<h1 style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Shaggosaurus Rex </h1>

These are part of a Chaos Mortals army that I’m building.  I like to create large centerpiece type figures with extensive conversions, so an army with just a few large units is just the thing.  This particular piece is meant to represent.

http://www.bluetablepainting.com/view_gallery.php?galleryID=977

This army has been dubbed =the Chaos that Time Forgot= around the studio.

The base model is a Fiendish Tyrannosaurus, and there are elements from like four manufacturers in there:

The shoulderplates are GW Ogre gutplates with the edges shaved down.

GW Ogre ironfists for the tail, with some green stuff straps holding it on.

The wrist guards are Bane Thrall shoulderpads by Privateer Press.

The hand blades are Evil Dwarf swords from Rackham.

The chest plate is a shield from Dragonrune Draconids.

I bought three of these models for like $6.00 each on eBay.  So, quite a bit less expensive than a GW Shaggoth, but definitely a lot more time-consuming to convert and paint.  No net savings in terms of overall investment.

There were numerous problems with making this model work.  For starters, the tail is directly over the back, so I cut and adjusted that, puttying the gap.  The arms look gimpy with the little Tyrannosaur two-claw hands, so those had to go.  Also, the model is too big for a 50mm base, so I custom made a 60mm x 80mm base, just a bit smaller overall than a chariot base.

I used a Dremel carbide cutting blade on low speed to remove the arms, then a 3/32” drill to create holes to receive the sword blades (hand and all—the pommel fits in the hole and the hand is puttied over).

Painting is two layers of glaze.  The first uses Vallejo black for a darkening effect, and the second GW brown ink and Vallejo Cavalry Brown (a color I highly recommend) to give it a warm and earthy look.  There are some subtle stripes that seem to be so popular in depictions of dinosaurs these days.

Also, in terms of narrative, I couldn’t just have this dinosaur running around, so I provided a Handler (sans one hand).

As of now there is another one of these brutes all converted up and ready to get to the Spray Room for a coat of primer.

Thanks for looking!

Eric

that's a nice looking ... whatever it is. It almost looks alive. Chaos be praised.

now to quibble, I don't like the sword/hands. I realize you're somewhat limited with what you can do with such a model, but I think a dual or perhaps triple blade of somewhat smaller size would have looked better, my vision is something like a blade was attached to each of the creatures claws so it can use them naturally. as it is it looks like this beast is supposed to be a master dual weilding swordsman. somewhat of a stretch for a creature with a brain the size of a walnut.

Do not use the CLEAR dice!

Dear Whiny Space Marine Players,
you get 3+ armor saves on all your troops (save scouts), Assault cannons, a huge assortment of vehicles and weapons, arguably one of the best if not THE best tank in the game, funny helmets, and a partrige in a pear tree.

suck it up, space marines. You're the emperor's chosen superhuman warriors. stop whining like a guardsmen and take it like a superman!

I have to agree that I would have liked 2 or 3 blades on the hands, but it's not like the blade-hands as they are detract from the overall model much if at all.

That said, NICE work!  Impressive kit bashing and painting, and really the first BTP model that has really drawn me in.  In fact, took some time looking at the other BTP Chaos fantasy models - damn! All of the Nurgle armies are fantastic, and possibly the single coolest thing I saw was the bony disc of tzeentch made from 'nid parts (any more pics around??).  Very neat stuff.

Thanks for sharing, keep up the good work, and I want to see that second shagosaurus!

Thanks for the kind words, Boss.
To build onto what you're saying there... I was a BTP fan before I worked for them and FAR before I even had a BTP painted model.
I have always been a fan of how wonderfully the BTP style looks on Nurgle Models. I love the look on Nids, as well.
I like them all... but those 2 ARE my faves.

As far as extra pics... Blue Table prides itself on posting every picture taken.
Shoot, that's why (at last mentioned count), there were over 13,000 images on the site! <G>

Shawn is quite an individual in that respect. Regardless of whether an image shows the mini in its best light, or highlights each and every flaw, they all get shown.

Thanks again!

Eric

For this model:
"The base model is a Fiendish Tyrannosaurus."

As for the tundra beasts... I do not recall off-hand. I know it is said in the description of the models...

Something from the Star Wars range... A "Reek," perhaps?

That is a Rare model from the collectable D&D line... one of the sets that had the larger minis.

They can be purchased at relatively reasonable prices on eBay pretty regularly.

You can probably find them easily in the trade forum or at www.bartertown.com/trading in the fantasy section.

While I have criticised BTP in the past for paint quality and customer service - I certainly equally willing to applauding them for a job well done - I must say this is a pretty cool concept that has been nicely executed. Kudos.
