to shoot doesn't make sense. But the idea of a cult horde backing up a chaos titan is really cool!

In the horus heresy books, there are a few alternate detachment. Book 1 or the red books.

How is it that overpowered? You have precisely one scoring unitand all the missions are objectives or maelstrom of war (at the whw events)

Yes tons, space wolves with melta and frost. Trust me, until you unleash a reaver if your own, you will think you can take it down no problem. 1450 pts with 550 to drop in blob support and repairs? You all are seriously underestimating the firepower this thing brings. Besides, youre doing is OH SO wrong if youre letting your reaver get caught up like that.

Thats nice, again, if they blow it up in CC, they will die in the explosion. So its a moot point. Sure melta, who doesnt take it now a days, but is that the only thing you can think of without considering the range you have to be within to make those shots? I wouldnt want to be that close to a reaver.

But again, until you field and fight with one or against one, you cant really say much other than speculate that, yes, of course melta takes down mechs. #1 of hammer, everyone knows this.

Now, if you said something like, a flying circus attacking it... then I might have issues. But melta? Really? Thats a point a first graded would bring up, pointing out the painfully obvious.

The Leviathan also requires that you take 1 HQ and one Troop... I see those, but it doesn't ignore the cap

Actually, no. The HQ and troop are required if you take an allied detachment, but that whole box is marked (OPTIONAL), as are the other two Lords of War.

here is the relevant page out of HH book 2. Note the "Leviathan Lord Of War" special rule:

"...this may represent any percentage of your army value..."

I could see a team of warhounds being able to take your Reaver down or Questoris Knights or a Primus redoubt or 2 primus redoubts... or a pack of Leviathan Dreads...

a reaver is so massive that it can claim 2 or even 3 objectives just standing there. Holy smokes. Good obj placement means a tough fight that makes the opponent have to assault it.

I fight two warhounds on a regular basis. It takes 3 warhounds to bring down a reaver in one turn. The Reaver can take down at least a warhound and a half each turn. Knights would suck to fight. But if I had a power fist instead of gatling I think i would be fine.

One unit can only claim one objective - although it can vary from turn to turn which one.

War hounds, as with all titans vary wildly in power depnding on armament - the inferno gun is essentially worthless in a titan fight but murders massed astartes (common in HH games).
The vulcan is a good shield-breaker on scout titans, because it gains Primary Weapon.

There's little that competes with bloody turbo lasers, though.

Knights..... hmmm. One knight will take forever to kill a reaver unless it gets lucky - needing a 5 to hit and not getting to use stomp, its damage output isn't great, and the titan can still walk off and continue shooting it. Multiple knights are a problem, of course - it depends if you can use terrain to avoid many-on-one fights.

The missile pod is damn effective against knights, by tje way - barrages have a tendancy to hit unshielded side or rear...

Melta bomb infantry Im less scaeed of. Needing a 6 to hit, and a non-trivial chance of no damage even if they do, plus again, not locked in combat.

I agree, melta is the least of my worries in CC. Youre correct on the bottle necking of multi knights. That would be essential.

One obj is correct, but standing on seveal contests half the available scoreable ones, making it almost one sided. " oh, score obj 3, destroy something in shooting and score obj 1. Well I get two of these with the reaver just by itsself standing there"

Warhounds with two turbos would be bad. but again, they need that 6 on the D chart to really do damage. Otherwise, the reaver will cut them down before they can bring it down.

It still wrecks sicrans on the regular. Do you think the D would be a better or worse option and the Volcano Cannon?

Actually, the optional version for destroyer weapons is better against knights at range - punching through AV13 with S10, primary weapon and sunder isn't hard - reducing the effect of the ion shield is much more important!

More importantly, it means an attacking knight can't get lucky and land a deathblow hit.

Ah. Thats what I figured. Unless im fighting AV 14 spam i dont need 3D6 tp pen.

I bet if I ran 8 Leviathan dreads, they could kill the titan...

at 2k? I dont think they would get to the other side of the board honestly. All the D shots would nuke the 8 models before they would move and run the 48' they would need to get to me.
