Currently stripping Grom and his chariot from the "beautifully applied" paint of my Buddy, who sold it to me in 1998 for 50 Deutsche Mark along with some equally fascinating Monopose Swamp Boot Orc Archers, MP Orcboys, MP Goblins, a catapult and the 4th Edition armybook.

I am planning to make a big Campaign following the Waaagh of Grom from Middenheim via Nordland to Ulthuan, including a minigame of chariot racing and a sea battle using Man O War.,

This sounds amazing. Please post updates. That was one of my favourite stories in my first army book (5th High Elves)

Will do. I The chariot has still some basecoat left on some parts, it's kinda more resilient than the paint. But I am making good progress. So the first step ist painting Grom, then I will do some slight modifications on the chariot I think (pimp my ride! ) and when I am not busy painting, I will flesh out the campaign rules a bit. I have a vague idea on how to to it already. As the final fight is between High Elves and O&G, but the rest (or most of the rest) is Empire vs O&G, I have kinda limited influence on what is to be set up by the High Elves. In addition, as a "historical" campaign, Grom will make it to Ulthuan no matter what is going to happen in the Empire before. It's just the question how big his Waaagh will be when he arrives at the gates of Tor Yvresse.

In addition, it would be kinda unfitting / lame if Grom was to appear before the final showdown (and maybe defeated!!) during the campaign. So my idea was to set up several smaller battles like a spotlight illuminating interesting situations during the campaign.
Depending on how well the O&G player is doing / the Empire player is doing in these single scenarios, they will get Waaaagh! Points, or Support Points respecitvely. They can spend either spend these points for certain advantages in the following scenarios (e.g. allowing the Empire / O&G player to choose terrain/add a Regiment of Renown for this battle) or saving the points for the bulding of the fleet. The larger the fleet that survives the sea battle, the more can the O&G player field against the High Elves.

Example: I will probably start with a scenario displaying an attack on one of the main gates of Middenheim, with new O&G core & elite regiments arriving round after round, until the defenders are finally defeated. The more O&G the empire player will be able to defeat, the more support points he will get, or if it goes not so well or even worse for them, Grom will gain Waaaagh Points for his side.Rules for sieges will be based on 6th edition's rulebook.

Nice Horde! Now you can just split them in 2 separate units, too, if you're not playing 8th but any other edition. Or, for example, make one unit 25 strong, and the other one just 15, but upgrade these to Big Unz, for flanking.

I had a talk with a HE Player, it was About some really large number of HE models on sale, for just a steal. The guy was selling them just as a whole package, but I would only need very few of the minis offered.

He said he didn't need them either unless someone forced a 10000 Points match to the death on him.

So, I was starting to work on a list to see how much in painted greenskins I could field… I came to slightly less than 9000 Points, without Special characters, but with 3 Lord choices, 12 hero choices… So my target is to find and paint the missing 1000 Points soon.

I've been reducing my pile of shame a bit lately.
I put some color on my O&G minis. Also bought a Vampire Army for cheap.

That is quite the Undead host you have going there. You've got the best skeletons GW ever made with the armour and halberds backed up by the really cool grave guard. That train of Black Knights is very impressive

Also very cool. Mangler Squig there.

I would like to echo this. Very impressive indeed.

Thanks, I was trying to get my hands on this army for a long time. The guy who introduced me to Warhammer back in the day painted that Vampire Army, which was significantly larger, as it also included a Zombie Dragon, a Winged Nightmare, some Zombies, Spectres, Fell Bats, quite all kind of units the Army book consisted of back in 6th, except for a Black Coach. One unit of Black Knights was built from single parts as he wanted them to look really well armored, not like skinny skeletons on skinny horses. Ah yes. if I remember correctly, one of the models costed him around 35 DM, ca.17EUR/20 Dollars.
One day he sold the whole lot to our LFGS, which used the army as a showpiece in the window. That was about 20 years ago, and they sold of some of the units over time.
I was there last month to stack up my inventory, namely black primer spray, and the owner told me that he us selling off all his fantasy stuff, probably on ebay. But as I am a long time customer, he offered me to buy the whole remains of the army for 200 EUR.

Couldnt say no to that offer!

Ah no, bit of a misunderstanding here, I paid 200 EUR. I just wanted to say that back on the day my buddy paid for one single of these custom Black Knights around 35 DM, when he bought the single bits from mailorder. So 35 DM for each of the15 models, that is already more than I paid in EUR now.

My Monoposaz Spearmen are advancing slowly, but steadily. I couldnt resist to set them up in formation with the rest of rhe bunch.
Base colors check, next steps are shields, details and restoration of rhe old models in the pack, so they look relatively alike color-wise too.

And the corresponding shields got also a basic color paint. Unfortuantely, I found only 17 of them, anyone got 3 to spare?

I made the rules for the campaign myself, including rules for all special characters ( Eltharion, Grom and Blacktoof) so it was no problem, even if it's not in the core rules.

Eltharion, Korhil and Teclis, a lone archer and some war machine crew for the High Elves.
A Highborn on Cold One Chariot and 5 Dark Riders.
Ol'Blacktoof on his Wyvern and some Squig Herders, a Starter Box Night Goblin and Spear Chuckka Crew.

Oh why thanks a lot for the kind words!

That 15 minutes with proper light and scenery at our gaming club really payed off it seems, great models from GW altogether.

Unfortunately, only the Dark Elves have seen action so far in a small tournament in October.

But I plan to get on with my Waagh!! Grom Campaign, so Ol'Blacktooth and Eltharion can cross swords/magic boomsticks

This weekend, we will play out the Battle at the River Kweiß, where 2500 points of O&G are trying to get on/over a bridge to reach Grom's main force, but the Empire has deployed an army of at least equal strength to prevent them from doing so.
Army list must contain at least 1000 points core, max. 0-1 Lord, 0-4 character models in total, 0-4 special, 0-2 rare choices.

I have lost my previous matches in the campaign, so the Empire player has some advantages. He has 3 support points, which he can use to

a) change one of the rare, special or hero slots to another one of these (for example 3 special 2 rare, and 4 hero slots or something similar ('Cost: 1 point)
b) buy an additional rare, special or hero slot (for 2 points)
c) add 175 points to the army's point limit (2 points)

These are a great base to start with Dark Elves!

For 6E, you have a Spearelves unit and the Repeater Crossbows as Core.

You could play 2 units of 5 Cold One Riders as Hammers for your Spear anvil.

The Dragon is of course not available to any hero model, so it will have to wait on the shelf until you hit 2000 points min OR you could proxy a Beastmaster riding a Manticore with it.

I also like the color scheme. It would look really good if you used some wash on it and then some good old drybrushing for highlights.
