Mongoose posted new pics of the 'phase 2' minis. Look better than the first batch but still not as good as the pre-production stuff. http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24602

Huge improvements over the last set of paints. they still don't seem to hold a candle to the AT-43 minis, but that could be because the sculpting is so poor (especially in comparison!). EDIT: But don't get me wrong though- huge props to Mongoose for getting this sorted so quickly and making such large strides, but they shouldn't get cocky again and say they're the best in the industry when they so clearly aren't.

Yes. How terrible is it that "Hey, these don't suck as bad" can be considered praise.

Meh. I'm sure the rules will be tighter than Patrick Stewart's undies, but the figs are only good if you're used to D&D or clicky minis.

Mongoose can bite me. This is the exact same trite they pulled with the same tone with this as well as other product lines. Then they go on for months about how great this was supposed to be, and finally cumulate the whole " Better then 90% ...." boast. With the combination of the photo incident, the attempted snowjob with the insetion of the "New and Improved photos, and the prolonged hot air of this game, I am not only becoming more contemptuous of the " prepainted phase" then I started out. We see that crap that they tried to pass off, and THEN they come out with a "Phase 2", even before the game is off the ground. I have more then enough silly games to play then with GW, even before I get to the table. Is it not enough that I can't play a game, have to wait five or six months for it to come out, and then get the Red October rammed to me, I now get to rehash the whole uneventful matter. Less with the camera, More with the product. what will happen next is some drama about why they don't think this line will be good enough, and claim that they have one better. Caveman: Evolution. I'm still waiting for a TAC fighter. I will wait for the supposed "SST Evolution", and in the event that it is as substandard as the rest of the Mongoose line has become, will have a nice large bundle of " Prepainted" miniatures that you all can see that can be an example of things that could have been for Mongoose. Believe it or not, I actually WANTED this BF EVO game for the table top, and then I wanted to go on and try playing some of the maps from the BF2 Shooter with some of the armies on the table. I have not only given up on this one, I am leaning tword boycotting anything from Mongoose at all.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

Which reminds me of the deteriorating quality of the B5 casts. I think MG wants to do the right thing but are too blueeyed and want to do too much at once.

Mongoose rules are better written than GWs, that said they aren't perfect. SST was a good set of rules but ahd so many tweeks from on suppliment to the next that within a year they became jumbled, Im hoping that the SSTevolution cleans that up. as for minis, they ranged from nice to OMFG bad, but that seems to be the case with all their games. It looks like 2007 is going to focus on rules clean-up with a new edition of SST as well as B5-ACTA. Now if they can come to grips with the minis they could become a real competitor to GW.
As for Battlefield evolution, so far I haven't liked anything Ive seen yet, but I'm buying the rules after all there are a lot of Historical figure makes who make good figs that need a good set of rules.

What worries me is that BF-Evo (well, all the snafus associated with it) is the kind of thing that can kill a small company like Mongoose. Good rules alone does not keep a company in business.

The main problem with Mongoose is that they do too much with a limited amount of expertise and money..... which could kill them.

Man, those first pics really hurt mongoose. Kinda sad how people vowed no one would buy them even before it was released. On the whole, a huge improvement. Gald they did something about it.
