So a friend of mine is playing a against a beastmen army.... and none of us have ever played against an entire beastmen force..... which is saying something when you compare how many of us there are and not one of us plays beastmen. Anywho, I was wondering what the strengths of the list that he should avoid, and what weaknesses should he exploit? He play brettonians.... with a bunch of knights

Angron- crushing the theme and fluff of armies one horde at a time.

(Chortle)- he is going to be so much toast!

Well, if the beast player is smart he will use Kazrak, and have a bunch of his army deploy from ambush. Brettonnians are great at charging straight ahead and getting right across the table, but they are going to have to deal with a lot of units behind them. If he is not careful, he'll be hit in the flanks & rear before he can get turned around. Combat res will be his problem. I predict a lot of hard, fear-causing, non-ambushing units on the opposite side of the table, which he will have to go get; then the herds & hounds will pop out behind or on the flanks and run for rough terrain. If possible, the herds will hit the knights from the flanks or rear to pin them, and then the hard heavy stuff will charge from the front.

Weaknesses: low leadership! Kill off the unit champion and the herd tests on a 6. Low strength- the champion is S4, the regular gors & ungors are S3. Bret armor saves & blessing will be good. No shooting of any kind.

Strengths: maneuverability: Mv5 skirmish infantry that can start behind you, stay out of your charge arcs, and get a rank bonus. Numbers- he can get a lot of WS4, 2-attack infantry into base-to-base. Ungor meat-shields to soak up shooting. Most non-ambushing units are monsters, fear-causers with multiple wounds and attacks.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Well their obvious advantage is using their Ambush special rules for rear charges. They also have a great selection of strong monstrous creatures to employ like Ogres, Dragon Ogres, Shaggoths, and Minotaurs.

You have the 4 different chaos gods that can also add some flavor. Seems like Khorne and Nurgle are popular Gods for Beastmen armies.

I'm a 40k player but i've been looking at starting a fantasy army for a while and Beastmen look like a front runner (as no one i know runs an army of them and It'd make a change to my normal playing style).
I was wondering if having a Shaggoths as lord would work well. I would also give him mark of Tzeentch and he'd use lore of shadow ... basicly so could get the Steed of Shadow Power and fly 20" around the board ... hopefully getting a charge (yes i know thats evil, but i'm picking Beasts of Chaos.

Couldn't you have started this as a new thread rather than resurrecting a 2 year old thread?

Also your shaggoth plan will not work as steed of shadows only works on US 1 models....

Since the new Warriors of chaos gutted the beasts army I normally played I have gone back to the drawing board. I am planning several chariots marked with Tzentch and tzentch marked characters for a magic heavy list. With a bunch of ambushers for gunline disruption and quarter claiming.

I wonder what your view is on resurrecting a 3 year old thread?
