I've posted a work-in-progress article detailing conversion of a 1/35 scale Tamiya Tiger I to an Imperial Guard superheavy tank.  It still looks like a Tiger with some IG bits attached, but it IS a work in progress!

Disclaimer:  I don't play WH40K, I'm primarily a modeler/painter, and not even a very good one at that! :-)

How does the size compare?

There are some size comparisons on the website that I've provided the link to.  I think it's plenty big enough, befitting a superheavy tank.

Here are a couple of images:

Are you sure about making this an SHT? It looks about the size of a land raider which would put it on the lower end. How is the size compaired to a decked out Russ?

A russ would be wider than the rhino but not significantly longer.

that looks cool, would you say 1/35 or 1/48 scale is the correct scale to use with GW

1/35 for a Tiger II. It has approximately the same dimensions as a chimera (slightly longer-see other thread). Because tanks are quite variable (early war tallboys vs. late war JS II's and king Tiger monsters which are substantially sleeker) it might be best to check the dimensions. Wikpedia has dimensions for a lot of tanks. Use those dimensions vs. a the 35/48 factor and then compare to a rhino or chimera for size.

EDIT: The correct scale is 1/48 - mistyped.

nice nice work.... I will review the 1:35 scale... maybe any smaller WWII tank (matilda, cruiser, PzIII) may be used as a good base for a imperial guard tank conversion...

the size of the tiger is more on the league of the land raider than that of the baneblade..... you don't need to set it in the super-heavy category... just give it land raider stats....

in any case... may you please review the placing of the pintle mounted storm bolter handlers... that bitz is supposed to be placed under the back of the gun, and not over it ...

Into the fire of battle we go...

I thought you picked up a 1/48 Tiger II (which would be, as you stated, comparable to a Chimera in size)? I am positive a 1/35 King Tiger would be quite a bit larger, as it is longer than the 1/35 Tiger depicted above, which dwarfs that Rhino. Methinks your having a "senior" moment, though not to worry, as at 33, I have them too...

Mind you, I'm not saying 1/35 kits can't be used for 40k, one just has to be very judicous in their use as they *are* going to be considerably larger than the 1/56-1/48 scale 40k is in.

no link just looked on ebay where they have 1/32 and 1/48 scale humvee and other tanks. mainly the T50 or something, its russion and looks like a banebalde minus the lascannons and heavy bolters.
