Subject: Razorback Twin-Linked Plasma Gun and Lascannon Conversions?

Hi folks, I'm just wondering if anyone has either: a) links to other folks Las and Plas. Razorback conversions on the web; or b) photos of their own Las and Plas Razorback conversions; that they could share with me. I've made a couple of attempts at conversiosn for this in the past, but I haven't really been happy with the results, and would like to get some inspiration from others. Thanks in advance for any help! Keith

Unless I'm missing something, the new Space Marine dex no longer has las/plas as an option for Razorbacks. Is this really something you would want to do?

I have one of the old ones; I miss being able to field it.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Hmmm... that's what I get for not playing in several months (over a year now actually). And to answer the question, yes, this is still something I would like to model anyway. I loved the combo, and who knows, maybe Forge World will come out with a kit and rules for it in the future.
Keith
P.S. Am I the only one who finds it surprising that suddenly all Space Marine armies would drop this razorback combo from their armouries? Talk about a retcon!

I just use mine as a twin linked lascannon. Sorry, don't have a picture. It is a standard old style one. CE

Fluff-wise, it does seem a little silly. Rules-wise, it makes sense, since it's a pretty useless combo under the current vehicle shooting rules.

Come again? It would work exactly the same way it worked in 3rd. Ie: goddamn awesome. Even if it can't move and shoot, two high strength AP2 shots up to 24", or three at close range, or two at close range while moving, or even just the lascannon while moving are all extremely useful.
In 3rd it was the best option without question. In 4th Razors in general took a big hit due to their non-scoring status, but the Las/Plas combo added so much firepower that I am confident you would still see them on the table. Especially in places that don't use a lot of Escalation.

A year or so before the new dex came out I had finished two scratch built Las/Plas turrets using the original guns mated to the Predator autocannon turret with a green-stuff mantlet cover and other bits. They were a blast to play and were a center piece of my mechanized marines and, as Ragnar mentions, very effective. However, I strongly dislike the v4 ruleset so I can't provide any expertise there.
As to the conversion, I did mine on the old OOP rhinos using the metal predator autocannon turret and the metal las/plas weapon bit. However, I'm not sure if these are available still, much less if you want to use the old rhino and predator bits as a base for the conversion. If I recall correctly, Migsula did a pretty cool conversion using the current Razorback kit and swapping out one lascannon for a pair of glued together plasma guns.

Good point nyarlathotep667. I would prefer to convert something that looks more like the current razorback turrets, or the turrets from forge world, preferably using current plastic plasma guns and lascannons instead of the older metal parts. Thanks! Keith

Wow beef- that's a very, very nice army! I really like your commander conversion, although I dislike the use of actual angel wings on any marine other then Sanguinius! The fusion of Dante's upper body with the emperor's champion legs camouflages the origin of the parts very nicely. I don't really dig the predator turret on your razorback though- there's really no distinction between the razorback and a predator (other then the turret sitting father back). Looking through your album was rather enjoyable- you have lots of characterful conversions. Although I'm not a big fan of that wolf's head on the end of the assault cannons your termies are carrying. It's too big for my tastes to ever be seen as a muzzle. That's just my view though. Great armies!

OH I was definitely impressed Beef. You should really keep us more up-to-date in the modeling forums as far as your progress goes- you've really done some fantastic work there- especially on that BA army.

I think I will take better pictures of the Ba army and post it bit by bit in the modelling forum, then I will do the same for the world eaters and also for my Nurgle.
