I know that typically you would play an RPG with a webcam and in a dedicated session (online anyway). But those present a number of issues to me.
I was wondering if there are any places that run sessions on a forum board without any fixed times. So basically a continuous session whenever somebody has the time to do his thing?

Specifically Black Crusade in this case but I'd interested to hear of any of the 40k systems...assuming there is such a thing?

It would probably be run in the Dakka fiction forum. There is a narrative campaign thing (minus the tabletop) going on there call "Crusade of Fury"

Hmm, I figured that the threads there would be more fan fiction than game if that makes any sense? Which is fine and all, but I was looking more for something that emulates a tabletop session a bit more. So a bit more dice heavy, at least in my mind lol.
Of course I don't actually know what an RL session is like, other than having seen the odd RPG vid on youtube. Either way, Thanks for the tip. Time to check that fiction forum

I mean time I thought, that I probably have a good shot of convincing my friends to give the game a try if I managed to find a GM. Neither has the skill or will to try GM'ing and finding one locally would be....challenging to say the least. But maybe I could find one willing to direct a local group of noobs online via a tablet sitting at the end of the table XD. That way I only need to find one (reliable)person that could play with us, rather than going through the trouble of managing a group of individuals online.

I'm guessing the best odds of finding one would be either here, roll20 and maybe the FF forums?

I happen to be an excellent GM and have a campaign prepared which is totally by coincidence. If you have the people, I could run it here.

Well, turns out they'd rather not play with an online GM. They seem to be set on a local GM, but unless we magically get a new member, I just don't see that happening. Especially with only the one or two premade adventures that come with the book and GM Kit. But who knows...miracles do happen, so there is still hope.

In the mean time, if your going to start some black crusade campaign on the forums I'd be quite interested. Though I'd have to warn you..total nubcake here. No experience RPG-wise whatsoever.

I have two rules during campaigns:

1: Play your character

2: Don't complain when I make things up (ie, NPC's, random rule clarifications, etc)

I usually prefer we have 3-6 people for a campaign so it doesn't get stale. Its also very easy when its not in person and in text so you can accurately play your character and I can differentiate between what you say and do as your PC and what you say and do meta-wise

Sounds good to me. How are characters typically created for this? Do I get to bring my own? I'm assuming you'll want some kind of software/database to keep track of stats n stuff?

If you want to print of a character sheet (from Fantasy Flight Games) I can keep a copy to keep track.

The campaign will heavily rely on the players being honest.

Any restrictions on class or race? Just so I can get the thoughts flowing...it can take me a while to settle with a concept

I am going to restrict CSM Sorcerers because they can get real OP real fast (it takes like 10000 exp to get to Psychic level 10)

I have the core book yes, but that's it...well and the gm kit I guess.

I have the main rulebook, BUT I have never played. Also, is this going to need CSMs or can we play renegades/humans and the like?

But looking at the weapon downgrades made me think of something.

How would you treat a weapon with noxious discharge (p.171) ? I imagine the smoke would make it harder for subsequent shots (from the csm) to hit, but how would you treat the smoke cloud for npcs shooting at the csm? Seeing as how its only a small cloud surrounding him, I would think that they don't suffer the same penalties? Except maybe when firing called shots?

I thought it might be useful when charging into melee on a pistol?

Also, on a different note, I'm wondering how much ammo I can get for a new weapon and if that takes up one of my starting equipment aquisitions?
Like, say, I want to buy a flamer. That would be one of the 2 available acquisitions at start. But Just buying it means I have no ammo right? Gettnig the high grade promethium would be a separate acquisition, but what about just standard promethium?
In the paragraph it says I don't need to make a test for basic ammo, but does this apply for character creation too? And if so, how much would be reasonable? Being a space marine they can literally carry a ton in game terms and the chosen already starts with 4 clips of bolter rounds and 6 pistol clips, so I reckon 4 would be a good number?
