Hey dakkanaughts

Came up with a strange idea for a castle gunline list in answer to the question “what do we do about Orks?”

Went round and round a little with another poster in that thread, and refined it to what we have here.

Interested to open it up to more folks than just those in that thread.

Let me know what you think.

Spoiler:

The idea is to form a Phalanx, old school style that may march forward or may just sit and let people come to me.

Veil for shenanigans, Nephrek for DS Destroyers

Obviously MWBD on a unit of Teslas. Maybe pop Phaerons Will turn one to get both of your units being spammy in the first turn, s cond as well if you’re lucky.

Thoughts?

I dont like the stalker. I wonder if sautekh with imotekh and methodical destruction would be better. First, you gain 1 CP with imotekh, second you dont have to spend 1 CP for phaerons will. His storm ability could be used to trigger methodical destruction, tesla would explode on 4s for two units of 10 immortals, this would surely wipe out 30 boyz in one turn.

Cut a Cryptek to fill out the two Destroyer squads. Heat ray is probably the best option against Orks, so it's the right decision for this list but otherwise, I'd almost always go for the twin heavy gauss. A very strong list I think, I've done many similar lists and they all work pretty well, if the dice allow it and you're not playing against Knights or AM. Phaerons Will is very good, don't forget we also have a Stratagem that allows us to ignore cover, that can come in very handy with Tesla since they don't have any AP.

I'd consider trying out Sautekh for the extra CP, especially since putting the two Destroyer squads in DS can generate CP without shutting off generation for the first battle round. That would also let you keep one unit of Destroyers on the board so you have something to use Extermination Protocols with T1.

Why not utilize Scythes? The -1 to hit and being airborne certainly makes it more difficult for orks to deal with you on their terms.

Because :

1)Scythes are overcosted
2)You are tabled when you lose all your ground units, flyers dont count for boots on the ground
3)Orks have a unit that automatically hits at 48", once their codex is released
4)Orks are no longer really, really bad at shooting once their codex is released

Scythes are too overpriced, that's the first problem, for other factions flyers are probably a great counter to Orks. Going first with them and blocking enemy units is nice, but you can't block everything and Orks can teleport anyways and if you go second you're out of luck. You might say they'll survive, but what are you removing from your list? Would that unit have survived anyways because your opponent can't possibly destroy your entire army anyways? Then you're left looking at a very mediocre amount of shooting. S7 is no better than S5 most of the time, so that's 4 Immortals worth of shooting for the cost of 7,5 Immortals worth of pts. Add onto that the lack of MWBD which is what makes tesla awesome in the first place. The lists I played previous to the Ork dex release almost always contained one or two squads of Stormboys, in which case the Scythes are pretty terrible.
