I'm struggling with a competitive list for my Chaos!

Here's where Im at just now.

Any C&C is much appreciated. I also need help with my last 420pts!




This is the list I can make/buy at present.

Leftover, I have a renegade knight. But the 420pts is not sufficient to equip it.

So my alternatives,

(Not all are viable, just chains of thought)

2 Daemon Princes, Talons, Wings
3x Troops.

This gives me a battalion for 3 more CP and 2 more high T models.

Fire Raptor (I'll say no more)

Open to suggestions.

I feel my list is already heavy with Forgeworld Cheese. So I'd be reluctant to run the Fire Raptor.
Preference would be GW models.

Any suggestions/amendments appreciated.

Straight up Necrosius is better than the plague caster, for only 10 points more. Worth it IMO. Bonus, he acts like a chaos lord too, so you can downgrade yours to something cheaper if you want. Like a Maelific lord.

My sure what your keyword is, but exalted sorcerors are both cheaper and better than sorcerors if you don't mind including a Thousand Sons unit. (Once you make that leap, it's only a few more points for Ahriman, who is a better caster for that warptime you want )

Do you have a plan for alignment for the Decimators? Tzeentch would be my preference, with the changling in the middle.

Haven't found any other models with this?

The decimators could be Tzeentch with the changeling. With the lord also to protect from those 1's.

Also, Maelific lord? Which book are these from?
Or am I missing the link between the name and some wargear?

The Tainted is a legion keyword so can be given to all chaos marine units without a fixed legion. Including decimators.

Maelific Lord is a hq from the Renegades and Heretic list. It's in the FW Astra military book. Very cheap psyker, good for filling compulsory hq slots

I must admit, I hadn't considered the changeling much.
But it's such a good combo!

I think I either need more big targets or more dakka.

I have plenty small units with the horrors, and I have stuff to hurt high toughness models, such as the spawn and decimators.


Maybe some anti horde? More bloat drones? Baledrake?
Tank gun platforms? Mutilators?

I've found the fire raptor to be a very large investment for what it does (almost 25% of your entire army). You'd probably get more use out of lots of cheap renegade artillery as they'll be much harder to kill, meaning you'll have a nicer spread of damage sources to mess up your opponents target priority. In a list I posted recently, that was similar to yours, I ended up taking magnus over the fire raptor as he'd give me a more reliable way to deal with super heavies, and also pairs very well with decimators with souilburners for rerolls of 1 and prescience and the giant spawn with warptimes (so he's just a better force multiplier that's harder to kill).

Giant Spawn or spined chaos beasts? Spines get the alignment and DAEMON rules allowing synergy.

I have to immediately retract my guidance on Exalted Sorcerors being cheaper than sorcerors. Stupid faq hrumph. Ahriman probably still best bang for buck.

Giant spawn all the way. Takes a surprising amount of firepower to put one down, and then you can laugh as your opponent used lots of his army to put down a 75 point model.
