Marks of Chaos.

Confusing things, really. I ahve a little conundrum that I was wondering if someone could sove for me:

In the Chaos codex, it states that models with the Mark of Khorne can't be in the same army as a model with the Mark of Slaanesh (Ancients Enemies, pg 38).

In the Black Legion section, "They are always free to use any options in the list. Thus units of Black Legion Bezerkers bearing the Mark of Khorne will march alongside with Black Legion Sorcerors of Tzeentch" (Black Legion, pg 44). [emphasis mine]

Does this mean I can have a Black Legion army, with Keeper of Secrets and Daemonettes, in addition to Khornate Lieutenant/Terminators?

Any help would be much appreciated, as I am trying to plan a "Combined Forces" Black Legion army - every power included somehow.

Read the ancient enemies section again. It doesn't say that Khorne and Slannesh cannot be in the same army.

The army's leader determines which marks and deamons can and cannot be used.

And yes, the Black Legion is always free to use any options in the list. However they are still subject to the restrictions on those options.

You couldn't have a Keeper and Khorne Lt in the same army (assuming only one detatchemnt), because one would have to be the leader, and the other would then become illegal. To get everything into the list, you need to have an unmarked, or Mark of Chaos Undivided leader.

@Crawling Chaos. On what rule do you base that statement? I am pretty sure that the Black Legion rule supercedes any limitation from the books of chaos.

The Black Legion don't really have any legion specific rules. If you look at the Black Legion section of the codex on page 44, the closest thing to a rule is "They are always free to use any options in the list." It doesn't say they are exempt from any restrictions.

Of course, I'm using the 1st printing of the codex, so who knows whether mine has the right rule.

Also, it says, "The Black Legion is in many ways the basis for Codex: Chaos Space Marines."  Meaning basically that the codex represents the Black Legion, so play the codex as is.  Granted, it's not a hard and fast rule, but it tells you how to play the legion.

I know this does not mean much, but my "Enemies of the Imperium" software from GW sure lets me put a bloodthirster in the same army as a siren prince.

The funny thing with Black Legion though is, the more I play them, the more I find myself using MoCU on all of my marines and characters. It is just so good for it's points.

You can't have a Bloodthirster in an army with a Slaaneshi Lieutenant, but if you drop the LT and have the demonvessel with the MCU, then you could certainly have Berserkers and Noise Marines in the same list.

Choices are determined by the General's mark. Chaos Lord, then highest cost LT, and then the demonvessel.

As Papa Nurgle said.

Also think of Black Legion as the Ultramarines of the CSM dex. They are the army the vanilla codex is based on.

Can you D.I.G. it?
