People have commented that the GW standard genestealers have backs that don't match the look of most of the other nids.  I agree, and also aren't too fond of the 'padded shoulders' extended carapace bitz that GW supply, so came up with this as an alternative:

Your thoughts?  The back is a spare carnifex head, then two bits of sprue frame cut to size, finishing with half of a standard extended carapace bit.

Looks pretty damned convincing if you ask me. Probably the best extended carapace I have seen on stealers.

The leg looks twisted though, perhaps its the angle?

Now it should have a 3+ save.

The only problem with that is that it now needs a pair of devourers to match your Dakkafex!
Looks good though, far better than the stock genestealers.

What did you make the back from? It doesn't look scratch-built. Nice conversion.

Looks pretty cool... Think we could get a few different angles?

although I dont' see how you got sprue frame to look like that.

yes it really is sprue frame - each carapace segment is only a few millimetres thick, so sprue does just fine - of course you do have to shape it carefully to fit the previous segment. Modellers with more GS skill than me would probably do the same with GS.

great now I only need 36 carinfex heads, greatly improves sprue cutting ability and approx 6 weeks to finish my genestealers.

well, the carnifex heads aren't a problem if you know anyone with a zilla army - the carny kit comes with a choice of 5 and a half heads, and they're not good for much else, so any zilla owner will have a pile in their bitz box. (Well, maybe not 36...) That's what gave me the idea of using them for something else - I have some more set aside for a possible zoanthrope conversion and some giant ripper swarms...
